Leaving it set up is so helpful for me!! This is true even when it is a game that is easy to set up. Being a solo player it just makes it less daunting to be able to just sit down and play 💜
Hi Jesse, I watch Alex a lot but I haven't been watching you as much lately. I really enjoyed this one! Practical, and a couple of tips I had not thought of and want to try, especially 2 and 3. I've started doing set up the night before I'm going to play which is kind of no. 5.
Quack!! Welcome back! These are some great tips. I especially want to get a dedicated game table. Nothing fancy and expensive, just literally repurpose an old dining table. And random question for you since you mentioned Zombicide: do you happen to have anything for the fantasy series, Black Plague/Green Horde, that you’d consider parting with? I want to get some of the expansions without paying an arm and a leg haha, and I figured it couldn’t hurt to ask! Cheers!
While I don’t disagree with the leaving the phones out, I would like to pose a counter-argument. I have, on many occasions, had my phone during a game (primarily solo games) and there was some lack of clarity in the rules. So I just bring up my phone and go to bgg rules forums and usually find the answer to my rules question. Or if it’s not there, I post the question, and if the game is popular enough, I get a response back within a couple minutes. Additionally, I have a lot of anxiety especially when it comes to teaching games and it helps when I’m trying to play/teach my wife (gaming partner) and I’m looking through rulebooks and bgg threads to find the answer, she just hops on her phone until I’m ready and it doesn’t cause me additional stress of her just basically staring at me, waiting for a response. But I do agree it can be frustrating to have someone disengaged from a game and just lost in their phone when they are not actively taking their turn.
Me and my wife also avoided a few of our games because of too many expansions. We decided to go through them all and sold more than half of the expansions for a few of our games and suddenlyt they were fun playing again. Games don't really get that much better with loads of extra stuff.
The overcommit is hard. Had a boardgame day last weekend with two friends. I brought three games. The host has many games at his house. We just played dune Imperium twice and I'm not mad about it. Keep it simple

Good tip about the phone! The whole reason I got into board gaming is to spend less time on my phone 😊
It is critical.
Exactly. I play board games to not be infront of a screen, like I am all days otherwise.
