There's nothing worse than people who want to hear "the record" when a band is playing LIVE! The muted trumpet solo that is improvised is completely within the style and concept of Gene Gifford's composition / arrangement, just like the other IMPROVISED solos. And by the way which "melody" are you talking about? Even the original Casa Loma band recorded the tune on at least 5 different occasions for Brunswick, Decca and RCA and none of the five recordings that were all released on records are exactly the same.
HEARD ON 90.1 MPBN AND FOUND 'EM HERE!!!!!!! LOVE IT!!!!!!! MORE MORE!!!!!!!!
Marvelous! Love the danceable tempo. Usually played way too fast this is more like the original 1930 recording my favorite by far. Congratulations
yes: although I am fan of Swing and like the killer-diller version as well, this one has the perfect tempo, agreed
You've got to be good, even at this tempo, if you want to play this number well. And they have really done it, it's lovely to hear.
Muted trumpet muddies up a good melody. Why not play it the way it was written and stop trying to be cute.

Not crazy about some of the sections' phrasing, but that muted trumpet solo is excellent.
