Undoubtedly because "hell" was in it. Things were very different when it came to movies (and even television) twenty years ago. I remember an age when people weren't allowed to cuss/curse in sitcoms on television or in commercials, no matter if it was something like "hell" or "crap". Now it's seen as perfectly normal. I'm curious what this movie was rated back when it released. Given all the cussing and violence, I'm guessing it was rated R. Nowadays, such a movie would be rated PG-13.
Fun Fact about the South Park Oscar thing, they later had en episode of the show where they depicted Phil Collins, the guy that sung the Tarzan song that South Park Lost to, holding an Academy Award for the entire episode. It just stays in his right hand the whole time.

T-shirts for a charity drive. South Park has been on for more than two decades, but they’ve worked very hard to maintain a consistent level of quality and not just produce more content for the sake of it. There was interest in subsequent South Park movies, but Parker and Stone were hesitant to find a story that was worthy enough of this honor. South Park’s “Imaginationland Trilogy” from season 11 was initially conceived as the second South Park feature film. This plan gradually changed, but there’s an extra level of quality that’s present in these episodes. Recently, more than a dozen South Park films have been announced for Paramount+. Kenny is voiced by Mike Judge in this movie, instead of Matt and Trey like in the show. George Clooney plays the doctor that kills Kenny. All the celebrities are credited as themselves despite being voiced by actual voice actors. Winona Ryder is played by “Winona Ryder”, Jennifer Aniston is “Jennifer Aniston”, Brian Dennehy is “Brian Dennehy” and Brian Boitano is “Brian Boitano”. Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and fans in general often joke that a majority of the people who saw this movie were under 17, and got in by buying tickets to the PG-13 rated Will Smith flop Wild Wild West (1999). The urban legend became so popular in 1999 that it would be spoofed in an episode of South Park (1997). When the children are in rehab, a poster in the back of Mr. Mackey's room reads, "Get High!!! On Pottery," which was a quote from a high school teacher of Matt Stone's. The original quote was, "Son, you need to know not to use pot as a natural high. Instead of getting high with pot, get high with pottery." Paramount Pictures originally asked Trey Parker and Matt Stone if they could make a PG-13 rated film. They said no and would not agree to make a movie until the studio agreed that the final product would be rated R. The original trailer, which took jabs at Walt Disney and animation in general, was hated by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, who called it, "Everything we didn't want the film to be." Matt Stone was so upset he dismantled the videotape of the trailer and threw it in the trunk of his car, then told the production crew in anger to "do it again." Despite a popular urban legend, this film was never banned in Iraq. Iraq never distributes any foreign movies in the country at all In the film This Film Is Not Yet Rated (2006), Matt Stone claims that the original idea for Cartman's mom's Internet video was of her having sex with a horse (but the act wouldn't be seen on screen). The MPAA would not allow this because of bestiality, despite the fact the at one point in the movie, a picture of a man having sex with a horse is seen (when Dr. Vosknocker is trying to get Cartman attempt to swear and one of his flash cards is "horse fucker"). So Stone and Trey Parker decided to make the Internet video of a German guy defecating on Cartman's mom, and the MPAA approved it. The picture hanging above Satan's bed is of actor Skeet Ulrich. In the German dub of the film, Mrs. Cartman's German partner in the dubious video that the boys watch on the Internet is actually British. The song "What Would Brian Boitano Do?" is a reference to the original Christmas Card "The Spirit of Christmas" which was the inspiration for the South Park (1997) series. In the short, Stan asks Cartman, "What would Brian Boitano do?" when Jesus is fighting Santa. In the short segment of soldiers marching to the U.S.O. show while singing a cadence song, Jesus Christ appears in the ranks for a moment before the scene transition to Kyle hiding Ike away in the attic. Stan's family (parents Randy and Sharon, sister Shelley) are named after Trey Parker's family. Kyle's parents, Gerald and Sheila, are named after Matt Stone's parents. Ironically enough, the only song in the entire film that contains no profanity is Satan's performance of "Up There." The reason Trey Parker and Matt Stone made the movie so inappropriate was because they thought