Wow, you just blew my fucking mind. I have never heard of that song until your comment. Just looked it up. What an amazing reference for music and a fun little easter egg.
I was watching that new Mike Myers series “The Pentaverate” and they played the Teddy Bear’s Picnic at one point which I had never heard before but it immediately reminded me of Banjo-Kazooie so I did some research and ended up here! 😂
Well go figure. I just downloaded the older version yesterday and now this one's out. Still this one does sound notably better. You keep doing your awesome thing man!
TheSinglePlayer Thanks man! Admittedly my original version used the CD version of the normal music, the aquatic was a bad quality rip, and the rest I recorded with line-in, then amplifying each track to the highest point before clipping. Those were all really really terrible mistakes. This time they were all ripped from the USFs as a 48000hz 32-bit WAV and now not amplifying anything, then exported as WAV. Hopefully everyone's ears will be pleased.
MoldyPond Rest assured that my ears are very pleased with everything you've done. I am always exited to see (or I suppose hear) anything that you've done.
Grant Kirkhope sampling Teddy Bear's Picnic in this song is legit the best sample of all time. It gives such a fairy tale/childhood vibe that's unbeatable. And Grunty's laugh just being the same sound but repeated with reverb is so good. It reminds me of the Boos in Mario 64.
I’ve thought about this for a rareware gamer’s lifetime and this is Grant Kirkhope’s best composition of all in my eyes (ears). You gotta understand; I grew up with DK64 and Goldeneye, both of which I have nostalgic and objective favorings toward, but... this one just wins, dude. It’s such a strong, catchy, brilliant, shiftable, perfect theme.
@JRyanC_ Yeah, this is a song that shares basic melodic structure at certain points, it definitely doesn’t take away Grant’s originality and ability to recontextualize the song for 10 different settings and also then transpose it into a final boss theme of its own and then also, he has the ability to shred said song on guitar where most composers don’t even perform their own songs. This is like one person throwing some beef on a bun vs The most gourmet burger meal ever made at a 5 star restaurant.

As the clever Alex Yard has put it, this song is such a dynamic tune to listen to... The different variations only enhance mysteriousness of it. Plus, with the addition of the tritone substitution during that bassoon section start at 1:00 (The colourful chords at 1:04 and 1:09) only makes the theme so catchy... Almost as if there is a clandestine element to travelling through Grunty's Lair.
I know the Banjo soundtrack and DK64 sound fairly similar, but I always picture the Kongs as the band playing the Banjo soundtrack with their instruments.

Nice job using the best version of each clankers cavern, bubblegloop swamp, and gobis valley, even though for bubblegloop swamp it's the picture instead of the entrance room.
