To MY way of thinking, it's about "sustained greatness", "leadership", and a level of transcendent play that elevates an athlete to the point where even the most casual of fans recognizes that athlete's on the field accomplishments. It's the "Hall of Fame", not the, "Hall of very, very good." Jack Johnson, Joe Louis, Muhammad Ali, Larry Holmes, Marvin Hagler, Hank Aaron, Bob Gibson, Reggie Jackson, Derek Jeter, Bill Russell, Julius Erving, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Michael Jordan, Jerry Rice, Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Jimmy Johnson, Charles Haley, Deion Sanders.............ALL examples of athletes where you do not even have to think or debate about it.
Melo is a hall of famer. He won in college, the Olympics 3x and was a bonafide star in the NBA. Just didn't win that much in the NBA but it's not the NBA HOF, its basketball overall. Hes done great things in that sport.
His medal count via Olympics will get him in for sure. I think there should be a basketball hall of fame, then a NBA hall of fame. Anyone from High School to overseas could get into the normal hall. Then the NBA should be super strict in their hall.
Should Laimbeer be in the Hall? He isn't but was an integral part of 2 championship teams. I don't like Laimbeer, but you could argue his career was as good or better than guys like Mullin and Webber. Moreover, the NBA needs its own HOF. The basketball HOF can include college, olympics, biddy ball, WNBA, etc.
I'm absolutely with Rob on this one. There's too many guys in the basketball HOF that literally were never superstar or transcendent caliber players at ANY point in there career. The fact that Rudy T would actually argue that Robert Horry should be in should strongly indicate how low the standard is becoming for who they let in. With all that said, I do think Melo is a HOF. 1st ballet even. 10X all-star, Gold medal winner, career 23 PPG scorer, #10 all-time scorer. He's totally a HOF.
I think Melo enters for his accomplishments out side thr NBA. NCAA title and multiple Gold medalist. Of course top 10 scorer all time helps also. But it's not just scoring for Melo.
Webber is much more deserving of the HOF than Bosh, Melo, etc. Webber was the #1 on an iconic college team and was the #1 on a team that would have won the title if not literally for rigged games/cheating refs.
Prime Webber was better than prime Melo tho. I know people will disagree because they never saw him play in his prime but that’s the truth. Whoever he went his team were successful.
I grew up watching Webber in his prime especially in Washington and Sacramento and I tell you he was a monster. Melo never played no damn defense in his day.
The NBA should have its own Hall of Fame. Take the 35th, 50th and 75th anniversary lists and open up a museum. Induction ceremonies maybe every 5 or 10 years at the most. That would probably be one of the most exclusive halls in sports.
Robb Parker makes an excellent point. The NBA HOF is watered down. For some reason, the HOF committee feels compelled to induct someone every year that's leading to the HOF being watered down. Chris Webber, Chris Bosh etc were good NBA players. Are they HOF worthy? Not in my opinion. The HOF in all the major sports are becoming the mutual admiration society, not a honor for the best of the best.
Rob is simply cold-blooded when it comes to his critique of athletes. Winning championships is the only thing that matters to Rob. If you don’t win, you’re not Hall of Fame worthy, no matter the sport.
If it was just the NBA HOF to me a guy like Melo shouldn't make it. But...as it is the basketball HOF it's a no brainer. College national championship, 10 time all star 6 time all NBA, 3 Olympic Gold Medals, a Scoring title career 23 ppg.
Based on what you typed, if you removed Melo’s college and international play, Melo would still qualify for a NBA Hall of Fame. There is not many NBA players in history with 10 All-Star and 6 All-NBA selections plus a scoring title and a 23 points-per-game career average. He has an All-Rookie selection too.
If you put Tracey McGrady in the HOF, you've got to put Melo in the HOF. More so Melo at least he won a National Championship in college. A lot of the guys mentioned don't belong in the HOF.
