I've not had much luck with the bunching onions I've started. Going to try again. I started using Espoma fertilizer last year. I live across the street from a nursery that carries what seems ALL Espoma products EXCEPT the seed starting mix. I've asked them to carry it next year, as I had to go to the most expensive nursery in town to get my Espoma Seed Starter Mix! I told my local nursery they made me go to their competitor, so hopefully they listened ;). Most of what I am growing is doing quite well...and what isn't, well, I think it's the seeds not the starting mix. I definitely want to try some shallots too...thanks for the reminder! Smile and have a blessed day!
I was just thinking it's been a while since you've done a cooking demo - love those and make your turkey burgers with stuffing and craisins. Would love to see a weekly meal plan just for ideas. Always love all of your videos!
You can try to grow onions right now in a container if you don't have the land space, just start out with a few seeds or sets. The hard part for me was patience waiting for them grow but I've managed to learn to wait... lol.
I grew onions, garlic and potatoes for the first time last year. I loved it! I think I will grow all three all the time now. It’s so fun to cook with them. I have not grown onion from seed though, you’ve got me wanting to do that now. Thanks so much for sharing and inspiring all of us.
don't know where you live I'm in Washington state and start mime in January you will still get onions but if you want big onions I recommend starting earlier I think pretty much anywhere you are a little late but don't give up on them small onions are better than no onions and will taste fantastic good luck🧅
I might try planting onions this year, but I haven't had a lot of success with scallions and green onions in the past. Laura, when you take your grass pad out of the greenhouse - will you use the grass to patch those areas out near the Flower Shed that you identified last week?
I’m in So Cal, so not sure if this is helpful where you are, but I plant the green onion bottoms (leave abt. 3” of white) of my store-bought in my garden and voilà I have more green tops in no time! You can either pull the whole green onion, or harvest just the green. Perfect for Low FODMAP diets (no garlic, nor white parts of alliums - sniff )
Darn! I've been waiting for this video for months. 😢 I normally plant want you are planting in your videos to be okay on timing. I saw you mentioned onions on a update of seedlings review and I was like, when did she plant those....?? So I planted them last night. Oh well🤷🏾♀️ 6 weeks before my frost date. I guess we will see if it works😅
use the corner of a envelope and one of the tags to push your seeds out, much quicker and more controllable, plus you can see where they are placed great vid... miss my garden center having the wall of bulk, they now package them, but still cheeper than any where else
also, plant directly in the tray, for less waste of time and space, plus you can use a pencil or other tool to make rows, then cover all with soil and pat down. i use a dowl with a handle glued to it to push down for rows
Thank you for putting out great videos! I have a question - you use vermiculite when you start seeds . Can you use perlite instead? What are the benefits of both?
We stop trimming ours when they stop flopping. If we can get the seed trays outside in Feb and March, that's usually by the 3rd leaf. If they're indoors under the grow lights, they're weaker and continue to flop until their 4th or 5th leaf... and will probably be given a final trim at transplant time.
I ordered Espoma seed starter from Amazon because I see the great job they do for Laura!

Toss thin sliced red onion in jar, cover with vinegar, pop in fridge . Good for 2 weeks. Use in sandwiches
, salads slaws. Delish.

When i started my onions for the first time, i grew yhem in the covered dark. Well cardboard over top😊
I love the beginning of planting. Definitely jealous of your greenhouse. Those onions you grew are picture perfect!
I’ve never tried growing any produce other than jalapeños and tomatoes. Maybe I’ll try more things this fall.😊
Started mine today/ 3/29 wish me luck / walla walla , red, and bunching

So glad to see this! I will start mine!
You have such awesome information and excellent tips. Thank you
Gotta love that greenhouse! I have never successfully grown onions from seed. I am doing some winter sowing and I hope that changes.
Same here good luck!😅
Awesome video. I love it.
Great information and tips on planting onions

when do you stop trimming down the floppy onions before planting out in the garden?

How did I miss this video???
It’s on Espoma’s channel, not Garden Answer.
@@chrissihr1031 thank you I totally didn't look 😊
Are you starting onions later than normal or did I miss this video from before? Did I start my onions too early😂. I'm following your schedule
I'm wondering the same thing
It’s an Espoma video.
@@donnaborda what do you mean
She started hers earlier. This Espoma video is a duplicate from Garden Answer. They work together and it’s part of their agreement.
I've seen this before on Garden Answer, now per their agreement Espona is using it for their channel. Great for everyone involved.
" THANKS "
do you guys sell seeds online ???
What state are you located?
Seems strange to be this early in the comments
