01:16 Use Shadowheart and change her spells to allow the use of Command, use Command: Drop on the demon and he will drop the sword Everburn. Have another character there to pick it up before his next turn. This makes him defenseless and easy to kill, and you have the sword as well. 07:40 If you do not wish to rescue Volo, you can pickpocket him when in the cut scene with a different character to obtain the ring he has. 10:30 If you use Speak with Animals during the Owlbear it will allow you to leave. Come back and it will be dead. This allows the matter to progress where the baby is captured by the goblins. You can obtain the cub when in their camp. 22:40 If you go the other direction and smash the brick wall out it will land on the Duergar and kill them saving the animals instead. 27:45 during the cutscene with the Gith if you bring Liz'el you can use another character out of the cutscene and command the boss to drop the sword, pick it up and walk off before the cut scene is over. Pretty much every major quest has at least 2 ways to complete them. No aggro no issues.
Gonna add to the gith sword. Recent hotfix made it so that if you enter a conversation with the gith, everyone in the group gets put into the conversation, even if they are super far away or in camp. HOWEVER. You can still make Voss drop the gith sword if you use disarm or command: drop without triggering the conversation. However it will cause him to immediately leave and will cause all the gith (Including Lae'zel if shes present) to become hostile. If you're sneaky, you can try to grab the sword without fighting. However, the person who initially disarmed Voss, (in my case it was shadowheart) whenever that person is in combat, the game will for some reason, also put the gith fighters into combat with you. So if you are in the underdark, fighting minotaurs, if the person who disarmed voss is also fighting the minotaurs with you, those githyanki up on the bridge will be in combat. So the game will hilariously swtich back and forth between whatever it is your fighting, to the githyanki who are just wandering around and jumping. Funny, but also annoying because this is a turn based game. You can solve this issue two ways: 1. dont use the npc that disarmed voss in combat. So that means, I can't use shadowheart. (worst option) 2. Kill the githyanki (best option) Also, if you give the sword to Lae'zel, she will spout Act III spoilers. So I don't recommend anyone on their 1st playthrough to do this, or at the very least, dont give Lae'zel the sword.
With the Owlbear cub, I didn't kill the mother, but I did interact with the mother. I did a few other things and long rested, then found the Owlbear cub in the goblin camp. Just wanted to share an alternative to getting the cub.
Yeah I think as long as you interact with it it should trigger, if you don't kill it then come back later the owlbear will have been killed by goblins.
I killed the mother. Found it at the goblin camp and let it get my scent. It said I had to deal with Goblins before it could follow. Then I killed the goblins inside the main building freed Halsin then fast traveled out, long rested, then came back and killed the Goblins in the surrounding area…Owlbear never came to my camp…think I had to deal with the goblins who owned it before killing the leaders

For that first fight there's an even easier way to do it. Grab those 3 purple jars from the left of the screen and place them near the devil. Pull everyone back a decent amount and hit it with a flame cantrip. You can take them both out without risking your own hide or the adds.
I just DL'd the game yesterday, and I've watched 5 other "things to do/not miss in the early game". Mostly they gave the same info. This one, on the other hand, had tips no one else mentioned. And a lot of them were really good tips, too! Thanks!
Minor detail but if you have speak with animals you can actually ally with the deep rothe against the duergar at the rubble. My first playthrough has been as a ranger and honestly the animal interactions are some of the best parts of the game.
one thing to note: if you go through that whole line of traps in the underdark forge area and get to the very end, that little room with the flaming gargoyle also has a statue of Shar which you can give to Shadowheart.

For the adamantine forge there is also a spot right next to the cave-in that the Gnome slaves are digging out to release Nere that you can misty step up to. It puts you right next to the waypoint for the forge as well. This allows you to skip basically all of the tricky traps and fights.

