Haha, yeah, that is exactly how I was feeling for a long time, too: the Tactile Turn pens are *so* well done that I just didn't feel a strong need for something else. I'm really glad I gave Autmog a shot! I also have a video coming up on another new, smaller pen company (the CamPen featured briefly in this video) that absolutely blew me away. I like its novel mechanism *so* much better than bolt-action pens. New favorite mechanism without a doubt.
I am so impressed with what Brian is doing here! I've already pre-ordered a new pen from him (he's just waiting to get the Ti in for the clips), and I cannot wait to have one back in hand!
Great review, I'll check this one out. I'm curious: since the release mechanism is on the side, why not make the click cap flush with the body while in writing mode?
@@KnifeNerdery I am trying out different machined pens recently, and USG Tiscribe is my current favorite. Campen is probably my next purchase, so I can't wait to see your review and comparison!
Yeah, that's probably something I should have highlighted more in the video: how different drops support different refill types. I wish he had done a full-Ti version of that limited Pentel Energel 0.3mm insert run he did -- I love that refill! Maybe he'll do another drop of that with Ti clips once he gets the clip material in, but he said that was a pretty limited drop, so maybe not.
I had one last year, I found that the ball could have protruded a little more for me. Sold it as I realise I need a pocket clip. I bought the version with the pocket clip after that, but the aesthetic wasn't the same and I didn't really feel the vibe. Otherwise, a great pen.
Yeah, I think the lack of a pocket clip will be a deal breaker for a lot of folks, and I've noticed that he's almost exclusively released pocket clip versions recently.
Finally a pen made by an OCD guy reviewed by another guy with OCD. Already bought mine, was a no-brainer. Also, he's making them for EnerGels-- FINALLY SOMEONE DID IT!
🤣😅 Yeah, it's fair to say my brain obsesses over some pretty tiny details. And yeah! I love that he makes versions that will fit the EnerGel tips snugly!
Awesome detailed review! Much appreciated. When engineer meets minimalism and stationary :) How do you like the Autmog 36 pen now? Do you happen to know if it fits the new Uni One .38mm ink UMR38S or Signo .38? There is a clip version now but all models are sold out. The clipless version may be better to fit snug without catching on anything. I am waiting patiently for the next restock haha.
New drop of the 36 energel just now. $135, though. Signo refills usually fit into pens that take energels, but autmogs are only meant to fit one refill, so...
@@MS-rx8it No, I was on the checkout page about to pay, but he just responded that it doesn't fit the Signo (response at the end). I exclusively use the Uni one/Signo 207 ultra-micro 😥 I like the non-clip version a bit more as well so I can def wait and in no rush! If he can accommodate the Signo ink in the EnerGel model with minimal adjustments, I think he will open a whole new customer base. I wonder if there is a simple adapter solution that can also solve for the G2 pilot model. That way he can just streamline the product line if he decides to mass produce later on. But, he already sells out super quick, so demand is not an issue haha. "I just tested one and unfortunately it does not fit. The tip measures in at 0.0907" and the EnerGel tip measures in at 0.0901" it's actually kind of wild that it doesn't work."
That's too bad, but good thing he confirmed before you paid! If you hate tip wiggle and don't want a clip, take a look at TIJ pen. Aesthetics are similar to the stepped autmogs, but the click mechanism is unique and takes just about any refill you could want.
I thought I was one and done with my Tactile Turn. Now you have me window shopping.

A good looking pen. Always cool to find small batch hand made gear like this. Great review 👍

Yeah, he absolutely could have, so it must just be an aesthetic choice.
Thanks for the superb thorough breakdown
Definetely a classy pen. Looking forward to your Campen review!
Oh wow, thank you for reminding me!!! That got packed up in the move with everything else, and I totally forgot about it!

Man this was a great review. Would love to finally see that campen review or some other pen stuff
I've been meaning to do more pen stuff! I've got a ton of pens at this point, one from just about every major maker. Who would you want to see next?
Oh man all of them 😂 the campen, soulpen, Nottingham tactical, whatever you’re most excited about
@@gavinolivas7826 maybe I just need to do a huge side by side by side by side by side by side.
@@KnifeNerdery I think the machined pen community would be all about that!
Thanks for the review! I’ve been hoping for a Ti 36 step nose (Parker) to drop. 🤤🤞
