yeah. my trainer had a gunner grandson who was deaf. turned out to be spectacular before he sold him as an early 3yr old. i dont look at their deafness as a downfall, just the fact that they can't hear whoa, but they can still feel it.
I can't believe This horse is deaf, and any of his sons or daughters will be deaf if there markings go past there eyes....I rode one of Gunner's daughter, she was deaf, and looks exactly like him! lol :D
Probably the breeders wanted to keep the original interesting markings and therefore didn't allow "new blood" to come to the line. Means they mated close relatives - daughter and father, or so - and this leads to such rubbish as blindness and other defects. But they fixed the markings with this :).
Oh please! What an old school (obsolete school) mentality! Thanks to research at UC Davis and the University of Kentucky, the new understanding of genetic inheritance makes line breeding for color unnecessary. Modern breeders have a better understanding of how it works and no longer rely on inbreeding to produce spiffy colors. Gunner could cover a mare from a completely different breed, let alone family, and produce beautifully colored foals. In fact, that's how stallions earn their keep.
My favorite APHA!
Very Pretty Horse. Love his markings.
