It's not even the same game anymore. While baseball and basketball have certainly changed from my childhood, the NFL is today a completely different game than the game I grew up watching and playing. And yes I played through high school, college, and arena football. In today's game simply hitting hard is illegal. There is no such thing as a legal, hard hit. If it looks too hard, if the hit simply looks too hard, it's a penalty.