their show would get cancelled. On TV they could not do much, so they wanted to let their audiences know how bad they could make it, thinking it would be a good sign off to the show. Gregory can be seen jumping onto an actual soapbox during the "La Resistance" musical number. This acts as a play on words, because not only is he physically standing on a box of soap, but "a person on their soapbox" refers to someone preaching or extolling their virtue. The line in the song, "Blame Canada," "They're not even a real county anyway," emulates an actual rationale bandied about by Quebec Separatists justifying leaving the confederation of Canada prior to the 1995 separation referendum in which the vote barely went for remaining in Canada. The film was made the same time as the third season of South Park. The producers bought two buildings, one to make the movie, the other to make the third season. Trey Parker and Matt Stone had to rush back and forth into each buildings to make both the movie and the show. It was so stressful for them, that Trey Parker was hospitalized due to bad stomach pains. He thought he had appendicitis, but his stomach was sore due to stress. Satan throwing Saddam back into the Pits of Hell is a mock of Emperor Palpatine's death in Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983) when Darth Vader throws him into a pit in the Death Star. Also, the line "I have had enough of you!" is said in the same way in the film Darkman. But don’t mind me, just a South Park Superfan!
Found this out recently. The reasoning behind the South Park celebrity impression of Phil Colins was because of the fact that his song for Tarzan beat blame Canada for an Oscar
Fun fact: They specifically aimed for 399 sweats because if it was 400, it would've been rated R. They basically wanted to say "Fuck you" to the rating system.

So I have a fun story about this movie. Growing up I was a sheltered boy but I asked and still watch stuff on adult swim back in the day when growing up on Cartoon Network. Point is when I discovered this show it was actually through the movie and in fact I was able to seeing the entire day of Kyles moms a bitch with all of the lyrics and everything even quoting the movie. My mom was literally have me sing this song to people just to have them laugh their asses off. Gotta love my mom
This is parents in a nutshell instead of parents, blaming themselves for not taking the time and responsibility to monitor their own kids. They just blame company for just doing their job
This movie had no reason to be as good as it was, despite all the over the top crassness. Some of those musical numbers were insanely well done and the jokes laugh out loud funny!
I was conceived to this movie and the fact that I know that information and have for years speaks to the type of parenting that one has when their favorite show is South Park
Fun fact: Saddam Hussein was actually shown this movie while in prison (multiple times in fact) and liked it so much that he actually gave Trey and Matt a signed picture of himself.

The original quote was, "Son, you need to know not to use pot as a natural high. Instead of getting high with pot, get high with pottery."
Paramount Pictures originally asked Trey Parker and Matt Stone if they could make a PG-13 rated film. They said no and would not agree to make a movie until the studio agreed that the final product would be rated R.
The original trailer, which took jabs at Walt Disney and animation in general, was hated by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, who called it, "Everything we didn't want the film to be." Matt Stone was so upset he dismantled the videotape of the trailer and threw it in the trunk of his car, then told the production crew in anger to "do it again."
Despite a popular urban legend, this film was never banned in Iraq. Iraq never distributes any foreign movies in the country at all
In the film This Film Is Not Yet Rated (2006), Matt Stone claims that the original idea for Cartman's mom's Internet video was of her having sex with a horse (but the act wouldn't be seen on screen).
Ironically enough, the only song in the entire film that contains no profanity is Satan's performance of "Up There."
The reason Trey Parker and Matt Stone made the movie so inappropriate was because they thought their show would get cancelled.
I would write a whole rant like that on any of the three MHA movies.
My guy fr wrote a fucking school essay holy shit
Absolute dedication
I ain’t reading all that I’m happy for u tho or sorry that happened
Pretty sure the movie came out in season 3, not 2
Fun fact: the government forced Saddam Hussein to watch this movie on repeat multiple times around the time this movie was released
PLEASE DO MORE SOUTH PARK!!!🔥🔥
I hope they do.