I'm sorry McGrady and Webber were better than Melo. Both had more positive effect on their teams. McGrady was a great on ball defender and better scorer in his prime. Also more clutch. Webber just better and great passer
I love melo but idk if he better than Tracy if Tracy didnt have the injuries he would probably have better or very similar stats both hof of fame tho if you ask me
I think it is the most important stat. It is important because all star appearances symbolize your prime. If you have 7 or 8 all star appearances that means you were good or great for almost a decade.
@@jamal4717 Exactly… they half too remember HOF is a individual award that tells you how great a player was no matter the team success, Like T Mac was Kobe without the Shaq basically, People use to say all the time if you put T Mac on Lakers and Kobe on the Magic, then it would be T Mac with 5 rings and Kobe with 0 probably
I think another knock against Melo besides his playoff futility. Is the Jeremy Lin conflict in New York. Fans of Jeremy Lin and some casual NBA fans are convinced, Melo internationally sabotaged Jeremy Lin career in New York out of jealousy after Lin had a hot 2 weeks of basketball which did ignite the city of New York. Once Lin came crashing back to earth during the Miami Heat game which did coincide with the return of Melo from injury. Melo was blamed for it. Once Lin decided to sign with Houston, Carmelo Anthony was the target for so much out right slander and hate from fans which I believe played a role in his brief stint in Houston under Mike D'Antoni who also coached Melo in New York during Linsanity. If Portland didn't give Melo a shot. I doubt Melo would be in the NBA right now. Having said all that. Jeremy Lin had plenty of chances to prove that he wasn't a flash in the pan after leaving New York. But for various reasons, Lin hasn't been able to recapture that magic he had briefly in New York with or without Carmelo Anthony.
Man...that would rule out a lot of players though lol. Wilt's record is 2-4 and Jerry West is 1-8. I don't think Oscar Robertson went to 5 Finals. Olajuwon only appeared in 3.
If Melo even has ONE big game in the finals and they end up winning it'll enhance his legacy, what are you guys talking about.. look at Ray allen look at rondo look at kyrie. Kyrie is known for being clutch because of one shot, that s all it takes. If you show up when it matters most it'll change your legacy
Kyrie had so many clutch shots and was known for it before LeBron. Non Cavs wouldn't know, but his nickname was Mr. 4th quarter. But yea the shot put him on the national map
Some of you guys commenting don’t seem to understand one important point. It’s NOT the “Naismith NBA Hall of Fame.” It’s the “Naismith BASKETBALL Hall of Fame.” That’s why international players (e.g., Oscar Schmidt) who never played a minute in the NBA are in as well as guys who had great college careers but who may have come up short in the pros due to injuries (e.g., Bill Walton, Ralph Sampson, and Grant Hill). Melo will get into the Hall of Fame because of his accomplishments and accolades on all three levels - college, pro, and international (Olympic) play. He deserves to be in the Hall of Fame because he was successful on all three levels. Even without the college and Olympic accolades, he’s still the tenth leading scorer in NBA history.
I wonder how long Chris is gonna deal with Rob on this show. I get that their friends, but at some point, you gotta have someone on who can actually debate basketball and not use their personal feelings
I completely agree with Rob about the Hall of Fame. T-Mac has no business being in the Hall of Fame. Melo doesn't belong in there either. However Chris Weber does belong in the Hall of Fame. He was a great player until he got injured. Even other Hall of famers believe he deserves to be in
I can see why a few of those people they mentioned wouldn't be in there. I think All NBA selections need to be taken into account when selecting Hall of Fame if it isn't already.
It's the basketball HOF. Not the NBA HOF. It's about the collective body of work of a player. Melo is 10th all time leading scorer, has a few olympic medals and a collegent championship. IMO that qualifies him. Respect!
C. Webb MOST definitely deserves to be in the HOF. They & whomever else disagrees with that, doesn't know basketball. Despite C. Webb's injuries all of his career stats are higher than Dirk's, Dunkin's & KG's Not just 1 stat. Every MAJOR stat. Scoring, Reb, Assists, Blocks, & Steals. Don't believe me, l👀k it up. The only thing that separates him from the 3 is a RING. & If you are a TRUE FAN of the game, then you know 2005 was his title & MVP of the finals year. HANDS DOWN!! Not even up for discussion nor debate. They were cheated the whole series against the LAKERS, but still would've ended it in 6, if not for the MOST OBVIOUS CHEATING IN A PRO SPORTS GAME IN HISTORY. When Webber was healthy, neither of those 3 could fk with Webber. The only person that could isn't even in the HOF, & that's Rasheed Wallace. & that's FACTS!! How do these clowns get these jobs not knowing anything, other than favoritism towards players. FOH!

