Dont know about 'legends', dont think it's been around long enough to qualify for that......I've never met a legend ....to my knowledge......we just have a job to do and we do it.....I'd like to think if I couldnt do it......someone else would.....just so happens I can swim......so I'll help someone who cant....RNLI are there to supply the boats and hardware.....they got quite good at it too.....

That's very true....the RNLI is there to assist sailors in trouble and save lives at sea....there are no costs involved to those we help or fish out of the drink....so any body can call for help and know it's on it's way.. WITHOUT having to worry about the cost.....we do it because we would like to think if any of us were stuck out there and needed help....somebody would do the same for us.

INFO on this: The boy, Michael Lally from the Wirral, was on holiday in Porthcawl with his family when he was swept out from Trecco Bay as an offshore wind blew his dinghy out to sea. His step father tried in vain to swim to his rescue but the dinghy was being blown too fast for him to catch. Fortunately the incident was watched by other people on the beach who quickly dialled 999. Swansea Coastguard paged Porthcawl RNLI volunteer lifeboat crew for an immediate launch. The Wales Air Ambulance was also diverted to attend the incident together with land based paramedics and Porthcawl Coastguard Unit.

Cannot understand how a lonely boy was swept out to sea and there was not a single soul on the land. The person or persons , who phoned the rescue team should have followed him on the land and I am sure other people would have been present. Then perhaps someone had a pair of good binoculars and saw the boy in distress from a long distance from which the boat was launched, but I do doubt it. I must admit I do not fully understand !
