Lucile, my wife and I just concluded a trip to London/Paris/Rome. We heeded your instructions regarding Paris, having watched all of your videos and purchased your Google map, which was very helpful! We enjoyed a café and pain au chocolat at your favorite neighborhood boulangerie, Mamiche. From there we walked to the Sacré-Coeur basilic, where we made the climb to its peak! What an incredible view of the city! We also visited the Square des Batignolles. We enjoyed lunch at Dose across the street. We also loved our dinner at Bien Élevé! These are just a few of the highlights!
@@LucileHR By the way, I know you are not... ummm... overly-impressed? by the Eiffel Tower… having grown up around it… But I wanted to let you know as an American first-timer in Paris, I was very surprised by how awe-struck I was standing at the base of the tower prior to our ascent to the top. (It was nighttime.) I was completely overwhelmed by the visceral reaction I had as I gazed up at this incredible iconic structure. I just couldn't believe I was standing there. I'm still in awe even as I reflect on that moment. Perhaps it was more of what it represented, a dream come true. We were there. In Paris. With our impending visit to the Louvre the next morning. Something my wife has talked about since the day I met her, and married her 38 years ago. All of that was wrapped up into that one moment.
This was a fantastic video Lucile! It put together so many pieces for me (especially the windmill - I saw it when I visited and didn't realize it was a whole thing). I hope you do this for all the other neighborhoods of Paris!
Thank you so much for saying this!! I’ve always loved that windmill haha I might do that for my other favorite neighborhoods if this video is well received :)
You brought back great memories of climbing the hill to Sacre-Coeur, we stopped half way up to eat our bread and cheese on the curb, while the Madame of the shop behind us watched like a hawk that we didn't dirty up her street, and we were very careful not to! The Cathedral is magnificent and the art was appalling, you are absolutely correct about that, I had so hoped to see some original work. After our visit to the Cathredral we wandered through the neighbourhood and it was beautiful. I would like to come back for a longer stay someday, Thanks for sharing!
Thank for the video. I love Montmartre and have been there a few times, most recently this past February. I walked around Rue de l'Abreuvoir and it is quite lovely. On the west end of it, near Buste de Dalida, a man was selling crepes from a push cart bicycle. I also loved hanging out at Square Suzanne Buisson. I stayed at a hotel a block south of Anvers. It was a modest room indeed but the view was a magnificent view westward. The hotel was in an area that really didn't have any tourists at all, yet it was a short walk to the bottom of Sacré-Cœur. I don't really mind the crowds at Sacré-Cœur. There are a lot of people but it seems we're all just hanging out on the steps enjoying the view, like we could all be locals at a park just enjoying the day. It doesn't seem as chaotic as, let's say,Palais de Chaillot. If I lived there(one day), I definitely would go there on a regular basis, especially in the morning. Anyway I have to come back just for the that French Toast. I know this is long but your video inspired me.
Hello could you share the hotel you stayed? I’m here watching this video because I’ve been scared of staying in Montmartre after almost everyone warns me about this area being dangerous and some tell me that it only depends on what part of Montmartre we are staying. Is it true that Montmartre has a “good” area and a shady area. For a person who hasn’t been there before, it’s so difficult to identify what street or block would be a decent option to book a hotel. I hope you see this message and give me some advice. 🙏
@@sammi0816 Hi-I don't know if Montmartre has a good area and a shady area. It might in some respects but that can be said of any neighborhood in Paris or anywhere really. We stayed at Hôtel du Square d'Anvers. The room was very average and was more than adequate for sleeping. As I said above, my room looked out west onto Paris, it was a lovely view-It's possible you could get a room facing the courtyard. I also liked them because the let my friend check in before me. I paid for the room but my friend was arriving a few hours before me and they let her check in with no issues. They were also nice. As you can see when you google the hotel-it is close to Sacré-Cœur. As soon as you cross Blvd Marguerite de Rochechouart. It is very touristy so there are lots of people there. If you go to the top to Place du Tertre, west of Sacré-Cœur, there is a cafe Carette, that has the best hot chocolate. I believe just south of the hotel is not touristy at all. On the same block is a typical Parisian bistro, Le Grand Comptoir d'Anvers. We went their for breakfast a few times and dinner. It was frequented by locals. Across the street from there, on Ave Trudaine is Boulangerie Léonie, a coffee shop that is also frequented by locals. And right across the street from the hotel, in the park, they set up a market every Friday. Ask my any other questions. If I could do it all over again , I'd be a travel agent/tour guide.
Lucile, I saw your video about which districts one should visit, where I learned about Montmartre. So when I visited Paris, I went there and it really was my favorite! Thank you for the great recommendation!
