Yeah this was back when their, ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s films were getting TV remakes before they got theatrical ones (or I guess, another installment in Herbie’s case). The Absent Minded Professor and Freaky Friday also got these before Flubber and Lohan, respectively
Let’s be honest, none of the herbie sequels after the original were very good. This film wasn’t perfect, but it wasn’t over the top campy. It got dark, had a solid cast, and had a great musical score. Instead of milking the classic love bug score, it did something completely original. It deserves a remaster, and a spot on Disney +
Man, that's a a real shame that this movie hasn't received that much attention, or even received a DVD, or Blu-Ray release. If it weren't for this video I probably wouldn't have ever even heard of this film. Very cool that Bruce Campbell stars in it! Hopefully sometime in the future the Campbell Love Bug will become a bit more mainstream. Also, maybe in the future you could have a look at The Rugrats Movie as I don't see a lot of people talking about it anymore especially despite Rugrats' huge success.
I am curious if you can review original Beyblade? A lot of people know about the Metal Fusion era and Burst era but the original era is often overlooked.
This tv movie was actually my introduction to the franchise back in my childhood. Yes, most of the other films are better, but for a tv movie, I find this pretty solid. While it does take time to really get going, the fact that we get Herbie's origin story and an evil counterpart to him really makes this stand out. Of course, Dean Jones' return was very welcome, and the climax worked very well. Overall, this would have made for a much better sendoff than Herbie Fully Loaded, which really lacked a strong narrative. While the title of this movie is as lazy as it could get, this tv movie really should be redistributed by Disney, at least on Disney+. Of course, this movie is far better than the tv series, which had really bad writing. If I were to rank the franchise from worst to best, it would be the following: #7. Herbie: The Love Bug (TV series) #6. Herbie Fully Loaded #5. The Love Bug (TV movie) #4. Herbie Goes Bananas #3. Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo #2. The Love Bug #1. Herbie Rides Again
I saw the first 4 movies as a kid, my parents took me to the drive-in. I'm ashamed to admit I bothered to watch the Lindsay Lohan one, too...I just happened to come across it one day when there was nothing else on. :grimacing: I wasn't even aware of the Bruce Campbell one! oh wow Mickey Dolenz & Clarence Williams III are in it too :D
I saw the title of the video and thought herbie’s not that forgotten, outside of people now remembering the Volkswagen Beetle as bumblebee from transformers, then realized it was the remake/reimagining,I said”oh the one I red on Wikipedia once”I have the fourth and fifth movies taped off tv and from the fourth one’s tape,I got another show to suggest, big guy and rusty
i don’t remember the exact details but the movie was produced with co-operation between Saban Entertainment, Disney and MCA TV (also known as MCA Television Limited). MCA went through several series of buyouts, mergers and rebrandings. However i feel that isn’t the reason of the rights issues. Ugh i’m gonna have to research this.
I completely forgot about this! Great work... please consider doing Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Lost World; and WMAC Master (if you’ve yet to cover it)
I think even if it was that bad it still should be a part of the franchise and should be still available even if only other people watch it. I suppose the reason why they had to push the car and was cut in half because the engine would have been cut in half as well and the engine wouldn't work that could be a reason
id love to see you review, Rocketman or My date with the presidents daughter, two disney movies that are great 90s disney movies but never talked about or on the network
Please do an episode on Roswell Conspiracies: Aliens, Myths and Legends it's a really good show that in my opinion is almost as good if not better than the MIB show
I honestly always remembered this installment of Herbies Franchise and its always stuck with me the one or two times i saw it on the Disney Channel
So glad to see this movie get recognition. I saw it back when it aired and bummed it hasn't been released on Disney+

You cover some obscure stuff, but this is way out there.

I watched this back when it originally aired. I loved that Dean Jones appeared in it.

Imagine this possible crossover: "Herby vs The Car".
Nice retrospective. FYI there was also a very short lived HERBIE tv sitcom that aired back in 1982 starring Dean Jones. :)

I love this movie. The story is great. I wish there was a DVD/Blu-ray release. Anyone know where I can get one? Region free is an option as well
Off topic but since you're a fan of both Gundam and Ultraman which series would you recommend for beginners like me to start with?
Unfortunately a lot of fans disregard this film and fully loaded.
I like they also had another Brit, like David Tomlinson, as the main bad guy.
How about the following: Extant, Threshold, the V reboot, 14 going on 30, and Virtuosity?

I'm dying to get a copy but the only seller wants 57 bucks for postage to Australia which is a totally highway robbery
