I bought the AD10 and love it. I did lots of modifications before I placed it into service. You’re the first person besides me I have seen using 2 straps. My own innovation is two handles on base so I can carry it easier.
I had a serious condition: aperture fever on a limited budget. Luckily, I found the cure - an old 16" Meade StarFinder for $500. If my budget allowed, I would go for the newer collapsible 16' Meade, especially with the GoTo tracking mount.
Very beautiful scope. I use to have the 12 inch five years ago. The mirror tested at 1/8 wave. Star test support this. I liked that f5 was perfect. Combine with wide field eyepiece you cannot do better. It gave incredible views. It was too heavy for me so I sell it and got 8 inch. 12 inch is monster. Good luck.
I have one but I use a hand truck modified with the shipping blocks that came with the telescope..I'm afraid of dropping the tube by carrying it..I'm older than you:):):) thanks, good video.
There's a 12" Orion Dob for sale on my local Craigslist for under $500. I am so close to pulling the trigger. Your video helped me get the full scale. Thanks!!
I was initially worried until you said you're 5'8". My DD at the moment is a C7 Vette. If you were 6'3" like me, I would've been worried this wouldn't fit in my trunk. But I do believe I can fit the 12 inch dobs into my Vette (trunk is bigger than you would imagine). I think I'll splurge for the 12 dobs rather than the 10 dobs. I want a reflector to get the most true-color views in the universe.
I have a dodge challenger and it does not fit in my trunk. Not even close. I would be shocked if it fits in your Vette. Please send picks if you get it to fit. Clear skies!
You could buy a rolling kit for it I think it’s 200$ U.S for 8 inch 10 inch and 12 in but yeah it’s pretty heavy 85Lbs with no counter weights (fully assembled)
I can't speak on the 10 but I would never trade my 12 for anything. It is the ultimate visual instrument for the backyard astronomer. I have had so much fun over the past year and a half learning the night sky and seeing the most incredible things the universe has to offer. If you can handle the size and weight I would highly recommend the 12!
Nice video. Finally able to get a size comparison. Looks manageable enough for me. I going shopping! Did you purchase the Dob from Explore Scientific? Any issues with the delivery? The tube box must have been huge. I worry about shipping damage on items like this. One more thing, how do you stuff the scope into that nice Dodge Charger in the driveway!
Mines is moves totally on a padded hand truck, way too much muscle dude. As a preference, I take the path of least resistance. A cheap Hand truck rules!!!!
Awesome brother I just got the same one!
Apertura AD12 Dobsonian 12" Telescope with Accessories I just put it together last night 🙌🙏🏻
Awesome, prepare to have your mind blown! Clear skies!
Great video, you answered my questions!

Thanks for the demonstration. If a person had stairs to contend with, that could be a disaster.

I'm 115 lbs so I went with the 10. Its pretty manageable for me, dont think I could handle the 12

Not that it probably matters, but most people put on the eyepiece tray flipped the other way with the bolt on flange pointed down.
Thank you for the video. I have AD10. Where did you buy the those strap handles? or how did you make those straps
I got the 8" inch for my first telescope and it comes in tomorrow, I think later on I might upgrade to the 12".
Enjoy the 8!! You will get some great views, clear skies!
I got a 10" and I'm frankly a lazy dude, especially by 10PM, so 10" has to be enough 😆
no images?
What straps did you use? Thanks
kinda reminds me of my water heater😮
Link to the straps?
What model is the telescope smaller telescope?🤔
Bushnell Northstar 90mm Maksutove Telescope 788890
At first i wanted a 10 and then decided on 12 when i saw how much more it gathers light and now i saw this i want a 15 😂😂😂
Great information. After sometime now, would you still get the 12 or the 10?
