A killer on the lam takes refuge in his childhood home where his mother and widowed sister-in-law are ignorant of his criminal past.
I wish times were still like this. 😔
Me too! The women were so feminine and womanly and men were masculine. My mom was 18 in 1958 and dad was 16. They tell me how things were for them growing up and in their early adulthood and I envy them. Nowadays they're really disappointed in how things have gone. Anyway great movie.
@@audreyann1975 My parents grew up in the 50s and they got married I guess in 1962 and then I came right after. My mother said the way you see the 50s portrayed really is true. According to her it really was just like that. It was a wonderful time in most ways I suppose. I would have fit in so much more had I been born a long time ago.
@@reginakasakevics7891silent GEN parents. You are probably GEN X. surprised you go for b&w noirs.
Totally..!
Me too. Everybody needs a Johnny in their life. 😀😀😀
Worthy remake of "Shadow of a Doubt" of my five all time favourites.! Had never heard of this. Thanks again Rob, for another excellent pick.
You're welcome!
With Joseph Cotton and Theresa Wright.
I agree. Thanks Rob😊
That’s what I was thinking about as well !!
We are good
Oh I saw this movie a few months ago. It was good. Love old black and white suspenseful movies.
very good!
The Good Old days!!
Must be a remake of Shadows of a doubt.
@@Hondo0101yep!
Early film for Rod Taylor. Hadn't heard of this one Was quite good. Charles Drake acted it well. And Colleen Miller. Thanks for posting.
You're welcome!
The styles of dress in the 50’s really set off the beauty of women. It was such a lovely period!

Life is a beeaachhh ....anyway u look @ - still called the blues (by Johnny Taylor).
That's because they wore clothing that was designed for women. Now they wear pants.
They need to bring back the 1948-1963 retro
But with modern fabrics
@@davidweston9115that really went full
Since 1990
Before that year, we wore both. Skirts & pants.not tight & short neither
Really nice
Partly true, but what you see here are upper- class styles designed and tailored by Hollywood. Not true to life for many.
But you're right, too. When I was a kidlet, my mother would drag me off with her to the local dressmaker's house. Women skilled at tailoring commonly did that out of their homes. My mother would have her off-the-rack clothes fitted by the dressmaker. That's a work-from-home business opportunity to make $$ and maybe bring fitted clothes back into fashion.
This movie is virtually a remake of Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt, with Joseph Cotten, Theresa Wright, McDonald Carey, Hume Cronyn, etc. Highly recommended.
Shadow of a Doubt with Joseph Cotton was wonderful and I enjoyed this version, too. Thank you, Rob!!
Glad you liked it!

I agree. Joseph cotton was wonderful in Niagara with Marilyn Monroe. Another great actor that was very unrated.
Nothing like an old B & W Movie on a quiet Sat. Afternoon! These Movies always bring back so many memories of my childhood years! I was 8yrs old in 1958 & life was very much like the Life shown in these Films. I know everybody was ALOT more Innocent in those Days, they had Manners & everybody took care of their Mothers & Families. Sure there were Crooks & ppl you couldn't Trust & yes, there were alot of Tragedies that happened to ppl, but Nothing like what we see Today. It was just a few yrs after WWII & ppl had more Prosperity & Hope in their Hearts about the Future. It was a Wonderful time to grow up & I'm glad I experienced the Innocence of that Era!
Well said!
Nice to see Australian actor Rod Taylor in an early role
There was a series that he starred in called Hong Kong that I used to watch when I was a young girl. Gosh, I thought he was so handsome!
Bravo, Rob! This movie was made the year I was born! These movies are great, especially because of the quality..it looks like live TV on my 4K LG
Than it must have been a great year...cheers❤😅😊
@@inanymin369er The best!
I was born in 1955. A wonderful time in America. Great growing up at that time.
@@donnabaardsen5372 Back then, when the US was civilized.
Me in 56 mid century
This was filmed a year before I was born, but a lot of it reminds me of my early childhood in terms of how everything looks and how people behaved ...
