    Hey Marty,
    I have the GB8 32 and am doing very well with the routing but I can’t figure out how you’re getting stereo out of the groups. I have drums selected to group 1-2 and while each individual channel is panned correctly, the group comes through the headphones in mono. I’ve tried to pan the groups like you have yours but the image never changes. How are you sending channels back to the DAW, individual channels, group bus outs or mix bus out?
    Thanks ahead of time!

    Dedicated bus for the bass is a great concept. But definitively not enough bass in the final mix. Crank it up mate !

    dumb question, I have 3 vocals I send to one group, how do you add compression to the group vs the 3 indv vocal channels? My mixer does not have a group insert, just inserts for each normal input. I assume larger mixers have inserts for each group and you would do it that way.

  • @alxbdn6695

    @zed - Thanks for your cool tutorial. :) I have a question about the Group and Aux swap: If I turn the switch: Does that kill the Aux Bus entirely Or only the fader section? And if it swaps both fader and potis: Do both output sections still function? (I intend to use it as a live console and I would like to work with 4 Aux for Monitors, 2 Aux for FX and hopefully 4 Stereo Sub-Groups to organize my submixes. And as you can guess it would be great to have control about ALL output levels. So it would be sad If I would have to choose e.g. between a monitor mix and a group... ?

    Do you think it's much better to get the GB8 if you can to get double the buses or are they not really necessary? I'm unsure of the GB2 vs GB4 vs GB8. Is it bad to have your analog recordings converted into digital (on your DAW) then converted back into analog, then converted back in to digital again? Doesn't all this back and forth degrade the signal? From a practicality point of view i'm not really sure how to work things - the plan was to run all of my synths and drum machines and sampler through the GB series mixer in a live performance style - then run them out through 32 in/out ferrofish converters and a rme madiface into my DAW. However, if I want to get my recordings back out of the DAW and run them through the mixer again am I going to have to rewire the entire mixer since all the inputs are used up from my analog gear? Seems like a problem i'm not sure how to fix.

    • @ZedMartyProduction
      @ZedMartyProduction  4 роки тому

      I‘d get the GB8 because I‘m a fan of multiple buses, but it wasn‘t available anywhere when I bought the mixer. So i went with the GB4. I don‘t think that multiple conversion passes are a huge deal because the converters are very good nowadays. In my tests I couldn‘t hear any degradation. If you want to use outboard gear when mixing there‘s no other way to do it ;) You can use a patchbay for quick patching inputs and outputs or get an inline console where you can switch between Line Inputs and DAW/Tape returns. e.g. Mackie 8Bus, Behringer MX8000/9000, Trident Audio 68, Soundcraft Ghost, Allen&Heath GSR-24, Toft ATB, Audient ASP 4816

    like the video ! quick question: How do you route from your buss (stereo) 1/2 (or 2/3) thru a mono effect? You just use insert of Group 1 (or 3)? I figure you have 2 channel compression but what with a 1 channel compression for your Drumbuss?

    • @ZedMartyProduction
      @ZedMartyProduction  2 роки тому +1

      You can insert a mono compressor on grp1 and pan grp1 straight to center. The channel you want to route to grp1 has to be panned accordingly. e.g. full left for grp1, full right for grp2,...

    Great vids and very useful infomation/ideas/influences!
    I would love to see a video how the AD/DA converter is set up, both in the DAW and its own sowftware (in this case the Presonus Universal Control).
    And also where to monitor while tracking, avoiding latency and stuff like that.
    Keep up the good work!

    Thank you for this! I only just upgraded to a mid sized studio console from a Mackie 1604. I currently mix in the DAW and am trying to figure out the best routing for groups and the master buss on this larger system. Would it be normal to use the group buss as a set of inputs to a soundcard (thus routing any channel to a group at the tracking stage) or is it really best used as a multi out? I'm a bit overwhelmed by the options I now have. I *imagined* that I would still mix in the box to stereo out but clearly there are more directions one could take. Is there a 'standard'? Thank you for any insight!

    • @ZedMartyProduction
      @ZedMartyProduction  4 роки тому

      Well there are no rules and everyone has his own work flow. I usually record directly to the DAW and bring the tracks out to the channels of the console when mixing. For live band recordings I would record through the console into the DAW via the direct outputs. So each instrument has its own track.
      As far as mixing goes, all tracks come to individual channels on the console and are summed through the various groups to the Master Bus.

      All FX is on Aux sends and come back to channels. e.g Aux 1 Send -> FX In, FX Out -> Channel Line Input or Stereo Return.

      I have a video about that: ua-cam.com/video/I0216kwwCmg/v-deo.html

    Hi!
    I have just started hybrid mixing using a A&H gl2400 and I also have 3 presonus firestudio projects. My question is how do you use itb fx as I noticed you had that on one channel? When I first set up I tried using sends in my daw (studio one) but that didn't work with all the latency when using higher buffers on the converters.

    • @ZedMartyProduction
      @ZedMartyProduction  5 років тому

      Hi! I use Logic and send the individual sends on 2 outputs of the Firestudio to the desk. But I don‘t have any latency issues as you describe.
      It is basically the same as sending other tracks of the DAW to the mixer.

    • @fredrikstennabba
      @fredrikstennabba 5 років тому

      I see, what buffer size do you use on the firestudios? I have always gone witg max while mixing and that is 2048 for me and that is giving alot of latency. But as I have been mixing itb, it haven't been an issue until now as I go outboard.

    • @ZedMartyProduction
      @ZedMartyProduction  5 років тому

      I use 1024 for mixing and 32 or 64 when recording. But when mixing, latency should be no problem since all tracks go out at the same time to the mixer. It does not matter if there‘s a higher round trip latency since you don‘t record anything.

    • @fredrikstennabba
      @fredrikstennabba 5 років тому

      Thanks for the answers, I need to dig deeper into this and experiment.

    • @fredrikstennabba
      @fredrikstennabba 5 років тому

      Oh now I get it! I do record main left and right back into my daw, that's where the latency comes from when I run the buffer on 2048. Do you print your mix to another medium or how do you have that set up?
