Peter Cetera is my favorite singer. Took me a long time to figure that out since l’m a music buff. There are so many amazing voices in music that it’s hard to find that #1. My curiosity got the best of me because l noticed when he sings it looks like he grinds his teeth. I did some research remembering he was at a baseball game where 3 Marines started a fight with him because he had long hair. He ended up with his jaw broken in 3 places and wired shut. I think a couple months passed and his band mates told him he had to get back on stage to which he did. He sang with his jaw wired and after the wires came off he just kept singing as if his jaw was still wired. It amazes me because he is considered to be falsetto. He is able to hit those high pitches with barely opening his mouth. He also sings with his body from head to toe…..such passion and emotion. I’m happy he retired when he did as it’s hard for musicians who sing to keep their vocals cords working like they did years ago. Anywhooooo just a bit of trivia. I do research for a living and he was interesting to do.
So surprised Kenny didn't make the big time...Great voice...Peter is such a perfectionist...His voice is uniquely exceptional...Brilliant song writer...Love watching this...Thank You.
Absolutely, positively my favorite male singer! I'm sorry he left Chicago but many of his best recordings came after that. Cetera is a legend with a legendary voice; I hope he's grateful for it because that voice is a gift from God Almighty.
Thanks! It was a great surprise for us too. We had already seen Kenny's show the night before and wasn't planning on seeing them the second night, but then we heard from their trombone player (who's a friend of a friend) told us that there was a good chance Peter would be there. It was a fantastic show and for only $10
Very true! I've seen Chicago 4 times but not once since Peter left the band. It wouldn't be the same, just as wouldn't be the same to see Journey without Steve Perry, Foreigner without Lou Gramm and CCR without John Fogerty.
I agree Ross but that new guy with Foreigner .You've got to give him credit.I think he's excellent.Check out Urgent from the german concert about ten years ago
@Rob F After years of being treated like hired help in Chicago. Cetera should be allowed to be himself. Confidence is not arrogance . You really should take a good look at James Pankow, Lee Laughnane if you want to talk about arrogance and Robert Lamm who never talks to fans.
No, it's Kenny Cetera's keyboard player for his Chicago Tribute band. They're all very good. They're going to be playing here in Vegas again this weekend, but unfortunately I'll be out of town.
The current line-up of Chicago might be good. However no Peter Cetera then no Chicago. I have followed their music from the CTA days. Yep that long. I am that old. 68 next April 1st.
Kenny Cetera is just a carbon copy of his (more famous) big brother. Peter also have another brother(Tim). I mean no disrespect, but he ISN'T Peter. He can sing beautifully as Peter, but the way Peter sings, it's heartfelt ♥.
I will never understand the road that Cetera took. Loved him in Chicago just as millions of others did but could not follow him after he left the band. Then again it was the 80s and the music industry was changing.
Some singers and bands just want to go different directions, I guess. What I suspect with so many singers of bands who "stand out" is that record executives/managers get in their ear about how they are the "voice" of the band, that they should go solo, they don't need the others, etc etc. I think this is especially true of female singers - Gwen Stefani comes to mind.
Peter wanted to do solo projects and perform in the band (a' la Phil Collins and Genesis), but was forced to make a choice. He just didn't want to spend as much time on the road since he'd become a father at that time. It was a doable arrangement, but unfortunately, egos and outside influences got in way.
I don’t know, I love him with Chicago but I love him even more in his solo work! Maybe it’s just me. If you really listen to the albums and the songs (not just the radio releases) they are awesome.
@@austinmull8515 90% of the hits by Chicago were sung by Peter Cetera. So, he's the man. Yeah, they had some hits after Peter left, but most of their hits after Cetera were written by other songwriters.
And that is the public's sad perception of a once-great band these days. Chicago was once dominated by songs from Robert Lamm with other important contributions from Terry Kath and Jimmy Pankow. Cetera developed into a decent songwriter but not until the mid-70's after the band had already released several successful albums and had several hits (some of them sung by Cetera but written by other band members). my guess is that Kenny does it in the original key, Peter has been dropping the keys as of late but he shows he can still hit all the notes just probably would take a toll show after show of doing it.
Peter is a senior citizen and still has a remarkable voice but he has adjusted his arrangements so that he is still capable of doing shows back to back without needing to take days off to recover. Have you tried singing like you did in your teens and twenties lately? It requires an effort as you get older.
Personally, I feel that Cetera was so much better as a member of Chicago. He was an outstanding bassist and high-end singer for them, but his solo career as a lounge singer never appealed to me.

Didn't write until the narcissist (Foster) got his hooks into him and made him think he was above the others.
Sounds like they were both out of voice on this night. And Kenny trying to harmonize even higher when the song is already extremely high, even for Peter, just really sounded bad. It came off looking foolish and unprofessional. Peter never should have allowed this… he knows better.
Cetera was great in his prime but now is just a shadow of his former self at 78 years old. Cetera transposes all of his songs down as many as four keys to be able to sing them. Frankie Valli at 88 years old still sings all of his songs in the same keys as the original recordings and a couple of them, even a step higher! Therefore, Frankie Valli is the king.
