Is this like Jedi Mind Tricks? I've always found saying really confusing stuff will get an aggressor's mind tied up in knots. In hypnosis, it's called a transderivational search. Example: One night in Downtown Los Angeles a guy once demanded I give him my phone. I said no. Out came his knife. He said, "I don't know how you think this is going to go, but I'm getting that phone one way or another." I said, "Ok, as long as you promise to give it back before tomorrow because I really need it." I saw the confusion cross his face and knew his mind was locked up, then I slammed him in the jaw and ran with my phone.
That’s part of it for sure.‘it’s all a question of triggering the cognitive mind to get back online when an aggressor is getting hijacked by their amygdala.