Hi Lucile, Thank you for this video. It looks like we are arriving in Paris on a good weekend and staying in Montmartre. Will definitely make it to the wine festival! I love your presentation and your super cool demeanor. Greetings from Chicago!
J'adore ! One of the nicest neighborhoods in Paris.😊 Kozy was such a great brunch, so happy we went and also the hotel spa looks like such a nice peaceful break. I have added Boulom to my list :)
My wife and I visited Montmartre, did the touristy things, took the petite tram around, then walked the north side like you explained. This video reminds me of that time. Thanks. We also found a Salvador Dali museum just to the west of the Sacre Coeur.
Bonjour Lucile! Awesome video and as always super informative. I’m taking the whole family to Paris for 7 days next July of 2025 and you have made our touring schedule so easy with all of your insight and also so hard with the many, many amazing districts in Paris that you have detailed 😁.
Hi Lucile, I love your videos. My partner & I took your advice and are currently staying in a beautiful apartment right on rue des Levis. As an ex-chef and food lover, it’s paradise for me. We usually stay in Le Marais, but I think Le quarter des Batignolles will be our Paris home in the future! Thank you for your videoed, you’re doing an excellent job!!
Lovely video! Thank you! I’d love to recommend the book The Only Street in Paris: Life on the Rue Des Martyrs by Elaine Sciolino to anyone who’s keen to learn more about the history of the area. It focuses more on the bit in the 9th (and the history around the division) but it’s also a great story of her life as an NYT editor who moved to and settled in Paris with her family. I was spending a lot of time in Paris for work and found it to be a wonderful historic / autobiographical read 😊
While walking my dog this afternoon, I recited TS Eliot's poem "Sweeney among the Nightingales," and thought especially about the line "The nightingales were singing near the convent of the Sacred Heart." I came back home and saw your video, which prompted me to wonder whether the Sacre Coeur in Montmartre was the source of inspiration for Eliot's line. It turns out that Eliot, who knew Paris well, wrote the poem (first published in 1918) shortly after the cathedral was completed. He also wrote in a letter that the reference to Sacred Heart was meant to be contemporary, rather than medieval, as others had suggested. This makes sense, since the following line of the poem, by contrast, has the nightingales singing at Agamemnon's death in long ago Greece. So, I am convinced that his Sacred Heart is indeed Montmartre's, save for the transformation all things real undergo in poetry. Thank you so much for helping me realize this!

Yea, no “running” around Paris for me. “Flâneuring” around town is more in keeping with what I like to do and how I like to do it. Thanks for giving us a glimpse of the less turista side of Montmartre. And that buffet? One more place to seek out. So much to do and see and so little time😩
Every year I go to Montmart area to have dinner and take night time pictures after the tourist go back to their hotels, but never think about to look to the LEFT side on Rue Saint-Éleuthère. And there's the Tour Eiffel. Hahahaaa. Thanks.
Bonjour Lucille! Thank you for this video! I specifically had Montmartre on my list to visit to get a portrait drawn of me and my husband, but it’s nice to see it is also very beautiful! Coincidentally we’ll be there during the grape harvesting festival. Have you ever been?
Hi Lucile, we're heading to Paris in December. Could you make a video on what to do in Paris in winter? For example: Christmas market, what's open, what to wear etc. We're from Northern Australia and completely unused to cold weather.
Lucile, your videos are making me fall in love in Paris! I am visiting Paris this december, How many days would you recommend for a visit. I do want to include Disneyland as well in it.
I meant to stay in Montmartre for the second half of my trip to Paris in November, but I accidentally booked an Airbnb more on the south part of Clignacourt. Looks close enough, so hopefully it should still be good. Basically right in the upper right corner of the outline you drew for recommended area to stay (pretty much across the street from the Marcadet - Poissonniers metro station).
Ouf I remember that Abbesses station, I spent so long to approach the surface when taking the stairs, and I discovered that there was an elevator when I came back.
Montmartre is very pretty and picturesque I agree but it’s nowadays 100% packed with tourists and instagram spots seekers… so not the typical parisian spot for locals 😊
Lucile, I love your videos, but people need to know that the artists at the Place du Tertre have been trained in fine arts schools (comme Beaux Arts), and they are selling their original works here in the square. They are required to paint here and cannot just bring paintings from their ateliers. So although you are absolutely right about the stores surrounding the area selling made in China stuff that you shouldn't buy, when you purchase art from the artists at the Place du Tertre, you are buying original art from the artist. I think it's one of the best souvenirs you can get from Paris!
Yes! I absolutely agree with you, I’m talking about the shops around place du Tertre! The controversy has also opposed the actual artists to the shops that sell made in China paintings!