You can easily get the Everburn Blade without even fighting the demon commander. Shadowheart has the Command spell, prepare it before entering the Helm and tell the demon to drop his weapon
Anything except wild magic sorcerer as far as I've tested can learn it. You need to use specific dialogue in the area before you enter the mirror then talk again after going through the mirror.
There's also a small chest on the pillar just beyond the tiefling bard you can lockpick to get a hat that gives you temporary HP when using Bardic Inspiration (I think that's the effect). Decent early hat for Bards, decent vendor trash for non-Bards. Literally just walk about 5 steps past her and it's sitting there waiting to be looted.
The Silver Sword deserves a HUGE disclaimer. Killing the githyanki group for Kith’rak’s sword has MASSIVE long-term implications for Lae’zel’s personal quest line that extend well into the end of Act 3. IMO story-wise, it’s a regrettable mistake to metagame and secure the Silver Sword in Act 1 on any player’s first run. It’s not a trinket to mindlessly obtain like the Everburn Blade. That said, if you know the price of taking the sword early and are willing to pay it…player’s choice. Go for it.
really good summary, one tip for the underdark trap part: use astarion to disable all traps, or turn on turn based mode, to just run past everything, without the traps constantly firing at you.
One thing that helps when killing the demon for the Everburn Blade is to move those glowing purple tanks in the room over to him. If you just run near them, it doesn't take an action to click and drag them along the floor. Stack the three of them up around him and the Mind Flayer while they fight, then go about the rest of your business. When he gets low on health, have Shadowheart use Firebolt on one of the tanks and they will explode, probably taking the Mind Flayer out at the same time. Also, pick up all of the Bulbs you find laying around the Nautiloid and from looting Mind Flayers. There are a few in the boss room if you have time to grab them. Especially Void Bulbs, they can be very useful all through the game and there are only a few chances to find them. The Loviatar buff - the Performance option is the sure way to get it if you don't have any class dialogue option. Also, if the character ever fully dies they'll lose the buff for good.
@@michabanasiak2073 I was more talking about how to take out the Mind Flayer at the same time, since he will turn on you after all the demons are dead.
@@jameshill2450 well MF hp is like half of the Commander. You can try containers but need to time it right to explode when Commander is far below half of hp. I was trying this and usually killing MF alone just too soon :D
Shadowheart is actually THE MOST useful in earliest "End Stage" of the Nautiloid, when trying to get the Everburn Blade, she can simply use the spell, Command:Drop on the boss Devil, when he's stunned by a few attacks by your other characters, and at 70% has a much higher chance he'll drop his ONLY weapon, you can then pickup and use it to kill the Mind Flayer and him with relative ease.
The Adamantine Forge; You dont need to go through the whole convoluted series of platforms and traps. You can get to the spot where the forge waypoint is from where Nere and Co are at, just go to the spot on the eastern edge across the planks over the lava and use jump/mistystep spells to get to the other side.
Yea laezel even has the mystic leap ability. The only reason to go further back is there a statue of shar to pick up (might be useful for shadowheart and a few more extra molds
The Everburning Blade is basically just a regular greatsword that is always dipped in fire. You can achieve the equivalent of this weapon by putting a lit candle down and using the Dip bonus action to buff your weapon. Now, obviously it's nice to save your bonus action if you're a class like barbarian who might start the fight out in a rage, but if you do it before starting the fight, it's the same thing
@@gregoryhedges9989 the weapon itself doesn't add any extra damage, but paladin has features and spells that increase weapon damage/deals radiant damage to their weapons.
Some of the best buffs in this game come from what many would call horrible choices. Edit: Performance can be useful. Especially when you want to reposition mobs so they don't have LOS on that five finger discounting you're about to engage in.
Volo's Ersatz Eye might sound useful, but if you don't let him lobotomize you, he will instead remain the entire time (until act 3 at least) at your camp. That makes him the most easily accessible merchant in the game. In case you don't know: A long rest and a level-up both reset merchants' inventories. Given that all your unused party members and your resting spot is in camp, a merchant in camp is very useful. Get him to 100 attitude early (lower level means you need to donate less). And dump your stuff with him. Depending on how much of a Loot Goblin you are, this might not be enough, but it's much more handy than a bit of counter invisibility.
Can't you ust pickpocket the Ersatz Eye out of Volo's pocket? Or is it not there? I'm pretty sure you can use it on yourself if you have it, no eye removal from Volo needed?
"might sound useful?" The eye is incredibly useful, esp fighting the dark iron dwarves. You can always just find a merchant, go to camp, raid chest and port back to the merchant, if you need to sell stuff.
People may not realize this yet, but Voss uses teleport to mount the dragon and fly off. If you pop a silence bubble on him and hold person Voss cannot escape. You could potentially kill Voss early with enough burst damage.
You forgot one huge part for act 1 which is the Necronomicon that you can find in the potion shop of the goblin infected town ruins. Not long after you can interact with it and get a permanent bonus on wisdom saving thows and if you are a class that is got magic, you can even get a permanent +1 on wisdom! Oh! And on the way you also can get a summoned companion too! You have to summon him with a scroll and I think if you want him permanent you need to learn the scroll though-

