I recorded this before I learned about the hidden DLC scaling mechanic that occurs after defeating the final boss. Of course, I'm disappointed with this design choice since it means that the remaining bosses I was most eager to fight will be a waste of time until I clear the DLC and enter the next NG+ cycle. If I don't post for a while, that's what I'm working on.
@@sacrosblid Basically, the DLC gets its own NG+ scaling on top of the current NG+ cycle. Also, it's not reflected by the rune amounts that you get from defeating the bosses either. Supposedly, some bosses like this one and Romina only get ~7.89% more HP, while the Dancing Lion gets over 51% extra HP.
@@scootboot69420 supposedly beating Radahn makes everything in the DLC have more HP (except Bayle for some reason) in the next NG+ cycle even if you are already on NG+7.
Oh, for sure. I could go on for hours about how terrible this boss is, but I was very stoked to fight it because of how interesting it seemed. And I have to say, it's not like I'm raging at these games anymore. No matter how poorly designed some of these bosses are, I'm a lot more open-minded trying to understand what they were going for with these types of encounters. However, with this boss, I'm just always drawing a blank trying to understand what they were actually thinking. It's like, the more I play it, the more it reveals new ways to disappoint me for giving it the slightest amount of respect. I was going to post the DLC+ version of the fight soon, which is a lot faster with my new strategy, but I'm still not content with it because her AI is so bad. I keep trying to come up with new ways to make the flow of the fight better, but there isn't much more I can do with it, so I guess you'll probably see the next round of this complete doo doo boss soon. Sorry for the rant lol.
@@Dargonsouls no worries lol, i totally understand the pain. I for one also do not understand what they were going for with this boss, for a dlc with a very consistent high quality boss roster, a boss this poorly designed is frankly baffling
@@HavokGeometryDash Yeah, exactly. It should be basically impossible for them to design a boss this bad at this point, yet this manages to exist. And yeah, the other bosses, even those with questionable design elements, all have at least something going for them, and they are generally very high quality. The only boss I can still say anything bad about is Radahn, but less so now that they patched him.
Another impressive challenge kill. What I like about your SL1 vids is you’re probably one of the best at triggering specific boss attack loops. You are always in control of the fights from beginning to end, I think your Elfride kill is one of the best demonstrations. Thanks for publishing this.
Thank you so much. I always strive to master the AI to keep control of the bosses and make the strategies more accessible, which reflects what I think is so uniquely good about these games.
@@Dargonsouls We had a discussion once before about CE and if I remember right you didn't use it, correct? If that is the case then this is 1000x more impressive and you are a living legend! Thanks!
@@BBQcheeseIndeed, I don't use CE, and I never bothered to. I'm so used to playing on console that I figure I might as well remain a purist, lol. That said, I wasn't the first to discover this strategy as the player Scolopendra had done these restrictions and even a +0 fight before me, but I still try to discover and refine things for myself. I haven't seen other players play aggressively in P2 after the laser either, so that's why I wanted to post this.
very nicely done. I’m currently doing a pretty strict RL1 myself, and was curious if there was a way to do this fight without AoW’s consistently. so, I’ll probably try to imitate this strategy to some extent, and hopefully not get fucked over by her adds. thanks for posting this so that people like me have a reference for what’s possible now! 👍🏻
Thanks! I hope it will be helpful when you do this fight on your run. I see you've already gotten Bayle down, and he's surprisingly one of the tougher encounters because of the wonky flame breath. I think the adds are passive enough that it shouldn't be much of a problem, and the strategy is indeed very consistent. I will say though that her AI seems to bug out when the creepers are nearby, so you really have to lure her away consistently to make sure she hops away to create some distance. I even had a fight under these same restrictions where she didn't use the big laser at all.
@@Dargonsouls Yeah, Bayle was kinda tricky, but he was super fun! After throwing some attempts at Metyr, I gotta ask, did you have a way of determining where the arena borders are before you approach the walls? I've ran into a lot of scenarios where I can't even attempt the laser dodge because the border is too close, and laser extends out of bounds.
@@bopsiThat's the one thing that's hardest to convey since I mostly just have a feel for luring her around the middle of the arena. Although, before you trigger the boss, you can set waypoints around the edges of the arena, and with some practice you can get a sense of where the dead fingers are relative to the edges of the arena as well. Good luck, and thanks again for your comment.
@@Dargonsouls I'll see if I can get a sixth sense for the arena size. Thanks a lot for your help, man! I was really considering skipping this fight until I saw your video lol.
@@bopsi No problem man. This boss was at the bottom of my list too until I got the hang of this strat. I hope you get her down soon. Also, this player has a very long endurance fight with the waypoints set around the edge of the arena, so maybe you can get more of the gist from that: ua-cam.com/video/XdvA-bTbNmQ/v-deo.html
I didn't like how many of the bosses ''special'' attacks in this dlc, can reliably be dodged just by running away on the map instead of accurate timing and rolling. From has certainly prioritized spectacularity over technicality with this event horizon attack, in my opinion. GG anyway!
Same, I don't like that the special move basically forces you to run away. It's like they wanted to train players to run away from things as a default strategy, but that style of play is less fun. And thanks, I had fun figuring this boss out.
@@Dargonsouls I think it's probably caused by the mentality the developers had during the creation of these DLC bosses; some attacks seem to punish technical strategies because of all the AOE damage and the crazy (sometimes flawed) hitboxes these bosses have. Most fights share this characteristic, even Messer, who is one of the best bosses in the DLC. I was having troubles on ng+7 with his special attack (the one in 2nd phase, where he summons giant AOE damage with multiple snake attacks), and rolling each of his snake attacks was getting pretty hard; then I applied the same strategy based on just running away from him with some back-rolling, and he never hit me again with that attack.
So basically you play at range until she does the laser then you're free to go back in for a minute while it's on cool down? Doesn't actually seem that bad... Maybe this boss isn't as cancer as I thought...🤷♂️
Oh, it's still cancer, but at least it's consistent. I rate it as an F- tier. FromSoftware obviously didn't have an answer for the big beam attack that fit within the core mechanics, but I still oddly enjoy this boss.
