I bought a Lancer Pacifica in 86. It was my first new car and cost about $16,750 out the door. The only option available was stick or auto. It was a cool little car, leather trimmed seats, 146 turbo horses. Served us well for about 14 yrs and 140,000 miles before it was totaled by a distracted driver. Still have a warm spot in my heart for them. Never saw another one on the road. Dodge came out with a Shelby version a year after we bought ours. Intercooled with about 176 horses. I was a little pissed.

We had the gold silver 86 ES with turbo engine and suspension , automatic, infinity sound system and digital dash we bought because Oldsmobile ciera wouldn't offer anything close in terms of price or discounts and Lancer ES was a better value after owning a pontiac phoenix and finding the 6000 ste was a next generation phoenix , we liked it but not round #2 in the shop or fighting recalls, loved the Lancer but the transmission went out and after replacing head gasket and head couldn't see spending more big money on it and some parts just stopped existing . This was in winter and our next car was not as good in snow or handle as well or was not as good with gas as Lancer. .We soon missed the hauling space with the lancer's rear seats down , Always loved the car and had a weakness for it too.and we found some parts just stopped existing. It served us real well and we loved it. It was close to a perfect car from versatility to power, handling and design , comfort, fuel economy and price/value as almost any car we have had in last 20 years and it was damn close to an AWD subaru in snow with wide rims, low tight center of gravity, front drive and the turbo delay from a stop[it made up for it on highway speeds with high hp/lb ratio] They were underrated and great cars.

Here's 1 for you. The 1 yr only 1992 Dodge Daytona Iroc Shelby. Shelbys had been around for awhile at Chrysler, but 92 was the last time a Daytona offered it. It was not a specific model, but an option package for the Iroc edition, available only with new high torque 2.5 T engine and HD 5 speed. That edition was only available in black, red or white. Interior colors were limited to black or gray. It came with a special suspension, maximum performance brakes, Y rated unidirectional tires, performance exhaust with dual tipped muffler, and if you ordered 1 with leather, you got the famous CS logo. We special ordered 1 in late 91, and didn't get it until the spring of 92! I have no good numbers on how many were produced. We had it for 10yrs before rust started to really get it, but it was a pretty trouble free car ( only the a/c failed, as did the radio) that got high 30s mpg on extended trips.

The Omni 024 was at its best when they turned it into a Shelby Charger. I test drove one back in the day, and it handled tight and the engine pulled pretty hard for a naturally aspirated 4 banger. It didn't hurt either that it looked cool AF.

  • @danielberning1240

Fun fact: I was selling at a Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep store in 2014 and I fondly recall the Sebring TSi. Sadly, it was much higher priced than the regular Sebring models, so the dealerships didn't want to stock them. I wanted one in the worst way, but couldn't justify the cost. The thing I liked the most was the genuine (real) wood on the dash. Very classy interior.
That De Tomaso is not something I've ever seen or hear of, but I bet a clean low miles one today would be worth a lot.

    • @ftffighter
      @ftffighter 16 днів тому

Same here, I admit it too.. the Sebring TSi just got the Sebrings looks RIGHT. It's the only Sebring model in my eyes that LOOKS special, but to be stuck with that cancerous 2.7L engine's 200HP in 2005 was just begging to be laughed at. The 2005(First year of the 5th Generation Mustang) V6 Mustang with it's SOHC 4.0L V6 made 210HP and at the time that wasn't even adequate when compared to it's competition. If I do recall, didn't the TSi's engine actually make a tad more power than the normal spec 2.7L? I thought the regular Sebring was only making 190HP.

Slight correction concerning the 2.7. I believe it generated 192 ft-lbs of torque, The 205 is from the 3.0 l Mitsubishi found in the Sebring coupe which shared nothing with the sedan.
I was familiar with the TSI trim on the Sebring since I was in college when it came out. It seemed like they wanted to make it a slightly more sporty trim for Chrysler but it really didn't make sense.

Loved my 1981 Dodge Omni 024....had the 2.2L 4 cyl and everything else was base model. Only had 33k miles when I got it in January 1985 for a cool $2800. Sadly, the previous owner had taught his 4 kids how to drive stick on my new ride....and by June 1985, the clutch cable snapped and then in September 1985, the clutch itself went out. I traded it in after only 14 months and 12k miles driven....and bought a cool 1985 Dodge Lancer with the....2.2L 4 cyl engine....but this time, I had the 3 speed automatic, AC, and I got AM/FM stereo cassette. LOL The Lancer was awesome the next 2 1/2 years and over 75k miles. My 85 Lancer had the column shifter, something not many got. Sorry to say I have not owned a Prowler yet, but I do have a 2001 Chrysler Sebring Convertible Limited in my garage, bought new, now has 120k miles on it. Guess I like weird cars? HAHA!!

The 1991 / 1992 Dodge Spirit R/T seems to never make a 90S list, sleeper car list, rare care list. At the time…..the stats were above mustangs and Camaros; pushing the edge of BMWs M5 at the time. Only about 2200 made and the aluminum heads (by Lotus) VERY frequently. It was an obnoxiously fast, heavy torque steering Monster.

