I'm Irish and I wouldn't want a United Ireland and many I know wouldn't because there's at least roughly half the population of Northern Ireland who are unionists and war would probably start in the whole of Ireland because of the unionists who would know doubt object it going to all extremes they can to do so. Who would want war!!???? Isn't it just better the way it is now!

We also have Sinn Fein, which again is a wonder why people vote for them. Idiots vs murderers. Not a great choice. I’m a Unionist and I vote Alliance or UUP (not UUP this time though) I have had to vote for Alliance and the SDLP because I don’t want Brexit. They have never cared about it and how they are handling brexit has proved that . A United ireland would be a economic powerhouse in Europe and the world .
I don’t think it’s time for a vote yet but at least let’s have a conversation about what it could potentially look it like , not just in the north , a north , south conversation .

I’m a Unionist. But it’s hard to truly say that nowadays. This will be my 3rd time voting in just 2 years since I turned 18. I have never voted DUP, most of us young Unionists hate the DUP and everything they stand for. We want to stay in the EU and we wanted same sex marriage. However, we didn’t want abortion to be a total free for all. We were not asked, our government was not asked. We don’t even have the basic right of a voice because our government hasn’t sat for years. I have not voted once at a time when we had a government. Our country voted to remain, and yet the main Unionist parties are now campaigning leave. Who have I to vote for that has views in line with my own? My only real option is Alliance, and they would be pro choice. Now I’m not saying we didn’t need to change the law on that, we did. But not to what it is now. There needs to be strict guidelines because these are children’s lives we are talking about. I am forced to vote Alliance and then the two main Nationalist parties because I feel that the Unionist parties have totally destroyed any respect I had for them (well, the UUP anyway, I never had any respect for the DUP). I don’t want a United Ireland, but Westminster totally ignores us as a country. It’s entirely focused on England and maybe Wales. Scotland is forgotten about, but Northern Ireland is like the ugly middle child who they never wanted. They don’t have a government? Ah well, we won’t actually do something and stop their pay so they start working, not too worried about that lot. Let’s force through some legislation they have no say on and dock the pay a teeny bit. Let’s also not worry about essential projects and other things which would help the citizens out, who cares about them? Sure are they not Ireland? Let’s also not worry about the peace process and putting borders that neither community wants. The English government could not care less. And I say English, because they do not truly govern the UK, it’s all about England for them. Scotland is lucky to have a strong voice in the SNP that stands up for them. We don’t even have that. I want to stay in the EU and in the UK, but I don’t want to be cast aside and forgotten like we have been. I shouldn’t be forced to vote for murderers over Brexiteers! I don’t honestly think that a United Ireland would be good for us either. I love the NHS, I love my country, I don’t want it to become just Ireland because I am not Irish or British and I never will be.

Vote for murders? Are you unaware that most loyalist parties in NI are formed from loyalist terrorist groups that killed the most amount of civilians during the troubles, which btw was funded by British army? NHS is just as bad as the republic healthcare in fact it has longer waiting times.

    • @thePipeBandEnthusiast

The Magnificent Creep Actually, the statistics say that the Republican groups killed more than the British forces and the loyalists combined. I wouldn’t vote for the loyalist TUV anyway, does anyone? Sinn Fein publicly supported and collaborated with IRA. Their party is entirely made up of people who murdered and maimed, that is not the case for the main Unionist parties. Don’t get me wrong, the NHS isn’t perfect and it needs help, but free healthcare is a right and I enjoy it.

The NHS doesn't seem practicality good to me the wait times are insane even compared to the Republic, I have never had any issues with medical care here. I get what you're saying though and again if you feel that's a deal breaker for you than so be it Ruth.

@Jack The Film Fanatic In all due respect you don't have a good grasp of the history of the troubles, please read the article on Wikipedia properly. 60% includes British solders not civilian's, the actual statistics according to Malcolm Sutton's Index of Deaths from the Conflict in Ireland.
Of those killed by British security forces:
      (~51.2%) were civilians
Of those killed by loyalist paramilitaries:
      (~85.5%) were civilians
Of those killed by republican paramilitaries:
      (~52.5% were civilians.
Combining the total number of civilians killed by loyalists and the British army which colluded together is greater than the IRA.

Right now the republican and unionist demographics are pretty much neck and neck. Personally If I was a unionist I would jump on the idea of a united Ireland, take your share in the true republic, while you still can. This is a opportunity for you to shape a new country and have your voice heard, in your current situation you're just ignored because of how irrelevant you're to the British, but in a united Ireland you would be a sizable minority, you would have real say in how your country is run and not just getting orders from london.

The UK regularly has to make concessions to maintain peace and stability in Ireland.
Personally I think you would lose more than you gain. Negotiating with one unified Ireland would have advantages for Britain. Would not want to see unified Ireland while Brits in Northern Ireland bravely support the union.
I can understand heads been turned by the poor showing of British MP's. I'm English an if I could devource parliament I absolutely would. They are utterly shameless.
