  • The Washington Post says it has seen a Pentagon document criticizing Canada's military readiness among materials allegedly posted online by a Massachusetts Air National Guardsman arrested last week. The leaked documents say Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told NATO officials privately that Canada will never reach the military spending target agreed to by members of the alliance. Retired Lt.-Gen. Andrew Leslie says the Canadian Armed Forces is not pulling its weight when it comes to defence capability and military readiness.

i served in the military and in the past, we wouldnt complain too much about defense spending as we were in a more peaceful era. i actually felt we should spent 1.7% of gdp spending. but after the ukraine conflict intensified, i felt we would need to meet 2.0%. someone needs to ask JT why we will never meet 2.0%? we have a larger economy than russia. australia has a larger military, and they have smaller economy and less people than us. i hope canadians raise more questions about this to their politicians

Clearly asking Trudeau a simple question doesn't work. The reporter on the Hill did just that and he went off on a tangent about other nonsense and as usual never answered the question. That's what he does. I too served in the army, and the current state of our armed forces is shockingly bad.

Our Liberal "leader" AGAIN answering a direct question with an indirect answer. Not only are NATO members alarmed with the state of our military, CANADIANS are alarmed with the lack of defense spending / budget. It shouldn't be the responsibility of other countries to carry us through tumultuous times. We need to hold our own with RELEVANT defense resources & technology. As a G7 country, we should be able to maintain "par" with our NATO allies. If it's a matter of funding, we should consider replacing our Finance Minister, Chrystia Freeland, with someone competent in managing a Trillion dollar budget. Canadians are being taxed heavily through hard times. The funds are there...

It was laughable to suggest Canada lead a peace keeping force in Haiti. To take control of 11 million people living in slums who view outsiders as hostile invaders, Canada would need an initial landing force of 150,000 to secure the island and go house to house clearing the island of weapons. Afterwards probably 40,000 to keep peace on the island until the police force was reconstituted and elections held.
Canada doesn't have the people, the budget, or the ships to stand up and transport such a force. So that was never going to be a reality.
2% of GDP ought to be a floor. It is too late when you need the troops and don't have the troops nor the infrastructure to support and equip the troops. Canada is definitely a nation of freeloaders.

The big problem is whenever the government (whether run by conservatives of liberals) tries to buy weapons/jets for Canada, or increase defense spending - the Canadians population collectively looses its💩. People get angry cause they don't want money spent on weapons. Until now I don't think they've fully understood why weapons are necessary. Now all you have to do is look at what's happened to Ukraine and understand why readiness and weapons are necessary. So I hope our govt can increase defense spending so that NATO doesnt' kick us out. As of recently, european NATO members expect Canada to contribute more spending, or they're going to diplomatically isolate us..
We should opt out and tell them to go screw themselves.
This supposed alliance actually expects Canada to contribute more militarily spending to its own defence, than we have in trade with them...
Same European members that have primarily traded and thus funded Russia for the past 5+ decades, literally choosing to trade with their own rivals, before their own allies..
They won't even properly sanction Russia, and have contributed far less on a per capita bases to help save Ukraine. While they fund their own rivals, we fund Ukraine, and yet we get scrutinized.
Europe and european NATO members should seriously be ashamed.

I worked for the General in Bosnia and in Persian Gulf. We again met in Wainwright during training for Afghanistan 0109. There's no reason any normal country should spend fortune to defend against a non existant enemy just for the sake of MIC and American hegemonic ambitions. The Ukraine crisis is aan unfortunate situation ingeneered by the US and the loosers are Russians and Ukrainians. This madness got to stop. Tomorrow is gonna be China and Taiwan. NATO got to change and stop being an American tool to destroy the world so that the US should remain the lone reigning wolf 🐺

I am afraid of nothing anymore.
In the past, I was afraid not having enough time to complete everything that I wanted to in life.
That passed a long time ago though.
What is there to fear? If we would see the truth, then we would have no fear of anything at all, because we would then see that we are in the hands of the good and benevolent upper force. Also, we would see that we have no control over our lives, and we thus have nothing to fear. In short, we have nothing to be afraid of.
