He was one of the best of my generation. We lost a lot of great artists from Gen-X to due drug addiction. It's heartbreaking. I find solace in Mitch's comedy and come back to his old comedy shows and watch them again. Rest in peace, Mitch.
Even late in his career he was like that, watching (or listening) the crowd go from "wtf is this guy..? talking about...???" to just absolutely slaying was a treat. I miss him :(
I wish I had more info but I recently seen one that was in the early stages like this one , ugh . I’ll try to get back cause I think it predates this .
This is how I remember Mitch, we shot Comedy on the Road together with John Byner..this same year...in Nashville, his character was developing, but not quite where he ended up...I remember his hair being longer than this...shortening the hair and added the sunglasses made a big difference. Great comedian. Great guy.
Hello Joby. You are right. There were glimpses of the character that was on the horizon. Glad to see the "I used to do drugs" joke. I saw him a few times back in those days then lost track of him for a few years. When I saw him again in about 1998 I could not believe how great he had become. He's one of the most original comedians of all time. Loved this video.
I thought I've seen most of his clips, but this was a first time since his early ones and I totally see his improvement on his later jokes. this one is also good tho. I wish he was alive now then make pandemic jokes.
@@marsstubblefieldhe wasn’t bombing at all. Audience was laughing and he got a good round of applause at the end of his set. What the hell is your definition of bombing?
This is earliest Mitch, and if he had been a sitcomwriter, would have been better than 90% I watch nothing twice except music videos and now, Mitch Hedberg.
He was so shy. It is sad that he never really knew how amazing he was. Wherever he is, I hope he is happy and can see how his work continues to bring people joy.
Is kinda interesting how he seems to be more "confident" in this early performance compared to the years after. Even his eyes, open and looking the audience in a relaxed way
Probably haven't hit that point in his life where The heroine was a huge Part of his life yet. I kind of get why he wears the glasses. Back when I used to smoke weed It just kept getting stronger and stronger quickly. And I would just get stuck on stupid mode. Till 1 day when I was at a ball game with my ex and her friends. And we smoke half a blood walking up to the stadium. I was like shit, why did I do that? I'm about to meet new people. Well, since it was a day game I happen to be wearing my sunglasses the whole time and it really helped me By not having to make direct Eye contact. And have them see my eyes just Be in a daze. At least for me It helped when I got too high and I wonder if it did the same for him
I love this dude, never got to see him b/c I never heard of him until after he died. You can see his discomfort and anxiety on stage. I know he must have felt bad a lot of the time, but to me that's a courageous individual. He has blessed my life with a lot of laughs, someone who never even heard of him until after his death. A pretty meaningful life if you leave something of yourself behind that people who never even met you enjoy.
I just love it when these little bites of Mitch pop up.I almost went to see him back in about 2002 Indianapolis....I had only heard him say a few jokes on the Bob and Tom show.I missed that chance because i had to call off work......and figured he will come back another day.I love Mitch's comedy and his one line deliveries. RIP Mitchel Lee Hedberg....you are sadly missed by millions.
wow, one i havent seen.. Thank you so much for sharing it... I remember seeing him live, thinking to myself, "Its going to be great to watch this dude go big".. tragic.. much love my fallen brother.. RIP
good stuff, you can hear all the noise and chatter when he started, a lot of people drunkenly and rudely talking, but his perfect quiet and reflective delivery did the trick, this is not easy to do, the jokes have to be good... but the noisy ones heard the laughter and had to shut up to hear him. by the end he had their complete attention.
Just found this as an Mitch fan who found out about him in the early 2000's and saw him twice before he passed, even shook his hand after one of the shows! Interesting to see that he had more of a 'story line' for his jokes early on, from the 2000s stuff you can see he started cutting down on the elaboration.
Idc what anyone says its one of the funniest jokes ever. “I used to do drugs, i still do but i used to too”. Its brilliant. I miss that man and wonder where hed be today if he was still here. Rip Mitch.
Thank you for sharing this! It absolutely made my day. Mitch is a legend in my eyes and still one of my favorite comedians. His style was impeccable and I love hearing him tell jokes. RIP!
Seeing this for the first time just now is great (I thought I had seen all of Mitch's videos), but seeing all the people that I agree with about Mitch Hedberg in the comments is even better. I love that he was loved by so many.
This is better than most "comedy" today. He didn't say the f-word as periods between all his sentences. he didn't point at some guy in the crowd and call them an f-word. Just solid witty jokes...
That running from the bread man had me burst out and laughing! Mitch Hedberg‘s mental struggles are very sad looking back at. People see depression and drug addiction very different today than they did 20 years ago. It’s just sad, but this dude truly had a gift.
I thought I knew all his material, but there was new stuff in here that was spectacular. (Cows, shoes, bread toasters, etc). So glad I listened. Thanks for the upload.
I saw Mitch at the Punchline comedy club in Atlanta in the late 90s. He literally asked the crowd - "anyone have a good hookup on heroin - come see me after the show". I thought he was joking at the time.
❤ Gotta add to the appreciation pile here! Like many others, i am a lifetime fan of M.H. & this is also the oldest video of his ive ever seen... With a surprisingly high number of jokes i haven't seen which is an absolute delight... 🎉😅😂 So great! And i live in Louisville and have been to the C.Caravan! Had no clue Mitch had ever done a set there!
After Mitch says he feels lonely after he throws a frisbee, I swear a lady in the audience yells "Frisbee Golf"! He looks right at her. Maybe I just imagined it. 3:27
He was one of the best of my generation. We lost a lot of great artists from Gen-X to due drug addiction. It's heartbreaking. I find solace in Mitch's comedy and come back to his old comedy shows and watch them again. Rest in peace, Mitch.
Finding old Mitch Hedburg videos is striking comedy gold 🥇
I've always loved Mitch's comedy!
I haven’t even seen most of this routine
It's awesome to see him slowly but surely win the audience over.
Even late in his career he was like that, watching (or listening) the crowd go from "wtf is this guy..? talking about...???" to just absolutely slaying was a treat. I miss him :(
Douchy audience though but he always gets through.
Literally always happened with him lol. Crazy
Check out his Comedy Central special. In the full, unedited version, he does the same thing. It's extraordinary!
You are so right. That's why he was absolutely one of the best.
This crowd had no idea how good he was. “Here’s a picture of me when I was younger. Every picture of you IS from when you were younger.”
At this point, even HE didn't know how good he was.
He was getting some good laughs
This is the earliest Mitch content that I have seen and it is good! Thank you to whoever posted this. The audio quality is good too! Thank you!
I wish I had more info but I recently seen one that was in the early stages like this one , ugh . I’ll try to get back cause I think it predates this .
So cool to see how he honed his talent from here: his rhythm and his economy aren’t nearly as sharp. But the same cleverness is there.
Somehow I heard your comment and Mitch's cadence....and voice.
No man theres some like late 80's Mitch clips out there, before he really developed into "Mitch".
Still do, but used to too.
This is how I remember Mitch, we shot Comedy on the Road together with John Byner..this same year...in Nashville, his character was developing, but not quite where he ended up...I remember his hair being longer than this...shortening the hair and added the sunglasses made a big difference. Did you post this?
Awesome

