Even though they were an amazing team, being that that they worked together for 25 years, friends or not, she should have at least told him before he heard about the show and called her. It's the least she could have done instead of him finding out the way he did. That would have been more honorable. It's Hollywood, they move people and rebrand. But if you have a working relationship being they knew each other before Hollywood, she should have told him that her brand was going in a new direction. That's all.
Glad to see her back but, shame on her for dumping Byrd! She didn't even let him know that she was dumping him and giving him an option of accepting less pay for this new show. Shame shame shame on her!

Actually Byrd was never forgotten. Judge Judy extended the offer for him to come to her new show but Byrd declined stating he would like to Pursue other endeavors. She respectfully accepted that and went on to choose her new Bailiff who has actually been on Judge Judy but as her security.
I adored (past tense!) Judge Judy. She should be ashamed of the way she treated Byrd. Her behavior is reprehensible. Byrd was a very key component to her show. Shame on her. I will NOT watch her new show. So sad to learn one of your favorite "stars" turn out to be heartless.

I think she made a big mistake when she dumped Byrd. She told him that he had priced himself out of a job. Your true true character is based on how you treat others. How she treated Byrd is a mark on her character. He helped make her old show, then to just dump him is shameful. I think everyone liked Byrd and the banter between the two. I was also disappointed she dumped him. People like her because of her common sense and her moral compass. That being said, her decision to not include her friend and side kick did not reflect well of her.

In a offhand kind of way she did (4:43 marker). She spoke of the new baliff and how he was her security during the original show. After watching this interview, I believe the reason she chose this new guy is because he is armed. She mentioned about "feeling totally protected". Agree with you. I always loved, and admired her. I used to joke and say to my family "I hope Judge Judy were Prime Minister", but now, she's a huge disappointment after what she did to BYRD. I wish people would actually do research before they just talk about things that they don't really know about. We're on the internet for goodness sake. Judge Judy needed to change up the format of the show just enough so that CBS or whoever owns the current catalog of the Old judge Judy show, could not sue her because the shows are too similar. That's the reason why she needed to not take Byrd on this show as well. To try and make matters right she had initially offered the job to Bryd's wife, that way she would be the bailiff on this new show and the job would remain in his family. However, at the time that offer was made to her his wife was ill and was unable to take it. And they were already starting to shoot the show so unfortunately that couldn't wait. It really is that simple and while it's very sad that he wasn't able to come across to the show I totally understand. There's nothing that she could have done. She has to protect her own interests and she did make an attempt to at least keep things in his family it just wasn't to be.

I just watched two episodes using my iPad. I don’t watch American tv because I got fed up with it’s mediocrity and bias. I watch programs that have subtitles from other countries instead. Not nearly as plastic and fake. Her “guests” are real and often hilariously ignorant and entitled.

I think she made a big mistake when she dumped Byrd. She told him that he had priced himself out of a job. I would be more in sympathy with what she said if I didn't know how many hundreds of millions of dollars she is worth. She could pay Byrd's salary out of her own pocket and still have more money left than my 100 closest friends and I will see in our lifetimes. I don't think I'll be watching her any more. Greed is not a pretty sight.

This clip makes her more real. She's not all makeup and raised brows, she's simply now aging with grace. It's good to see her realistically. I’ve been watching Judge for years and I still find it one of the best tv shows on earth. But I have to tell that I am very disappointed and sorry! The way Byrd was dumped was a reason to be ashamed of. I don’t think I will ever watch this show again. Shame Judy Sheindlin!!
I think everyone liked Byrd and the banter between the two. I was also disappointed she dumped him.
People like her because of her common sense and her moral compass. That being said, her decision to not include her friend and side kick did not reflect well of her.

After watching this interview, I believe the reason she chose this new guy is because he is armed. She mentioned about "feeling totally protected". I won't be a fan of the new show without Byrd. I love Judge Judy but I love Byrd also. I can't believe she more or less brushed him under the rug. Everyone knows that not all things are about money. Agree with you. I always loved, and admired her. I used to joke and say to my family "I hope Judge Judy were Prime Minister", but now, she's a huge disappointment after what she did to BYRD. How can't she realise that BYRD was loved by all who watched her programme? I can't imagine the show without BYRD, it doesn't make sense. The new show hasn't been advertised yet in Europe, but if it comes here, I won't watch it.

As much as I like Judge Judy, I can no longer support her. I’m certain she does not care nor will she be offended. I have watch her show for 25 yrs+. It was disappointing to be informed that Byrd will no longer be a part of her show. Why would the network break what’s not broken. I believe his story when he said there was no communication from Network nor Judy. I will share his story with ALL my friends and encourage them to share with their friends. My intentions are to reduce the number of people who support the show. I’d prefer she has 10 followers & 3 likes.

I wish people would actually do research before they just talk about things that they don't really know about. We're on the internet for goodness sake.
Judge Judy needed to change up the format of the show just enough so that CBS or whoever owns the current catalog of the Old judge Judy show, could not sue her because the shows are too similar. That's the reason why she needed to not take Byrd on this show as well. To try and make matters right she had initially offered the job to Bryd's wife, that way she would be the bailiff on this new show and the job would remain in his family. However, at the time that offer was made to her his wife was ill and was unable to take it. And they were already starting to shoot the show so unfortunately that couldn't wait.
It really is that simple and while it's very sad that he wasn't able to come across to the show I totally understand. There's nothing that she could have done. She has to protect her own interests and she did make an attempt to at least keep things in his family it just wasn't to be.
She'd learnt some manners if she wanted to change the format.

I just watched two episodes using my iPad. I don’t watch American tv because I got fed up with it’s mediocrity and bias. I watch programs that have subtitles from other countries instead. Not nearly as plastic and fake. Her “guests” are real and often hilariously ignorant and entitled.

She's trying to make a new show, which means a new cast to appeal to new viewers. Byrd hasn't been contributing the same effort he used to for years. He just stands there and does crossword puzzles ignoring everything that's going on, barely ever cracking a joke, or a smile. You're shooting a t.v show for crying out loud. Show some energy.
And for all we know, this could go deeper than her starting a new show. Maybe she's just not addressing her issues with him publicly, because he has been her friend and co-worker for so many years. We have no idea what's going on behind the scenes. What we do know is that he's being pretty ungrateful about the whole thing, especially by complaining publicly about it, and not saying how he really felt to her face to give her a chance to respond. He went public with his response to a private phone call with a friend?! Weird.

Besides, JJ earns about 1 million dollars per week, why wouldn't she ask one million less per year, and leave them in the production's budget for others to earn, like Byrd, for example?