At the forge area if you talk to the cows and persuade them to break the rubble the guys will turn on you and fight, but this time the cows will help you out making it quick work. You have to initially tell the guy to let you try whipping them
There is a nice 2-handed hammer in the burning inn, where the man is stuck in the far side of the room. It does thunder damage when you jump. You can get back there later when the inn is no longer burning. It is better to have against the Adamantine Forge boss
You can kill the adamant fort boss with 2 hammer strike from the forge itself, all you need is to lure the guy there (while overheated) which isn't hard at all because it always goes toward the last guy hit it.
I just did this fight! My sorcerer twin cast enlarge on Laezel and Karlach, who both had hammers along with support spells from Shadowheart, and they just went to town and almost killed him in a single turn
The most efficient way to get the sword at the beginning is have shadow heart or if you have it, use the spell command and command him to drop the sword.
You can skip the traps and the duergar interaction going to the adamantine forge. There’s a small area just before where Nere is trapped where there are two Duergar speaking. You’ll see a chest on the left. If you jump across to get the chest you can climb up above and get to the second lift control panel and use it to bypass the entire trapped area.
i misty stepped my way up there when i first got to the area and then spent WAY to long exploring the area trying to figure out how i was actually supposed to get there lol
3 things with the ever burning blade. 1 u should make him drop it with command. 2 once his health gets low you can blow up the purple tanks around the room to kill both the demon and mindflayer simultaneously (which you should for 150exp which makes you level 2 as soon as you leave the ship). 3 pick up the large chests around the ship and use them to block hallway before the final room. If done correctly the cambion reinforcements won't be able to get past them making the fight much less risky.

You missed some items... a crown that changes the Int stat to 17 for the one that wears it that is dropped by the smart ogre in the 1st goblin camp. this is op because you can build a wizard with only 8 int and redistribute points elsewhere then get the crown and also have 17 int. There is a helm for shadowheart or cleric or paladins if you go through a door in the goblin priestess chambers that leads to an abandoned chapel with an ogre...solve the puzzle to find a secret entrance to the underdark and in a chest down there you will find the helm without needing to fight anything actually down there. I will add more here when I have more time...
Non-wizards don't need 17 int. Wizards aren't happy with a fixed 17 int because by the time you meet the ogres, you are probably close to level 4, which means you will have 19 int (20 if you've dealt with Ethel). The only real need for the item is if you know ahead of time that a hard Religion/Arcana check will come up, you can push your stats with it. But it's an absolute edge case.
@@DrZaius3141also useful for an arcane trickster or an eldritch knight. It'll allow you to focus on their physical stats, that they need more, but give a halfway decent boost to the spell dc's.
@@DrZaius3141 actually it is great for a pretty significant amount of multiclass builds as like I previously mentioned it allows you to have extra points to assign where you please without really sacrificing your wizards usefulness for very long, and as long as you plan on maining a different stat other than int you are golden. basically as long as you are not trying to min/max a wizard build you have a ton of additional options.
Also something for new players when you run across three ogres in blighted village DO NOT kill them. Instead have them betray the Goblins and they will give you a horn that lets you summon them to battle at the cost of 1000 coins OR you can go to another way point immediately after the battle is over to skip paying them.
You might still want to kill (or is stealing a possibility?) the one with the hat that can bring your Intellegence all the way up to 17, which is insane, especially when it's 8 before. It definetly will help you out through a long time and can be great in multiplayer where you can't just add bonuses all the time.