Back in 2009, when I was at a Chrysler dealership getting my oil change and some one told me about the Chrysler Sebring TSi version I didn't think it was true until. I thought it would carry a 2.4L turbocharged inline 4 just like the Neon SRT4, Caliber SRT4, GT Cruiser, and the Mexico version Dodge Stratus 2.4L turbocharged inline 4. That would have been awesome and fun to drive with a manual transmission. But instead, they put the unreliable oil sludged 2.7 L V6 with a wimpy 200hp and 205 lb torque. Ha ha! This is awesome. Most, if not all Chrysler engines back then were made by Mitsubishi I think (could be wrong). They were so confusing and easy to mix up especially getting into the 024 or Eagle Talon, Eclipse etc. Sebring was the start of the fall for Chrysler after dropping a phenomenal LeBaron - I had a 90 then 92 convertible. My mom had the turbo 89 2 door coupe.94 Neon was my first brand new car and what a piece of junk. Traded for a 94 Miata with zero regret. Excellent video and great memories. Too bad the manufacturers no longer make fun and slightly different cars today. They're just some shade of grey and 4 door boring - unless you want to pay big bucks.

3:32 I have to admit that the basket-handle roof treatment makes the hideous 024 look, well, less hideous. 3:45 My Lancer was not a Pacifica, but someone might have called it "Arizonica". It had all the usual options, including power windows, locks, driver's seat, and mirrors, all for $10,999. BUT, it was lacking a rear defogger, suggesting that these cars (there were a bunch on the lot) were headed to some place too dry to need rear defogging. Who knows, maybe a deal with some Middle East sheikdom fell through.
PS: Another infamous abandoned b*stard-child car was the Chevrolet "Iraquabu", a lot of specially ordered Malibus with AC, rubber seats, 3-on-the-floor transmissions and very little else. They were sold off in Canada after a deal with Saddam Hussaine fell through.

I am curious as to what you look like as you share your gained knowledge and your voice talents. I noticed the more videos you do, the more confident you have become. I got behind on your videos because we were hit with a hurricane here in Texas. I read and saw the Capri for Ford in Europe. It shares its platform with Volkswagen. We live in a crossover and suv world. That is why Ford did it. The last Capri from Australia was not that successful.

I've owned an '85 Dodge Lancer, that I've bought back in '87. The car was GREAT, had very low miles, (don't remember how many). That car at times, would actually get 44mpg, with a 2.2 Ltr engine going from Yuma, Az, up to Northern California. The car was truely phenomenal up, until 70K miles, then it seemed to just FALL APART! It began to leak oil from the valve cover gasket, and oil pan gasket, then a power steering hose blew.. then the Idle speed sensor went "WACKO", and then because of the oil leaks, the TIMING BELT broke.......luckily, it was a "NON"-interference engine. finally got it all done, and then gave it to the X wifey, she wrecked it..................l

Nice job but one correction. Chrysler was still using their TorqueFlite 3-speed auto in the Lancer. The 4-speed Ultradrive didn't arrive until 1989. Also it was your typical mid-sized sedan for the 80s. I test-drove an 89 Shelby that had horrid turbo lag. It's replacement, the Spirit, was only interesting after it got the DOHC turbo engine in the R/T. As for the Capri...which one? The UK import first gen? The rebadged Mustang second? Or the Australian imported convertible third gen? I remember them all. And, no, I don't care for the ev version.

The Lancer Pacifica was almost my first car in '98. One was for sale in my neighborhood in Fresno but I was a little short. My dad offered to pay the difference the next day but it was too late. Got to save my money since my dad gave me one of his Magnums. So my first car was a 1979 Dodge Magnum GT 440. In my mind I was driving around in kool muscle car but everyone else just saw a land boat haha. Still was a fun and reliable car but lost it in 2005; parked at my divorced fathers house while out of town and my ex stepmom had the car towed out of spite. sadfacebro

Ford Capri. Originally a Mercury Capri. Do they make a 2-door Anything anymore besides the 'Vette?? Even the Mustang is available with 4 doors! Anyway, the BIGGEST Mistake Chrysler Ever made (ok, one of a few) was dropping the name LeBaron for Sebring. The LeBaron, especially the convertible, was one of The Biggest Chick Magnets Ever Built in America!!❤😊The Prowler was Plymouth's Hail Mary pass to draw attention to and try to save a division that had been filled with rebadges for years. Maybe decades! But it came at Least 5 years too late. Oldsmobile tried the same thing with the Aurora and the Intrigue. The Eagle Premier ES Limited with its amber turn signals and paper-white wheels is one of the MOST BEAUTIFUL Cars GOD EVER put on this Planet!!!!!❤❤I Hate it when a stateside Motor Division folds!! I miss ALL of 'Em!! Even Mercury! (The Grand Marquis is a fave amongst Chicago bad guys!!)😢😢😭😭And I'll Always remember the Dodge Lancer as one of several cars driven by the bad guys in Walter Hill's "Extreme Prejudice (1987)".❤

    Interesting video.
What is the car interior in the outro (10:37)?
The first generation Mercury Capri was based on the European Ford Capri, the second seems to be related to the Ford Mustang, and the third generation was apparently based on a Mazda. More importantly, none of them had four doors. I can understand that they want to introduce electric vehicles, but using the Capri name on a four door SUV is, in my not so humble opinion, sacrilege, and I'm not even particularly fond of Fords
