This is what the regular series is missing.... I think we need to see more of Ant doing more than just explaining what he has done. This build is a fantastic series, lovin it!
We used a good polish and pva release agent, maybe some double layers on the corner knock points or a few carbon fibre strands also some foam lengths bonded in to strengthen, nice result though, going to be a cool result.

Chopped STRAND mat. Gel coat only hardens in the absence of air, it stays tacky to allow good adhesion of the layers of glass fibre. In another video he called a water pump impeller a fan. A real expert.
Aren't these resins used, Styrene-based unsaturated Polyesters? If so and as a former Polymers chemist, the vapour is dangerous both short and long term one leading to Retrobulbar Neuritis. Nasty stuff and good ventilation and eye covering is essential.
You first make a 'Buck'. You make the shape of the car out of wood, chicken wire and clay (I'm serious). When you have done all the shaping in the clay, you layer on gelcoat and thick fibeglass to make the first mould. From that mould you make the prototype body, which you then make perfect using body filler. Once you are happy with the finish and shape you can make the production mould, from which you make the proper car body. The thicker you make the production mould, the longer it will last, and the more bodies you can make out of it before it will need replacing.
@@queeg6473 True. That's why the mould is so flimsy. It was there for a one off pull. Maybe two or three at best just in case there was a problem with one of them. If it was a production mould it have been a lot thicker.
@@timothydraper3687 It takes a very skilled pattern maker to make the master male pattern. Fairly decent editing. To the untrained eye, you'd think Ant was the one doing the fiberglassing, when in fact, it's the left-handed bloke with the watch on his right wrist.
Hm, its easy to work with that glassfibre sauerkraut but real fabric is much stronger. and why dont he use carbon ? 20 squaremeter cost 400€ and glassfibre costs 80€.
Most likely cost. Quick search reveals cost of carbon fibre around 140$ per kg. Fibreglass way cheaper. Plus if damaged the fibreglass can be repaired..

In reality wheeler dealers would have gone bust years ago with their business plan, basically buy a vehicle at just below market value, spend 6 months restoring with no budget while Brewer spends hundreds on non essential bling and sell ,making about £200 profit and not taking into account the actual labour cost.really worth the effort .
make it into the highest viewed motoring TV show and syndicate it all over the world. The cost of the car and doing up just created some very cheap TV.
Love the channel, but please can you use metric rather than American imperial measurements. We weren't using ounces 25 years ago when we were making race boats. And its chopped STRAND mat. Common chap. You're English, not American.

Ant im loving watching you do what you do best .thats design and build cars .loving this series. Big love from the UK ❤❤
Love the fact you can see your passion for this in your eyes and face , brilliant 😉
Brilliant Ant, your passion for all things automotive and knowledge is infectious !
It’s great watching folk who are good at what they do.

The best bit about this video is not hearing Mike Brewer's voice!

A real treat to watch a master builder in action.

You can tell this guy really loves what he does would love to meet him one day
Look forward to you going back to America as soon as possible,
Awesome vids! Hard to believe to layers of 1.5 oz cam can produce that shell! Can’t wait to see finished car!
Cool vid . I enjoyed working with glass and carbon whilst molding things
I love these tutorials!

Ant runs businesses? You really think if he didn't know what he was doing he get found out pretty quickly?
Running businesses doesn't always mean you know what your doing
I've been watching this series and iys way better than WD, as Mike is not there
Couldn't agree more... Lol
Waiting for new episode... Cant wait to see more ☺️☺️☺️
Such a talented mechanic and craftsman.
Fantastic, but, PLEASE - show us how the mould was created
Exactly, kinda pointless otherwise

this guy was great in for the love of cars was filmed in Hertfordshire
It’s neat to see how the body is made in the mold. BUT how do you accually come up with the making of the “mold” itself?
There’s a whole season on Amazon about the making of this car. Assume it’s in the show. But I don’t have the right subscription to watch it.

And yet he's telling everyone "how to do it". He says "strands" later in the video so he does know what they're called.

How or who made the mould
Just epic!!! 👏🏽
These moulds didnt make themselves also they need 10 times the skill to make, nae dis but show the whole story Ant
Great to see Kevin Pietersen can wrench after retiring from cricket.

Can a carbon fibre panel be easily repaired once damaged compared to fibreglass?