I was three when it came out. Such a happy time to grow up. People and society were different then, in a heartwarming way.
Your just a year older than me - Same here in Scotland - Most people were still living their lives like their parents and Grandparents had before them - and there were shops and businesses that had been there since Victorian times - All gone now - Everything was so much more simple and straight forward and so were the people - no mobile phones ,computers and food shopping was way more simple because there was less choice - i liked back then a lot
@@williamf4544 Me too. A wonderful time to grow up.
It 👀 truly was a great time to grow up miss those days 😢
Filmed 11 years before I was born and I’m excited to watch it now ☺️
Heeerrreee's Johnny.......sorry couldn't help it. Thanks for posting Rob. I'm getting hooked on these Noir movies, got a taste for them.
Ooh that was a real good one! Thank you so much for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Seen this one but will watch it again! Good one.. ty!

It's Ms. Landers ! (the younger widow). Beaver's grammar school teacher for 5 consecutive years, after Ms. Canfield left.
Sue Randall who played Miss Landers was not in this movie.
Happy 91st Birthday Colleen Miller! Nov. 10, '23
I recently saw Colleen Miller in The Night Runner from 1957. That was a good movie too!
Rod Taylor! a fave of mine
I just looked it up. Wikipedia say's actress Jocelyn Brando (Lily) is the older sister of Marlon.
Interesting!
Great 👍movie 🎬 love ❤️ the old black and white movies thanks 😊
Glad you liked it!
Rod Taylor was a fabulous actor a killer smile. Loved him in Hing Kong series I watched 3 mths ago.
Only passed I think 3yrs ago.
Thank you ever so much. What crisp clear quality for an older film! Much appreciated!
Glad you liked it!
Ahh the old apartment buildings and cars *sigh*. I lived in San Francisco during the 60s in apartment buildings. The apartments were very much like in this movie except they weren’t brown stones. Actually, a good memory, particularly going to the Haight-Ashbury.
Living in downtown SF now and the Apts are still like that inside, except now were paying $2,900 for the tiny room😅😅 Still better than New York I think.
Right on, I was born in 1959 too. 😊 Great cinematography!
Thanks for watching!
They sure got that staircase fixed quickly! And the tradesmen were so quiet!
REALLY good, an unusual plot for that era of film. Highly recommend it, if you’re on the fence about it. 👍🏻
They made the best films from the 30s to the 60s.
Thanks. Great suspenseful movie.
How beautiful the dialogue and communication between people used to be, not taking immediate offense, listening and always putting people before personal whims
Exactly what I was thinking too, and people were so well spoken too back then.
Really enjoyed this movie! Thanks for posting!
Thanks for watching!
Thx for the share Rob❤😊
You're welcome!
It's amazing; so many comments on the first version of this movie but all everyone misspelled Joseph COTTEN'S name.
Amazzzing movies actors people remembering their good lives and movie plots without swearing ..all going going 😢 gone😢
Until 1966..
They started swearing around that year
Thank you.
Yes, I thought of #1 Classic Movies of Alfred Hitchcocks, I just love him and im still a huge fan, & his mind, and how he writes stories, and movies directs, produce, My FAVORITE MOVIE.
This is like: "A Shadow Of A Doubt", A remake, but no matter how many movies are made, yhe 1st movie is always the best, just one of the best movies ever made. This movie is not as good as the Alfred Hitchcock's, and plus Joseph Cotton played a Awesome Role as The Uncle, and The whole Cast of Alfred Hitchcock Movie is picked very well in That movie, Hello All, from South Carolina.❤️💯😳❤️
Alfred Hitchcock did this, with Joseph Cotton as the uncle and Teresa Wright as the niece. The title escapes me. 🙁
*in this version he isn't her Uncle Charlie. Here he's her brother in law, Johnny.
It was Shadow of a Doubt
I will have to check that one out too.
Shadow of a doubt
@@robertbirch5676 yes, and this version was pretty good. Usually, a remake of a classic, especially a Hitchcock film, falls flat. But this was really decent. They didn't remake it word for word, and it worked.
Exactement ! Stéphanie de la Belgique.

