Also, do you really think that they would have recast Aladdin‘s genie if Robin Williams had not killed himself from depression? They know they could never recast him, how could they not? If Robin Williams was not dead, he would’ve been in this movie. In all likelihood, this recast only happened because it had to.

It was a shot at Katzenberg over what happened with Fernguly, where Katzenberg tried to sabotage production of that film because Williams didn't sign out of it after signing up for Aladdin. It also had to do with Disney using his character in a lot of promotional material when they promised not to use him in more than 25% of the marketing.

Robin was already a legend way before he voiced the genie. Popeye, Mork & Mindy, Good Morning Vietnam, all of his stand up career, Hook, and many other movies had already established his exceptional talent. Robin didn't need the genie for recognition. The genie needed Robin to stick out from the crowd.
