Literally my dog. Ignoring them until they calm down is the best thing. Problem is that sometimes people are so excited about the dog that they don't listen to directions to help train them well. Therefore, making worse for dog training.
Great video man. You should have more views.

Yes, that is a common problem. All you can do is keep trying to get people to understand how important it is for them to respect your wishes and ignore your dog until you tell them it's ok. don't give up!

This is so true. Harder to train people than dogs. Especially dog lovers, who come in with the high pitched greetings to the pup. They're the toughest! Lol.

Good work. Results without punishment or treats😊 A Cesar fan here too.
I love how you explained to them clearly everything you were doing and why, and what the owner needed to do. Well said. 😊
I personally would use a leash ( for control and direction) and my body language with no words or sounds.
I would also give the dog direction right away like going to the mat for place.
The pup didn't know what to do or where to go from the beginning jumping from sofa to sofa.
I preteach 'Place' when visitors coming.
And/ or put them behind a gate in the kitchen when people come to the door ( it saves people from being jumped on while they are learning calm and self control ).
Have the owners come in- no talk, touch, Eye contact and sit down calmly. When the dog settles down, I mean really calm, then I may bring the out on a leash ( while in training mode) to make sure I keep control.
Owners and visitors can't control themselves with a puppy. Too excited.
I tell them, if they can't control themselves how can you expect the puppy to control themselves.

In this video you show some of what is right and other things that I question. The right thing to do is to limit the dog's space by means of space management. But it doesn't have the desired reaction, for two reasons: the hissing is unnecessary, by no means dog-like communication, and stresses this dog instead of driving it down. Why not the establishment of a place signal? The dog is only told what to leave and not what to do instead. This is a little counterproductive because it diminishes success. More productive would be: Room management, as you have already shown, a house line in parallel, dog is allowed to go to the door under control, gets its chewing bone (chewing calms down), is sent to the ceiling with it (ceiling training), and after a few minutes, when everyone is seated, is allowed greet him calmly and without fuss. But what is most important: the dog owner should ask herself why she has no way of addressing the dog, and that is exactly what has to be conveyed to her. She missed important time frames in her upbringing, misconduct is established, and it is much more difficult to redirect this by means of structure in puberty than to convey the right structure to the puppy straight away.

At last a video where the trainer doesn't use a shedload of food rewards for absolutely every issue! I have a small young dog who is lovely, but needs some training for certain issues including over-excitement around people outside/within my home. He knows when there are treats within a mile (!) so in my hand or pocket or on a work top makes him even worse and defeats the whole purpose - he simply jumps up to try to get them and that's what I'm trying to stop. It's difficult to find videos/local trainers where food is not universally used and of course they will argue that if you're not doing it their way, then you're doing it wrong and it's your fault! So thank you for this! Much appreciated.

      Hi Jo
I’m so glad that you got some benefit from my videos. Well you are correct I rarely ever use treats. But Jo, that’s because the few of us who who believe I this way of working with dogs and their owners, and we also , if I’m honest Jo believe it is the correct way , do not use treats often and believe it’s the right way because it’s not our way Jo. It’s the way of the dog. The way I train is so effective and makes sense to me because I’m just communicating with dogs the WSU they communicate with each other, in their language using psychology of the dog not of the human. It’s the only way that makes sense to me after years of studying and. Working with dogs so Jo, your problems will be resolved only when you affect the brain in a manner that calms it permanently. And that’s done by learning how to become a pack leader for your dog, with gives you your dog’s trust and respect. And makes you now represent a protector yo your dog as well S a loving friend. If your dog believed he is loved and also protected and safe in life, he lives life calmly instead of anxiously. And once he lived in that state of mind and gives you his respect, whatever you say can be received by his brain and calmly executed I good obedient behavior for his pack leader. That’s the key , not treats, not tricks or obedience commands, and not human emotional thinking and psychology. And of course, the most important thing to remember, you can only achieve this with calm confident energy. There’s just no way around that. Thank you Jo. And I hope this was helpful .

Thank you for reaching out and for watching my videos?
To answer your question, I have a video called “3 Steps To A Well Behaved Dog” that you can purchase on line. It’s about how to be a pack leader and get respect from your dog. It’s inexpensive and 20 min long. And I believe it’s easy to learn from.
Also any of Cesar Millan’s books or videos of course are all about pack leadership. Also, not sure where you live, but I’m in Chicago. There is no substitute for working with me personally to become a true pack leader. But I really believe my video will be useful to you!

Thank you for your response. I did use rewards to encourage response to recall and now that he can be off the lead in a very safe environment where he can get some of his energy out, he loves it, and I'm delighted that he will respond to my whistle at once for which sometimes I give him a reward but not always. He's so busy enjoying racing about, though, that he isn't too bothered about the food! I don't object to food rewards as such, it's just that he is so focussed on it that I cannot use it in a closed environment such as indoors where he can smell it! I would like to work more on the pack leader idea but am not in the USA and I have to admit that as an older person, my patience sometimes runs out quicker than I would like and my previous dogs seemed to train much more quickly but weren't quite so hyper. However, they all know how to 'press all your buttons' and it is easy to get quickly tired and rattled. I shall watch more of your videos. Best Wishes and thanks!

