The gilded age families were very strict about who fraternized with who. Infact, in real life Alice and Cornelius Vanderbuilt cut their son Neiley almost entirely from their will when he married Grace because she was not as old money as they were. And she was white. Alice also blamed Neiley for Conelius’s stroke when he announced his engagement to Grace.

Don't bother. The script is atrocious, the acting is wooden and the casting directors have so completely surrendered to 21st century wokeness that we are asked to believe there were black, female Medical Examiners in 1895, that black people were invited to society balls given by Old Money families, and that Vanderbilt family members could have romances with black men - all this, without any of the characters raising an eyebrow. No doubt in a better world than ours that could happen, but not in 19th century America, and certainly not without somebody within the story remarking upon it.

Thank you for the heads up. Have to admit I didn't expect any different.
Was watching a film the other month and in one scene they were matching for their rights to go into a white only cafe in the 1950s, while in the next scene she went off to a upper class party to rub shoulders with elite society.
      Utterly bonkers.