To me in my HOF criteria Melo shouldn’t be there like T-Mac, VC, Hill and other couple guys.
You just need to be popular to be inducted.
@@billwill2693 Winning 1 olympic gold medal against Team USA is harder than winning 3 with Team USA.
Rob is right on this one. Only legends should be in the HOF
I don't follow basketball 'like that' but the axiom that I always heard growing up (and that I fully agree with) RE: the Hall of Fame of anything is, "If you have to debate, think, waffle, discuss, or go 'back and forth' about it, then the person should NOT be in the Hall of Fame." To MY way of thinking, it's about "sustained greatness", "leadership", and a level of transcendent play that elevates an athlete to the point where even the most casual of fans recognizes that athlete's on the field accomplishments. It's the "Hall of Fame", not the, "Hall of very, very good."
Jack Johnson, Joe Louis, Muhammad Ali, Larry Holmes, Marvin Hagler, Hank Aaron, Bob Gibson, Reggie Jackson, Derek Jeter, Bill Russell, Julius Erving, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Michael Jordan, Jerry Rice, Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Jimmy Johnson, Charles Haley, Deion Sanders.............ALL examples of athletes where you do not even have to think or debate about it.
I think Melo was a role player his entire career, but his role was to score which is the most looked at individual stat.
Melo is a hall of famer. He won in college, the Olympics 3x and was a bonafide star in the NBA. Just didn't win that much in the NBA but it's not the NBA HOF, its basketball overall. Hes done great things in that sport.
Rob is spot on here.
Tmac, grant hill, chris Mullins, and c webber are in the hall of fame so melo deserves it. Flat out
He don’t
@@AuburnFanSince2010 what you smoking he was definitely a top 3 SG in his prime.
I don’t think he should be in the HOF tho.
@@AuburnFanSince2010 He was top five fool.
@Lloyd Bonafide and that lasted how long? Like 3 years. Tmac didn’t dominate long enough to ever be mentioned with the greats
Carmelo has Gold Medals and a NCAA championship
His medal count via Olympics will get him in for sure. I think there should be a basketball hall of fame, then a NBA hall of fame. Anyone from High School to overseas could get into the normal hall. Then the NBA should be super strict in their hall.
I agree 100%....the NBA needs their own just like the NFL.
Laimbeer is probably in, if not for his reputation.
Hell, Bill Walton has been making noise about getting Danny Ainge in. I mean it's great to appreciate your teammates, but enough.
I think Melo enters for his accomplishments out side thr NBA. NCAA title and multiple Gold medalist. Of course top 10 scorer all time helps also. But it's not just scoring for Melo.
Even with NCAA not counting Allstar appearances and all NBA teams way heavily into someone being named into the HOF
10x All Star 6x All NBA NBA Scoring Champ
Add all that up & what do you have ? A FBHOF. He doesnt need NCAA or Olympics to get in
Webber I love to death. Since the Fab Five dayz. He had HOF talent but not the career.
Webber is much more deserving of the HOF than Bosh, Melo, etc. Webber was the #1 on an iconic college team and was the #1 on a team that would have won the title if not literally for rigged games/cheating refs.
Changed the power forward position (point forward)... Ppl like Draymond wouldn't exist
NBA career was borderline HOF. But being the best player on the Fab 5 puts him over the top
@@xxtooshiestyxx8756 draymond ain’t HOF
@@jasonjanisewski78 YOU CUT IT OUT ABOUT MELO, MELO' S WON A COLLEGE TITLE AND WAS A TOP 5 PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE FOR YRS, YOU BETTER STOP ✋
I guess this stuff wouldn't be as fun if we just came up with actual criteria for a HOF.