I always thought Volo was like Auntie Ethel or Raphael with a debuff for accepting their offer. I wonder if you can get a companion to get Volo's surgery. Mostly because I want to see Wyll lose his sending stone or his other eye for funsies.
Wyll can't accept Volo's offer, saying he only has one good eye left. You also can't take Volo's offer if you accept Ethel's, for the same reason, and you cant take Ethel's eye if you took Volo's. You can, though, totally force your other companions to take Volo's eye. I made Astarion take it because I didn't want to mess up my aesthetic but couldn't care less about how goofy Astarion looks.
Honestly, I'd feel bad giving it to anyone else since you have to suffer to get it (even if you get to see invisible creatures). Except Gale, but I don't use him in my party.
Astarion seems a good choice, as you will almost always have him with you. Since he is doing a lot of the exploring and combat initiations. In my playthrough I gave it to Laezel, but then kept her in camp for large swaths, and in Act III she got taken away by Orin… - and silly me gave Karlach the permanent 2 STR buff in Act II and then ended up with her in camp for most of act III… So many things to do differently in another playthrough. Edit: I was playing Wyll as Origins Character. Couldn’t put it on him, as somebody already remarked.
I'm proud of myself because I'm like 85% done with act 1 and I've done most of these without being in any reddit, it's just me exploring the game :) I also don't play games like this so I was going in fully blind to anything like bg3.
After the last patch it's nearly impossible to kill the devil for the everburn blade, at least in hard mode. You have to get lucky and have someone command him to drop the weapon.
You covered a lot of the stuff rarely mentioned by others (Especially the tiefling bard) and were relatively quick about it on the individual scale, that's appreciated. Do you by chance know if the owlbear and ersatz eye can still be gotten in the mountain pass if one enters it after the underdark & forge? (In the case of the owlbear, I'm just waiting for the last camp cutscene)
As long as you did not start the surgery and stop it in the middle, I am pretty sure you can get the eye until Act 3. I am not so sure about the Owlbear though. For me, the Owlbear joined me in the Underdark but that is part of Act 1. I'd say as long as you got the previous camp cutscenes, you will eventually get the last one to have him join you.
I've learned of the existence of the Owlbear cub when I was already in the middle of Act 2. Got back in act 1, killed the mother, and the cub showed up itself in my camp next time I rested. So yeah, you can even start the event when you have technically finished act 1 and already wiped all the goblins, it works.
for the first tip, the everburn blade, make sure to pick up all the nautiloid tanks (there are 4 in total on the ship) and just place them next to the enemies, blow it up when they are at about 40 hp and both of them will be dealt with, pick up the blade and get off the ship

@@irecordwithaphone1856 my bad that's not how I meant to come off ! What I meant is that in most community's you see a lot of gatekeeping when younger people get into something , and I was saying it's refreshing that that ISN'T the case this time around. 🧙♂️
You can solve this issue two ways:
1. dont use the npc that disarmed voss in combat. So that means, I can't use shadowheart. (worst option)
2. Kill the githyanki (best option)
Also, if you give the sword to Lae'zel, she will spout Act III spoilers. So I don't recommend anyone on their 1st playthrough to do this, or at the very least, dont give Lae'zel the sword.
@@Xantexhunterjust get a hireling to make voss drop it, no pressure. You can always resurrect it.

I cleared out the whole goblin camp before interacting with the owlbears. The cub showed up in my camp anyways.
I kill both the mom and the cub 😢😢😢😢
@@elguapobandito2833It's weird, I didn't killed the mother but did the rest the same way as you, killed everybody inside, and went back to kill the goblins in the surrounding area after several long rest and at least 1 fast travel, and the owlbear showed up at my camp. The only thing different is that I interacted with the owlbear only after I killed the goblins in the surrounding area

For the everburn blade just prepare command on Shadowheart and tell him to drop it in round 1, pick it up and leave by turn 4, no need to even fight him.