Another Great comedy gone all too soon!!!!!
I remember this guy. I used to see him at the store.
I wish we could say we still do too✌️
Only people that are aware of the strategic grill locations will get that reference...thank u for the convenience.
I used to steal Mitch Hedberg jokes, I still do, but I used to too.
😂😂😂
You beat us all too it. 😅🙈👍
so
is this joke smthing more than wordplay ?
cause i dont think i get it
non native speaker btw
@@orestisoro1899its one of Mitch's jokes
Damn Carlos
Love seeing this old stuff! Underrated line “so I quit applying for jobs, I needed to eat”
Love it.
The people there did not quite realize what a legend he would become
Maybe because he was bombing?
That's because he wasn't a legend...
Yet.
Obviously.
I thought I've seen most of his clips, but this was a first time since his early ones and I totally see his improvement on his later jokes. this one is also good tho.

Mitch looks beautiful, im glad we have this footage
Good health always looks better than drugged up looks
Looks ridiculous
His comedy style is not for everyone but it’s definitely one of my favorites
This is earliest Mitch, and if he had been a sitcomwriter, would have been better than 90%

How have I never seen this after decades of watching Mitch content?! Amazing dude!! 🙏🙌🤙🔥
I know, right? I just found this!!
He was so shy. It is sad that he never really knew how amazing he was.
Wherever he is, I hope he is happy and can see how his work continues to bring people joy.
He died of OD a long time ago
He knew alright.
What a talent! In my top 10 of all-time favorite comedians for sure.
This guy said, "Here's a picture of me when I was younger."
Every picture of you, is a picture of you when you were younger.
- Mitch Hedberg
💀
Here’s a picture where you’re older.
Lemme see that camera
One of the best funny guys that deserved more.
Is kinda interesting how he seems to be more "confident" in this early performance compared to the years after. Even his eyes, open and looking the audience in a relaxed way
Maybe it’s before he got really into the heroin and became self conscious about being ripped on opiates in front of that many people
When I was heavy on opiates my anxiety was horrible and I definitely was acting weird kinda how he did in his more recent stuff
Not what I saw lol. He looks really nervous and doesn’t know where to put his hands
Drugs

