I use Daz for models in oil painting. No scene, no Props and No clothes! All I need to do is move the sun! This is very informative! Hope you make a million!
Thanks for your kind comment and sharing how you use Daz Studio for oil painting. I watched your slideshow video of your work on your UA-cam channel and your artwork would work really well on Instagram or Pinterest. There are lots of people who want to learn how to do oil painting and you could teach them or be willing to purchase your oil paintings.
@@ParmyBaddhan Now, I move the distant light to where I need it but, I see no light or shadow. I've worked with AutoCad, Photoshop, Illustrator and currently Inkscape so I know that when I'm done to hit enter to see my results. Why can't I do that in 4.12 Pro? I see nothing!
Thanks for your kind comment. I don't recommend distant lights for Iray rendering due to lack of control over the lighting. Instead use a spotlight to get better results.
Thanks for this I learnt more in 12 minutes than I have in a week of experimenting on my own. If you don't want really harsh shadow in your scene just adjust ground shadow intesity in the enviroment tab of render settings.
This is a really helpful tutorial, except that you CAN move the Distant light. Use the Distant Light to view the scene (instead of Camera or Perspective View) and using the cube and associated controls to navigate the Distant Light around. Also, you could point out that there is another way of making a new light - instead of using the menu system ("Create New..." ) they can click the relevant icon above the viewport area to make a new Distant Light or new Spotlight. I have found your tutorials very useful! Thanks!
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment and sharing your findings. This video was one of my very first videos that discussed the lighting options inside Daz Studio. As a Daz Studio noob I didn't have the knowledge that I have now. This video is actually redundant now because distant lights are not the best lighting option when rendering with Iray. To do this day I have never used distant lights in any of my renders.
@@pks_90 It's rendering fast in the tutorial because the there is nothing else in the scene. Just the figure and clothing. When you start to add other props such as buildings and extra figures then it takes a while for the iray preview to appear.
I highly recommend you don't use distant lights as there is not enough control with distant lights and you will get much better results with HDRI maps, spotlights or Sun/Sky for lighting.

@@MAC-ws8fz Are you using the Iray Render engine or 3delight render engine?
Great tips....Excellent video....

Thanks for this tutorial :) Today is my day off, so I will learn and watch a couple more :)
You're welcome. Binge watching my tutorials on your day off, I'm flattered.
I'm a comics artist and that kind of strong lighting is just what I need! Thanks!
I wouldn't use distant lights with Iray. You'd be better off using spotlight, emissive or iray sun/sky lighting.

Thanks for mentioning this I forgot to add this to the video.

You're welcome! However distant lights are rarely used and I would focus on spotlights, pointlights and emissive lights.
Very nice job!
Thanks for you kind comments. If you require anymore help with lighting in Daz Studio please let me know in the comments. I reply to every comment.
Which GPU you Have ?

@@pks_90 I did not see this as expensive. It was an investment because I was serious about this, so that I could create my awesome comics.