Awesome acting by everyone, especially Colleen Miller. What a remarkable film. Kept me interested from start to finish. Amazing though how at the end of the film the character of Helen survived a horrific car accident with just a minor injury. Helen was such a sweet woman, she deserved to live happily every after. Great film!!!!!
The beginning music tells me to watch the excitement unfold.
Shadow of a doubt is one of my favorite movies. This version was actually pretty good. I like the differences. Thanks! I had never heard of this movie.
Glad you liked it!
This feels like a made for TV version which probably had a much smaller budget…it is an entertaining but hard to be compared to Hitchcock…as of this writing, Colleen Miller (Helen) is 90 yrs old…thanks for posting
You're welcome!
The link between head injury and psychopathy is real people.
How weird, in some scenes johnny reminded me of William Hopper who played Paul Drake in the orignal Perry Mason tv series and the Johnny actor's name is Charles Drake.
Very good movie! Thanks for uploading it, Rob W.
You're very welcome!
Shadow of a Doubt was great, but, this version is good too. I just don't see why the same story was filmed twice in a short amount of time. America was much, much safer then, than now. Sad to see how our country has deteriorated. Filmed on a backlot. Look next door and see the" Leave it to Beaver" house. Rod Taylor stared in Hitchcock's'" The Birds".
Safer for whom 🤷🏽♀️ The point of this thus story is things often look better than they are. Safety is merely a matter of time and circumstance … and serious head injuries.
I really love the way they dress up very classic
Excellent movie 👍🏼
1939 is considered the best year for A movies. I'm beginning to think 1958 had the best B movies
True!
Excellent movie, thank you so much Rob
Looks like a good one by all the comments 👌
Thanks again for the upload Rob..!

You're welcome!
Good one. I had never seen this version.
i enjoyed... Step Down to Terror. 1958, a very young Australian actor Rod Taylor in Hollywood. Must have been one of his earlier movies. A bit slow in the first half but well worth watching.
He was 28, looked 5 years older, not "very young" anyway.
Thanks to Chrysler and Virgil Exner for the Beautiful Desoto, Chrysler 300, and Plymouth cars, perfectly placed with their respective characters.
I was born 1979 😅but when I started watch this movie I feel I was before in this year..and I saw and think all the abandon mansion of that year 😢
Thankyou x
You’re welcome 😊
I liked the Joseph Cotton version, but I liked this one even better.
Cotton,I thought was terrifying
This is great!
Young Rod Taylor....born in Australia...
Rod Taylor, what a hunk! He was so handsome.
These are good to see how they lived in the 30/50's
You're right!
He sure could be a stand-in for Sterling Hayden
Thanks!!
Welcome!
The very beginning of this rang so many of my bells (was such a good remake), I actually re-checked the title! 🙄 One of my all-time favorites, "Shadow of a Doubt". I was delightfully surprised that it had it's own backbone and magic. Thank you, this was a great video.
P.S. I know she's not Mrs. Olsen, but isn't Mom a coffee lady from somewhere in the late '50's, or early 60's?
Glad you liked it!
Good movie. Almost as good as the Hitchcock version "Shadow of a Doubt" with Joseph Cotton and Teresa Wright.
I like the first version.
BTW..what happen to the cat he had taken in with a band on its right leg? Why didn't he take it home to mom?
Just curious. ^••^ being a cat lover myself.
That's the same thing I was wondering about! Hopefully the poor cat wasn't left to starve at the apartment!!!😮😢
I feel sorry for the beautiful DeSoto convertible.
This was a good remake of a shadow of a doubt.
Thank You good noir
Glad you liked it!
REMAKE OF "SHADOW OF DOUBT" ...beduhhh left undone ..
brilliant thanks
You're welcome!
The world~society IS a jungle. "He who loves his life shall lose it; but he who hates his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal (John 12:25, KJV)."
Amen!! Thank you for sharing God’s Word.
Not bad for a B movie. Taylor was a treat, too, although he never got very far. TY!