The “complete cow dependency” joke was hilarious & the crowd didn’t even react!
The crowd was lactose intolerant
The magic was there
Yeah, even back then he already had it. So nice to see some new material I haven't seen before.
Mitch calling out the crowd was epic 🎉. Changed the whole set when they stopped talking so much in background.
Mitch Hedberg is my favorite comedian. Wish I got to see him perform live. RIP
Mitch Hedberg was my favorite comedian
"Every book is a children's book, if the kid can read" -MH
One of my favorite comics of all time
Some of the crowd was doing its own thing. Half way through, he had them! That's the Mitch magic.
Can't believe I've never seen this one!!
He had beautiful hair.
wow, one i havent seen.. Thank you so much for sharing it... I remember seeing him live, thinking to myself, "Its going to be great to watch this dude go big".. tragic.. much love my fallen brother.. RIP
His vibe is so refreshing
Interesting seeing the beginnings of a genius. He was a natural even in this performance. Imagine what he would be doing if he were alive today.

LMAO the Foot Locker joke. Oh man, he had that special quirky humor even back then.
Something good for sitting on my ass is a fucking killer joke
Damn. I thought I'd seen them all. Thanks for the upload!

Super clever set. Real sharp and solid laughs. Thx for this.
I miss Mitch he was a comedy genius!
"Had a job in Miami once which was stupid cause I lived in Detroit.
People in my car pool gave me a lot of shit."
Thanks for the upload!
Miss your ridiculous comedy! 37 years wasn't enough on this planet.
I bet the last few years would have been gold tier content for him.
One of a kind, great comic, great writer, great guy.
I never saw this one before. He didn't quite have the tone we came to know but it's still really good.
Timing is natural, but comedic timing is learned. He learned it..
*Brand new vintage Mitch!* 🤩
Funny from beginning to end. Miss him, try to click everything that I think I haven’t seen yet. Thanks! So young!
Thank you for sharing this! It absolutely made my day. Mitch is a legend in my eyes and still one of my favorite comedians. His style was impeccable and I love hearing him tell jokes. RIP!
Sober Mitch! His weird style of comedy was awesome. I often think about building a go-kart with my ex-landlord.
I find this joke especially funny since my husband and I are landlords. Heck yeah to building a go-kart with any former tenant that asks!
You both better dream then.
Damn he had incredible material to be so early in his career
Seeing this for the first time just now is great (I thought I had seen all of Mitch's videos), but seeing all the people that I agree with about Mitch Hedberg in the comments is even better. I love that he was loved by so many.
2:13 if he had set up the bread delivery guy as a readhead … at this point he’d be running from the ginger bread man (gingerbread man).
that frisbee joke is solid gold
It certainly is.
Thanks for Baby Mitch!
One of the best IMHO. He will be missed.

New old Mitch material. Yessss

he ages during the video, you almost don't notice....
And not yet funny
Why you lyin bro
I used to miss Mitch.
I still do.
But I used to too.
Wow, this before he found his real rhythm and material…….still love it!!
So cool. Early incarnation of a genius.
That was a very rough start but Mitch soldiered on and kicked ass!
“No. But I’ll wear lipstick and high heels.” God I wish he was still alive to tell that joke in 2023. Rip
i was born in theo south end of kentucky born in 1991 and I REALLYYYYYYY wish I could have got to go here.
You wouldn’t have got many of the jokes
I like how he rushes off stage like a 3rd grader after a book report lol
I used to like Mitch Hedberg, I still do, but I used to too
COOL! New footage of Mitch, new jokes, I love it. Thx for sharing
so cool man i used to love this guy. I still do but...
Mitch had awesome hair
Thanks for uploading this!
Never knew his hair was that long! 😎 Cool! Funny guy
Mitch was one of a kind. I along with many other fans enjoyed his tales. A truely funny guy! We,re going to miss him. RIP Buddy!!! We love you.❤❤❤❤😊😅😂

Anyone that loved mitch loved seeing him having an average night, still the funniest man alive in my time.
Those patrons witnessed a legend and most of them were 100% clueless on the matter.
Holy shot the Detroit/Miami joke is awesome. Lol can’t believe haven’t heard anyone say that before.
AHAH im so glad he said something about the fkn chitter chatter ahah it was so bad. you were a great comic Mitch. thanks for the laughs man
He's always been great. I wish he was still around.
i actually didn't see this one, i'm so excited! ty!
Just when you think you have seen all of his material, one from years ago pops up.
Happy to find a clip of him that I haven't seen. Or should I say a video of him when he was younger? 🤔 Never knew his hair was that long.
This was way before the one liner act... that was where he excelled!
he was awesome.
"I get hungry about 3 times a day, which is perfect."

Amazing!
That second joke was really uplifting! 😂😂😂💸💨👝🎁
Mitch makes the high pitched ringing juuuuust bearable.
“I used to do drugs” is the best, simple joke, of all time. Lol
