Moocall Part 2

- In this episode of Our Wyoming Life - Moocall lends a helping hand during a winter/spring snowstorm here on the ranch.
The Moocall can accurately predict when your cow is most likely to give birth by measuring tail movement patterns triggered by labour contractions. When they reach a certain level of intensity over a period of time it then sends an SMS text alert directly to your cell phone on average 1 hour prior to calving.
Moocall available now from amazon : amzn.to/2nwwvGx

Butt dial. Lol! Great vid.
Haha. Thanks for watching -Mike
I am recently retired from the cattle business and watching your videos reminds me of checking cows in those nasty Idaho winters. I miss the cows, but not calving season. PS love your videos.
Calving season can be rough, I dont get much sleep, I get cranky, I'm sure no one likes it. Thanks a bunch ! - Mike
Hey, good work
Thank you and thanks for watching! -Mike
That was totally awesome.! Technology - who would've thunk it🌻 That inventor or inventors are going to be RICH as are the Ranchers will be blessed with more to sell. So AWESOME BLOSSOMS.
Agreed, thanks Betty - Mike
Great name for the calf. Great new tool for farmers everywhere. I also love the calf warmer. Something that more farmers could use.

Very cool process!
Incredible video, really enjoyed it.
Geez man! I'm guessing you don't sleep much with your lifestyle! Good luck and God bless.
Sleep can be rare at times, thank you very much - Mike
Moocall is an Irish company ..... so it's got to be good.
It look like life on the farm pretty fun. Let me know if you need a summer intern in the future. Thank
I'm sure Moocall is happy with the ad you made them. Did anything else calve in that stormy night? We have many females with the princess name but we don't have a Bliss yet , it's a cute name. We have a bunch after the royal family seen as we are Canadian's Princess Kate is my daughters favorite and she has the Frozen Princesses and her bull calf from her commercial cow is Olaf.
I'm happy with their product and I feel its a move in the right direction to incorporate technology into ranching. Mackenzie really loves the Frozen movies too, we have Elsa, Anna, Hans and Kristoff out here as well haha -Mike
You should do a 'name a calf' competition on reddit, would be fun and good publicity for your channel.
Good idea Matt, we have our own subreddit at www.reddit.com/r/OurWyomingLife/
Thats where we will do it so subscribe there too. Thanks Matt - Mike
Hi Our Wyoming Life
Hi right back at ya...thanks for watching! -Mike
Hello Mike, I´m from the Czech Republic and I´m watching your videos for a quite long time. Can I ask for you another experiences with Moocall? Are they all good? Can you help it with save some another calves? I think about buying this Moocall and use it for my own cows. Thank you for answer and sorry for my english. Milan
Hello Milan, for us the Moocall worked well. We used it on cows that we had close to the barn and knew when they were calving or close to it. We did get a few false alarms but I think those were mainly my fault because I didnt have the strap tight enough or too tight, one or the other. I hope it works for you. Thanks - Mike
Hey Mike , how come I don’t see you show your wife’s garden that much on the show? And can you please make longer show? Maybe like 30-60 mins, I enjoy watching it so much it would be cool if we as a fan can see longer episode.
So that’s how it works! Butt dial 😂
I'm surprised that your windbreaks don't act as a snow fence would per high wind and snow, resulting in the snow blowing over it to dump on the opposite side of the wall where the cows have congregated. What am I missing in their construction that prevents that from happening?
Good question. Snow fences are slatted, that allows wind to push through but the snow accumulates on one side. With the wind breaks the wind tends to move around them, creating a drift on one side or the other. The wind breaks are set up so that the prevailing wind usually hits the point of the break (think of them as triangles with the point facing into the wind). This leaves the inside of the windbreak free of snow. Most of our winter wind blows from the north, to the tip of the triangle is pointed to the north. I hope that makes sense. I am planning on showing how they work better in an upcoming video. Thanks for the awesome question, now my head hurts lol - Mike
Thanks for the good response. I was just a bit puzzled about how they actually worked. We do get a lot of snow fencing put up by the county to keep drifting on the roads to a minimum, but about 5 or 6 winters ago we had a severe blizzard with high winds and every building around here wound up acting as a "snow fence" of sorts. My own included. The prevailing wind sent the snow right over the house and dumped it on the back side so deep and fast I couldn't keep up with it with a snow blower. And one whole block in town had snow piled up on one side to the roof line. The town finally sent in a front loader to dig the shop owners out.
Might be what works in your favor is the openness of the land around you. The wind can stay more at ground level, then whips around the barricades. I'm in an area that is more hills and dales.
Glad the calves all made it. That's tough weather for calves that age. The calf warmer is a life saver for you, obviously.
Hey Mike,
3 questions:
How many years before a calf reaches maturity?
Do you employ any help on your ranch or do you do everything yourselves?
Did you lose any calves that night?
A cow will be bred when she is 15 to 18 months old and bulls reach maturity at about a year. I do have a high school kid that comes out on weekends and works but most of the time its just me. No we didn't lose any calves that night, although we easily could have, we did have a lot of very cold calves. Thanks for the questions! -Mike
Keep up the good work!
🐄
Sorry not on facebook . Any trouble with coyotes?
That’s a good kind of but call
We have a moocall
Very cool Thanks - Mike
Our Wyoming Life yeah love your channel
What brand of tags do you put in your cows
At 6:14 , a creature appears. What is that?
Its a cat that wanders in to check things out. Thanks for watching - Mike
Did you lose any calfs in the storm
We did not, it was a long night of checking cows constantly. Thankfully everyone was ok. Thanks Ina - Mike
Are you still using Moocall? If yes, how many units?
We only have one unit. We use it on special cases that are confined to the barn or corral. Thanks -Mike
1:08 at $300 a pop, I would hope so.
What might one of those moocall be worth?? And can one get a deal if you buy 10 or more
Hi there. Head over to Moocall.com. I think they run about 300$ a piece. If I remember right they do a bulk order discount. Thanks for watching ! -Mike