That or Ralph Balkshi movies
@Michael B WTH are you talking about?
Okay but that counselor actually did have his head turn into a balloon one episode when he got high.
He wouldn't do that! Drugs are bad, mmkay?
@@Haunted_Plush He got fired, and took LSD, which the creators of the show have also done lol
@@cynicat74 I was making a reference
@@Haunted_Plush So was I. Trey Parker and Matt Stone turned up to the Oscars crossdressing while tripping on LSD.
@cynicat74 oh yeah I see, also yes they were fabulous in those dresses
I've been wanting for them to react to south park for a long while now, very happy to see it finally happen.
They have reacted to South Park before tho
@@TheIdiotChihuahua they picked the most average episodes to watch
@@Manruz-z1k I know right
Found this out recently. The reasoning behind the South Park celebrity impression of Phil Colins was because of the fact that his song for Tarzan beat blame Canada for an Oscar
Never watching Tarzan the same ever again
Fun fact: They specifically aimed for 399 sweats because if it was 400, it would've been rated R.
They basically wanted to say "Fuck you" to the rating system.
Omg that's amazing! XD
When I was a kid I sang uncle fucker to my actual uncles lmao because I thought the song was for them! Embarrassed my mom so hard that thanksgiving
Damn, this makes me miss Chef even more. 😢
Rest In Peace Isaac Hayes
This movie was my first time watching South Park. Not a bad start, honestly.
The first episode I watched of South Park was the Scott Tenorman one. The most brutal episode being my first lol.
The amount of serotonin you three give me is amazing. Thank you for being yourselves & for always giving us the funniest & best content! It’s greatly appreciated!!! ❤
When sadam was captured in 2006 they made him watch this so it’s even better seeing all the sadam jokes knowing he had seen them too
The creators behind this film also received a signed autograph from Saddam himself
Fun fact: Kenny's lines are fully scripted. Matt Stone covers his mouth while recording.
Did u see this in the movies as a kid like me? Or on tv lol my mom was awesome like this too haha
Fun fact. The max swears to make a movie NC17 is 400 so they put 399 swear words in the movie.
This is parents in a nutshell instead of parents, blaming themselves for not taking the time and responsibility to monitor their own kids. They just blame company for just doing their job
8:43 Sadly, that’s not the worst thing Cartman has done.
Remember the Chilli?
@@Just_Ava_Here He teamed up with Cathulu (idk how to spell it) to destroy the world, the Mr. and Mrs. Tenorman chili seems tame by comparison.
@@brenlc1412 oh. Cthulhu. Yeah I remember that. Coon and Cthulhu. The greatest team up ever

Also not the only time he did black face 😅
Fun fact: this was supposed to be the final South Park thing released, but because of its success it got brought back for more seasons
lmao I watched the SP movie back in kindergarten, still watch it to this day, and Kenny is by far my favorite character!
you watched it in kindergarten? how? who? why? there are so many unanswered questions
@@brilliantsuper_1515 Mom had the VHS watched it while she was at work and wanted to watch a movie we just grabbed whatever looked like a cartoon XD
Really 😂?
@@Sac_27 yep!
He's my favorite too! I would say long live Kenny, but... well...
It's kind of infuriating how great this movie is and how hard the songs go
THIS MOVIE WAS MY CHILDHOOD, I WATCHED IT EVERY OTHER DAY WHEN I WAS IN 3RD GRADE
Did you ever realise that Stan vomits in front of Wendy because he's literally love sick
This movie and Team America: World Police are both masterpieces of comedy. You won't likely change my mind.
this was the first south park piece of media i saw thanks to my dad when i was 12, i then proceeded to binge every single episode later on
Fun fact: Saddam Hussein was actually shown this movie while in prison (multiple times in fact) and liked it so much that he actually gave Trey and Matt a signed picture of himself.