"...he ever got very far." ? Really, he was a movie star who starred in many successful features, such as Hitchcock's "The Birds",
"The V.I.P.s", "Sunday in New York", "The Time Machine" and many, many more. Educate yourself before you post an ignorant comment.
07:20 I bet that young man was so excited to tell his parents that he had several lines in a film. And then he found out that all of them would be spoken with his back to the camera. What a shame.
Great comment!, nice observation.
😂
This is Beaver's street ! Beaver's new house is to the right of "Mom's" house in this film, but this was filmed in '58 before the Beave moved into that new house and in this film it has a more fancy facade which would be removed before Beaver moved in. At 1:13:30 watch the Desoto back in to Beaver's driveway, and then drive along the sidewalk where Beave and Wally walk home from school. All the other houses and foliage are the same.
Moral: Even someone you thought you knew very well can be a monster, unbeknownst.
This reminds me so much of shadow of a doubt
It's a remake of the Hitchcock classic
Rob = the best!
Thanks!
Great movie, thank you! 😊
Thank you too!
Good, close enough remake, of 'Shadow Of A Doubt'!!! Not quite as great, but worthy. They did change up, the story somewhat, but it fits in.
Johnny was correct 'bout one thing, though. The world IS, a horrible place, and people like her (Helen), really had no idea, what the world is really like.
OMG, I was so relieved at 1:11:00 what a rollercoaster. Whew.
Ha! The docking area depicted @5:00 is the same location where George Nader escapes the bad guy @42:00 in Appointment With a Shadow filmed the year prior..
Keen observation.
I like the Joseph Cotton version much better, but this was good.
It was better than the original.
This movie has so much characteristics as did Shadow of a doubt the 1939 movie with director Alfred Hitchcock. I really enjoyed this movie. Thanks Rob
Shadow of a doubt was one of Hitchcock's favourite films but this had a more believable female role of sister-in-law than the hard to accept hero worshipping niece of his version.
Well this was suspense at it's best, great flick , i love b movies 👌👌🐈⬛️🐈⬛️
You and me both!
this redone of the crime drama movie with Joseph cotton and Teresa Wright Shadow of a doubt
loved the house
Great movie 😊
Good version of the original Hitchcock classic.
43:32 What a cheesy plot. All Colleen Miller had to do was go over next door and take a look at their neighbors' newspaper LOL !
Besides, why did she have to telegraph all her moves to the killer ? Why not just play dumb and sic the cops on him first chance she got ?
Nitpicking.
It's not nitpicking! Reynaldo is right! 🤔
Another point! The worst place to hide when you are wanted by the law is with your close relatives! That's the first place the police come looking for you!!!
@@StanZ-i6w. I’m in the UK. Used to work in the law enforcement field. When a prisoner escaped, the first place we went looking for him was his mother’s house. 😂

Does anyone here drink warm milk even at bed time? I don’t care for milk as an adult. I cannot imagine drinking it warm. I see it so often in older movies. Just curious.
Maybe it had a shot of brandy in the milk
@@missylovestroy 😂😂
Better warm than cold.
They fixed that step so soon?
When I was little my mother would give me warm milk with my cereal. I got so use to it that I can't have cold milk. Now at 38 I can only drink skin milk but still have to have it warm😅
38:56 the style you just can’t beat it.
Has anybody else noticed that in British films and American films of a certain era, the hero is always called Johnny and the villain is always called Tommy. Or vice versa. Haha.
Johnny should have stayed away from his hometown. 😄😄😄
They don’t lock their doors in those days - which is scary if you don’t lock your doors nowadays
It is OK if you do not know Hitchcocks original version but sorry - the original is a masterpiece in every way: actors, setting, music, direction, camera - besides I prefer womens hair in the 40ies.
I guess the Ward Cleaver family was inside their house (11 minutes into the film). Also I was 71/2 when this was filmed.
great movie
The sister in law is smart.
Beautiful woman love her clothes especially at the end 😍 thats a sleek classy woman but my god was she stupid 😂like girl why u drink the milk and why didn't u turn him in sooner 😂😮thanks again ❤
