As a retired trucker I can tell you that many truckers, guys and girls, take their pets with them in their trucks and that includes cats and dogs. Yr pepper is a cool cat!😊
Great job on driving, you're definitely getting the hang of it. I'll add my 2-cents about preselecting the range shift before shifting from 5th into 6th. Flip the range lever way ahead of your shift -- it won't do anything until you move the shifter through Neutral, when it will instantaneously shift the gearbox into the upper range. It will make that range transition easier and faster. (In fact, you can flip the lever for Hi Range any time you're still accelerating in low range, preparing to shift to the next gear - just remember that IF you shift through Neutral, the transmission will upshift to the Hi Range instantly. The same is true for downshifting. If you're slowing down, might shift down a couple of gears in Hi Range while braking... flip the range lever down, then ONLY move the gearshift into your starting gear just as you're almost stopped. The range selector will change as soon as you pass through Neutral (it's all pneumatic). RE: "floating the gears". That's how I learned too, decades ago. And I did that for many years. But eventually I worked for a fleet company and got to know one of the mechanics. He said he could tell from the truck which drivers "floated the gears" and which drivers double-clutched (which just eases the huge torque load applied to the gearbox). The wear on the gear train was very evident. Clutches are way cheaper to replace than transmissions. Double-clutching isn't a big deal. It's an "in-out-in-out" procedure that should last lest than a second. But it provides a very brief "safety cushion" for the time you are are changing gears, especially if you might miss a gear, and are trying to find the "next available gear".)
And a big mistake that some make who don't understand the transmissions that use a clutch brake which are most trucks ( other then baby trucks and pickups/cars that use a fully synchronized transmission ) press the clutch pedal to the floor when double clutching while under way or pressing it in all the way before they come to a stop and that is guaranteed to destroy the clutch brake in fairly short order. Only pressing the clutch pedal that last inch or so to the floor when the truck is stopped moving to stop the rotation of the transmission gears to select a gear to start out in, of course this comment isn't for you ... its for those who are understandably completely unfamiliar with highway tractors with manual transmissions and their quirks. Definitely the truck transmission manufactures do not condone floating gears, double clutching is the method they intend to be used although like myself ... yes I float the gears most of the time unless a situation calls for breaking torque for quicker down shifts etc.
Here in Manitoba was helping a farmer with harvest hauling soybeans to an elevator with a set of super b's. Also dumping the soybeans in a big pile outside. Dumping the same way you were with the corn. Great fun.
Had one cat that loved to ride in my car. A 1969 Mercury Cougar with a 351 wisdor. FMX c4 transmission. Positive trac rear-end. Could do awesome side-ways slides. Give a few friends a ride. Didn't want a second ride. Scared the crap out of people with that old car. Factory 2 barrel carb. Numbers matching car! Nephew's car now. He's a master mechanic.
Pepper is one heck of an awesome fur person , that there is one thing that really pulls at my heart strings , a farm cat that always shows affection. Don't get me wrong , I love the farm life but the critters own a huge portion of my heart.
Hey Laura, thank you for another AWESOME video, & thank you for taking pepper for a ride alomg in the truck. i have found it so interesting on how you girls & guys farm in the U.S. I hope that there is more videos of pepper & her kittens too. THANKS AGAIN!!!!!
Just a thought when the weather is cold ,raining remember bridge decks and overcrossings can ice up, be cautious and dont make any sudden moves crossing same. You are doing great BTW!
Love the way Pepper comes running to you... looked like a JBL powered speaker next to you... I bring mine out if I'm stacking firewood in the same area, or working on something else... nice to have music... never, ever wear ear buds, head phones... always want to stay alert to my surroundings. Love every video 🥰
FYI. With the Eaton 10 speed, it is OK to flip the splitter switch while still in 5th gear. It will not shift untill you move the shift lever out of 5th gear.
@lavernmcnitt138 is right. The shifting instructions sticker that should be either on the dash or the driver’s sun visor says “Preselect all range shifts (move range selector before moving shift lever)”.
Trying not to sound negative but think you are #30 to let her know to flip the switch early. Yes it does cause extra wear on the shift fork but not enough to damage it badly so just the way many do it. And actually Pre-select range shifts means before you put it into the next gear- ie not trying to go from 1st to 6th in low before selecting hi range. Does not mean selecting before you take it out of the previous gear.