I got no bard. So it was Gale's meal
Go for it.

Great video. Thanks. Everything on point and no big spoilers.
You can just SH command him to drop his weapon, take it and then his damage is just too low to be problem to MF
@@michabanasiak2073 I was more talking about how to take out the Mind Flayer at the same time, since he will turn on you after all the demons are dead.

I love these tips and the way you present them without spoiling them if there's additional content there. Great stuff!! Thanks!!
That's how I did it. Honestly had no clue the other option was even viable.
It also gets outclassed pretty soon too. But it's still pretty cool to have nonetheless.
Gale can eat it, if necessary
Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t a palidin allow you to add radiant damage on top of the fire damage?
@@gregoryhedges9989 yes. Paladin smites stack on top of any damage the weapon already does on its own
@@gregoryhedges9989 the weapon itself doesn't add any extra damage, but paladin has features and spells that increase weapon damage/deals radiant damage to their weapons.

Easily accessible merchant, if he (and the wither) hasn’t been bugged for me
"might sound useful?" The eye is incredibly useful, esp fighting the dark iron dwarves. You can always just find a merchant, go to camp, raid chest and port back to the merchant, if you need to sell stuff.
i missed so many of these that you have convinced me to do a second playthrough! great vid!
People may not realize this yet, but Voss uses teleport to mount the dragon and fly off. If you pop a silence bubble on him and hold person Voss cannot escape. You could potentially kill Voss early with enough burst damage.

My guy.im new playing bg3. I've been searching for good tips on bg3 and you are the best one so far.
Nice one.
This was one of the most informative BG3 vids I've ever seen. Thanks
The harpies lead to a quest rewarding one of the best passive rings in the game

@ThomBaws forgot the name buts it's a +1AC +1 save, it's just like a cloak you get later I believe but imo it's better than 99% of the rings that have some spell I'm never using.
You are amazing bro! thx for the video, looks like I didn't know a lot and missed a lot...time to start a new journey
Dude i missed almost all of this, including the sword lol. Thanks for the video.

Shadowheart isn't usless in the nautiloid battle in fact she is probably the most useful. Swap one of her spells with command and get the dude to just drop the sword. Easier if you don't want to fight or farm for the xp.
He should also do way less damage without the sword, so he'd be way easier to kill.
That and you can use her cantrips to buff the mind flayer so you actually stand a chance on higher difficulties.
This was incredibly helpful! I hope you continue to make more videos like this for BG3 or other games. Thanks so much!
In my playthrough I gave it to Laezel, but then kept her in camp for large swaths, and in Act III she got taken away by Orin… - and silly me gave Karlach the permanent 2 STR buff in Act II and then ended up with her in camp for most of act III…
So many things to do differently in another playthrough.

Solid video man. Love that you asked for 30 likes to do an act 2 video and you are currently at 3.6 k likes. Saw another video recently that talks about do a sneak and disarm on the Githaynki for the sword. Fun stuff
I didn't know about learning an instrument haha, thanks, I'll make sure to do that from now on.
I stopped my first playthrough because the stuttering and lag in the city was so awful despite my PC being an absolute beast. Turns out wasn't so bad, because I discovered a LOT of what you talk about here. But, I still missed some of the things you talk about, so thank you! I love this damn game.
Thanks a million brother. It’s really troubling when you miss out on amazing things in games because they are so well hidden or you miss out because of simple dialogue options that you were not even aware that a great reward is at stake. It’s almost as if developers don’t want you to have these rewards. The best dagger in Divinity Original Sin 2 is free for the taking but it’s hidden in an unassuming place almost no one would ever look. Keep these coming and please do the other Acts also and as spoiler free as possible 👍
Love this game, their does need more tutorials, its kinda difficult to understand the combat for new players though, but so worth it.
Basically speaking I’ve liked and subscribed