I continue to thank and appreciate everyone viewing my videos, and your commend questions. I work many figs every day and a every week. But I try to reply to each question or comment I possibly can as soon as I can.
Let me remind everyone that our Energy is the most important aspect of our relationships with dogs. There is only one chance of having a calm and well mannered dog and that is by representing a source of Calm and confident energy as their pack Leaders in life. Nothing is effective without it.
And please also remember that it takes time to develop true calm confident energy in a world that is fast paced and hectic and full of pressures. Watch my videos and learn and enjoy. But do not be u set the impression that you will be so effective at it right away without taking and allowing yourselves to get better and better at it with consistent practice. Thank you all!

wow that is a calm dog compared to my 9 month old black lab, my dog literally tries to run thru the door when someone comes over to visit, it's a huge problem now he literally loses his mind. I did socialize him with other dogs and people when he was 2-6 months but to no avail it's as if he has never seen another human before, he goes BONKERS , jumping, scratching, barking in a crazy voice, doing flips, and trying to go thru the door. We are working through this with our young pit mix. It takes time but it can get better. #1 Ignore the dog when you come home, or let him out of the crate, don’t talk to him, don’t pet him, don’t even look at him for a few minutes. #2 Put a leash on the dog when people come over and stand on it so he can’t jump on visitors. Tell your visitors to ignore the dog. Only give affection when he’s calm. #3 practice impulse control with games like wait at the door until released, place and stay slowly increasing stay time and It’s Yer Choice. IMO dog language is not shushes but body language. Blocking with your body is a powerful tool as shown in this video. You can do it!

Your dog must submit to your authority. I like this word better than dominance because it’s a super charged word in the dog training world. Teaching manners is definitely the means to overcome the anxiety and excitement that dogs feel when a new person comes to the house. It’s confusing for owners who really don’t understand WHY their dog is going ballistic, but with clear, consistent practice of the right energy the owner will get it. I also think the coaxing sound the owner is making may be inciting the dog to excitement. Better to not make that noise. Great tips here.

Please remember that I always stress that Trying to implement this method that made sense to you from my videos is wonderful and a great first step. But just understand that to apply these ideas and techniques effectively it takes time and practice, and you will be making mistakes that are normal and common when learning any new skill or craft. The best way to have success in modifying your dogs behavior is with an experienced professional helping you correct little mistakes as well as reinforce what you naturally are doing well to get better and better .while you are née at something you can’t give off as confident an energy ax when you have done it for some time and as you practice you will get more and more confident each day. Then your dog will fed it and begin to consistently respond. Keep going forward !

Of course, all dogs are wonderful, according to their owners. Yeah, 2:25 is what happens to me with 100% of dog houses. I know of no dogs that are trained for restraint. I don't want to have to "ignore" the dogs. Check out "airplane movie dog scene" for a perfect reference. I'm willing to train other people's dogs in this way if that is how I can sit down on a sofa without being assaulted.

      Hello
I appreciate your response and I’d like to understand your point. What exactly did you not like about what I did with this dog in this video? And let me get this straight? Your solution for any dog that is hyperactive around people is to leash the dog ? So everyone should have to walk around with their dog on a leash anytime they have visitors over for the rest of their lives ? I’m sorry but that just doesn’t make sense to me when , as I demonstrated in the video, a dog can be taught how to behave calmly with good manners around people , precisely so it doesn’t have to be restrained all it’s life .
But thanks for watching and fit your opinion. It is always appreciated

    • @johanna8206
      @johanna8206 Рік тому

Yawning is a sign of stress in a dog. As others have mentioned, some of this approach is unnecessarily confusing/stressful for the dog because it doesn't clearly tell the dog what it should be doing. Proactively teaching the dog to go to "place" and giving them an alternative activity (bone or kong) would be a lot less stressful because it adds clarity for the dog of what we DO want them to do and then rewards them for it. A leash in this situation would also help, since having to constantly walk around and try to herd the dog over to the designated "place" is also stressful (for the dog and people). Its an awful lot for the dog to have to process while they're already over the top excited about company IMO.

      Hi there
I have found that the majority of the negative responses I have received from my videos, which are fortunately very few, they mostly seem to be from Cesar Milan haters.
That’s fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion about him or about me and who’s the boss dog training.
But you mock me without posing an alternative to my approach. And you do t even specify what it is that I did that you disagree with.
If you have a better or more effective method I’d love to see a video of you dealing with a hyperactive dog in a hone with a family such as this . If your video shows that you are more effective than what I demonstrate I. My video. I have no problem acknowledging that and giving you proper appreciation and credit.

What i would try, i would try to get the dogs attention, by calling its name or even with a treat.
Because when you got the full attention you can work with any dog.