The NBA should have its own Hall of Fame. Take the 35th, 50th and 75th anniversary lists and open up a museum. Induction ceremonies maybe every 5 or 10 years at the most. That would probably be one of the most exclusive halls in sports.
They need to do a hall of fame retraction.
Rob spot on. Just a few years ago dude was begging Stephen A to get back in the league…
There’s no nba hof it’s the basketball hof
@@getsomemoney2433 I'm aware of that. I've been there. It's in Springfield, Massachusetts. But thanks for the correction.
I kinda agree....add yao Ming too ... nobody from this class overwhelmed me as a HOF ... liked them all but still
It's always go time
I agree with Rob on this one Chris Webber, Tracy Mcgrady, Vlade Divac, Chris Mullin?
Rob is simply cold-blooded when it comes to his critique of athletes. Winning championships is the only thing that matters to Rob. If you don’t win, you’re not Hall of Fame worthy, no matter the sport.
Charles Barkley, Dan Marino, Ted Williams, Barry Sanders, Barry Bonds, Randy Moss, John Stockton, Bruce Smith, Iverson, Karl Malone, Griffey Jr, etc.
"Short menu"
He didn't say limit it to champions. But I think there should at least be excellence. Not simply competence.
Yup
@@topshotta2000 McGrady's numbers don't shout HOF to me at all. It's a joke!
Melo better than T-Mac? I totally disagree. I think Chris is wrong on this one.
It should be named the Hall of Pretty Good cause everyone gets in
Easy to feel that from some selections. But then that is an affront to the Very best who were No doubters.
How is Melo better than Chris Webber? Broussard is turning into a causal.
With Ben Wallace making the Hall of Fame then that has open doors for a lot of players! 5pts career average.
Ben is a HOF easy
@Junelle Tubania Thank you. Players can get into the hall of fame despite not having eye popping numbers.
Defense matters. How is Ben Wallace not a HOF.
4 dpoys says otherwise
Fame = Famous...so Put Famous players in the hall of fame.
simple
I agree with Rob, putting too many players in the hall of Fame is kinda shortsighted imo
I think that’s a different conversation about over saturation. Ie how many is too many. That’s not exclusive to basketball that’s every sport imo
I'm sorry McGrady and Webber were better than Melo. Both had more positive effect on their teams. McGrady was a great on ball defender and better scorer in his prime. Also more clutch. Webber just better and great passer
Chris Webber was at one time for a few yrs a top ten player, the greatest Sacramento King player, period, say what you want.
Top ten in the league or all time?
Yup in the early 2000s he absolutely was a top 10 player.
Top 10? For like 2 or 3 years maybe he was in the bottom of the top 10

I think All Star appearances go a long way with putting players in the HOF and that’s what their not mentioning
All NBA would be a better measure than all star appearances.
@@texastexas3759 True.
If it wasn't feeling melo we wouldn't even know Jeremy Lin
You should appear in atleast 5 finals series with a good win percentage to get in the HoF ala Jordan, Kobe, Bron, , magic, bill russell, etc..

Yao Ming don't belong either.
Carmelo is not better than Tracey McGrady. I put my life on that
Some of you guys commenting don’t seem to understand one important point.
The best players of their era deserve to be in the hof
Yea I have a problem with some of the players getting into the Hof and how soon…..
Hall of fame is popularity nowadays 😂😂😂
It's the basketball HOF. Not the NBA HOF. It's about the collective body of work of a player. Melo is 10th all time leading scorer, has a few olympic medals and a collegent championship. IMO that qualifies him. Respect!
So melo isn’t a nba hall of famer y’all crazy 🤣🤣🤣🤣
There is no NBA Hall of Fame.

He’s gonna end up being top 8 all time in scoring. If that isn’t a Hall of Famer. Idk what is.
There is the basketball HOF and there is the top 50/top 75 which will be coming out soon and that is the real nba HOF
FOH!
It's the basketball hall of fame, not NBA Hall of Fame. It counts college and Olympics as well. College + NBA is how Chris Webber finally got in