Sometimes when I'm alone I get naked, cover myself with vasoline and pretend I'm a slug
Believe it or not, the South Park movie actually doesn't quite set the record for most swearing in a film outright. The Wolf of Wall Street set it in 2013 for the most f bombs in a non documentary movie at 569 uses.
it’s so interesting watching someone who doesn’t have much knowledge of south park give commentary on this movie. my dad would watch it around us as kids so i don’t remember ever not knowing the south park lore lol. i love it
When I was 12, i memorized all the lyrics to the Kyle's mom song 💀💀💀
I would love more South Park
The opening number is based on the opening to Beauty and the Beast, Satan's is "Part of your World", and La Resistance is Les Mis.
It’d be a very long series but I’d love if you watched all of South Park
The only reason “Blame Canada” got the Oscar Nomination is because every other song was too inappropriate
Why did I get tears in my eyes when seeing Kenny go to heaven 😭
Fun fact: That's James Hetfield from Metallica singing the "Going to Hell" song.
It's called "hell isn't good" just saying
The fact that Jack got a Vietnam war veteran hat make this movie funnier I wonder where he got it from 🧐
Fun fact: Stan got the puke thing from his mom, Sharon
is that said in a episode or something? :O
@@amongsus6927
Yeah. Can't remember what episode, but I remember a scene where a young Sharon is nervous with a young Randy, and she pukes all over him
Funny thing in the South Park video game Carmen's electricity is a move and you have to mash all the buttons to make him curse
Fun fact the only character song to not have any swearing, is from Satan
Would love for them to start watching some South Park episodes.
In the south park video game the stick of truth Cartman still has his powers he dresses up as a wizard and it's called Curse lightning being a double entendre
There's actually another Les Miserables reference in South Park. Terrance and Phillip are named after Terrance Mann and Phillip Quast, two actors who played Javert, the character that Russell Crowe played in the movie.
1:15 Apparently, the US military forced Saddam to watch this movie. And he actually liked it. So much, that he sent Trey Parker and Matt Stone an autographed picture of himself.
You missed George Clooney being the doctor who kills Kenny 😂
The reason that kid threw up was because he throws up every time he sees her because he likes her or whatever.
9:54 I was singing
Robin Williams performs blame canada at the oscars for new fans, it's really great the checkout!
The demonitazation team are gonna have a field trip with this one

"I think this is a genuinely good movie"
Literally five seconds later:💀
Brian Boitano did actually ice dance to his theme song.
I used to love watching this movie with friends and had a few friends who had the ring tones they brought out for the movie.
If you do end up doing more South Park episodes “Scott Tenorman must die” is recommended. Also the imagination land trilogy
OMG SCOTT TENORMAN MUST DIE WAS MY FIRST SOUTH PARK EPISODE! My parents finally let me watch South Park during the pandemic just to keep me occupied. Smart decision because it made me happy.
@Baby Bat Starting with that episode is wild. I remember after that everyone was like, "what else can Cartman do?"
I mean, he kept doing stuff. 😂
11:47 NO FUCKING WAY THEY SPLICED ONE DUVET-BOA BECAUSE JAVK SAID YOU DONT UNDERSTAND IM FUCKIND DYING😂😂😂😂
My theory for why Kenny’s ghost warned cartman and not Stan or Kyle is because cartman so evil he already has a foot in hell making him easier for Kenny to reach
I've been waiting for this one :D
i can literally sing along to every song in this movie I LOVE IT
1:25 I see theyre informed in the sptwt lore.... for example... "he would not fucking say that".... truly a classic
The fact that this was being made at the same time of season 3 😂
The Brian Boitano joke is a reference of the second christmas special : "Jesus vs Santa."
17:59 that's like the Lion King meme where they throw Simba off the cliff

As a Canadian, this is one of the best movies.
I know I’m late to this video but hearing y’all say Gregory’s part of la resistance sounds like a les mis song made me happy bc Gregory’s based off of enjolras much like moles based off of grantaire and a bit of eponine 😋😋
Hold on... That makes his relationship with Christophe kinda... interesting.
Kenny was the real MVP of this movie
