I use a small notebook to log the details, then fill in the logbook when I'm home.
Of course I can't get it signed or stamped, but it's for my personal use so works for me.

Subsurface mobile app is my main logbook now. Imports your dives from your computer and saves it in the cloud.
Lots of options, including gps marking of the dive locations.
It's open source, free and from the hand of (amongst others) Linus Torvalds, the developer of Linux.
    Highly recommended.

good info. If you're using paper still, I'd take a picture of the paper after you fill it out in case the paper gets wet.
Subsurface log app is great( and free) if you use a laptop/desktop to download your dives from your computer. But DO NOT FORGET to backup your data, losing a hard drive is a catastrophic event. Do not depend on your dives being on your computer forever. accidents/ thefts happen.

Subsurface also have cloud storage for your dives. This way you have a backup and you can access your logbook from any device.

That’s right, paper rules. Data formats change, devices or services are discontinued, files are accidentally deleted. With an old school logbook you have a fair chance of keeping things for good.

@@leopoldbloom4835 True. With Subsurface you can print your logged dives when you get home. The standard templates are good and you can edit them to get whatever you want on you paper copy.

With a decent amount of dives under your belt the actual number doesn’t mean much anymore, but sometimes the additional information does. Where exactly was that awesome place for seeing manatees? What time of the season was that whale shark encounter back then? Let’s face it, memories blur and it’s nice to be able to look things up.

MacDive is a fantastic app for both iPhone and Mac computers. The support is great (they implemented a computer a few years back just for me because it wasn’t supported yet), and the functionality, too. I import my dives straight from the shearwater into the app on the phone and fill in crucial info I would forget otherwise (like tank pressures and weights). The do SAC calculations, show gas switches and much more. Highly recommended!

I use a combination of logs, I put all my logs on Diving Log 6.0, training logs go in books with signatures, and I am right now using the PADI log and diverlog+ which is integrated into the dive computer I am using.

What is the point of a custom stamp? For when you're not with a dive shop so you can sign for the buddy you dove with?

i use my logbook, besides the lead i use, as a souvenir with stamps from different dive shops. i also have a sharks tooth crazy glued on a page. different log book pages have different info. i like the ones that allow you to rate the dive from 0-10. the logbook is also a good place to keep all my cert cards and insurance in one place.

I was a diver in the Navy, we logged dives to get paid. I don't see the point of logging civilian dives, no one likes the twat on a dive trip swinging thier dive count around like thier knob.