It's not just OK, it's the ONLY way to do it without damaging the transmission's synchronizer. The range selector should only be pre-selected when in gear and never when in neutral.
You are doing a great job driving the semi. I know the weather has been a issue for us as well in central Illinois. Hopefully we both get a window of good weather and finish up.
Laura you may or may not know, but using Rain-X on the side windows and mirrors makes it easier to see out when it rains. Also helps dust etc to slide off the glass ..
Tarping those corn mounds must be a big job. Sorry to see the weather is crapy but great work Laura driving the truck. Good luck weather wwwwise for tomorrow 👍
I showed one of your videos to my 99-year-old mom who grew up on a farm in Norfolk, NE. She loved it!! She was a senior in 1942 when Johnny Carson was a sophomore at Norfolk High. You two are far more productive than all eight kids in her household plus the horses! Your sparkly personality and enthusiasm for your work are so enjoyable to see! Keep it going!!
40 years and well over a million miles driving truck and I never used the clutch except to start rolling. You were a bit rough when you started driving but this video shows you've got it down. Well done!
Another great video , ,our attention to your equipment is out standing, you got it young lady a great job at the end of the day floating the gears save the legs at the end of the day instead of double clutching
Hi Laura and Grant. Love these Harvesting videos. Farmers Almanac says if we get El Nino we on the west Coast will be cooler with a probability of rain and snow above normal. Midwest is forecast to be colder with above normal snow fall into March. We could use the rain and snow for the spring. Hopefully you will have a great winter too for the spring. Hope your harvest continues to go well and is bountiful .
I found it funny that after I watched this video I left and went to Walmart. As I walked around I saw a man and his wife walking around with Laura Farms shirts on. Stopped and talked to them for several minutes about your videos. Just shows how far your videos and presence on UA-cam can make complete strangers share a common interest
It is nice to see the grandad and his grandaughter have a laugh in the tractor. Over a 9 years she wil drive it just like her aunties and mother and father.😊😊😊
Laura thank you for another great video, good operators “can feel “ their equipment, that’s what makes them good and I think you fit into this category. Good wishes from a rainy UK 🇬🇧
You should get spinner knobs to put on the truck steering wheels, makes it easier to steer when turning. I speak from about 20 years experience driving semi's.
As far as your "given enough training, anyone can do anything" statement goes, I mostly agree with that... until it comes to anyone trying to teach me to draw anything more complicated than a stick figure. It takes a really patient ruler to help me draw a straight line!
Hey Laura when you change gears from 5th to 6th always change your range before moving your stick out of 5th gear I t will change automatically when you bring it out of gear
The only time I had to double clutch was on ooooooold equipment without (or with worn out) synchros. I learned stick on a 1946 Ford 1/2 ton fire truck being used as a water tender and with that thing double clutching to match the input and engine RPM was a necessity.
Laura, the switch from the lower range will go smoother if you flip the switch up before you come out of gear that way while you are coming over for fifth you won't have to wait at all and it will drop right in on the high side. BTW I have over 4 million miles combined on the road for over 30 years and I have never ever double clutched to shift, not even once.
We saw a bumper sticker the other day that said "Chick with a Stick" and had a picture of a woman driving stick shift...we thought of Laura immediately. 😀
Laura, I'm a Truck driver and learned how to drive on a 10 Spd. Don't get too wrapped up in the "double clutch debate" if it's working for you, keep going. Another great video. You know you got the UA-cam formula dialled in when other smaller farming UA-camrs are actively trying to follow your example. Keep it up 🤙
Use whatever works for your shifting. I learned on a 1949 international 4 speed with two speed rear end, double clutch every time. I liked a Mack I drove with an 18 speed. Hardest was a Kenworth with two 10 speed and a high low rear.
Hi Laura it's COOL to see PEPPER with you. At are Farm they were everywhere. But they stayed Out of the Fields . And thats a Good thing . Can't see them on ground..... Well it's aways GREAT to watch your Videos 💞 God bless you and your family 🙏
thank you laura and grant :-) love watching yall work in the fields or on the farm doing whatever :-) loved this video loved seeing pepper riding with ya for awhile she's a pretty kitty :-) pretty eyes :-) thanks for the video once again
It's an Interesting to see Laura serious while going through the gears as she drives. Don't worry about your skills shifting gears. You will eventually get to the point that it will second nature
Love the harvest vlogs, brings back great memories! You are floating the gears, just fine. One day we were unloading at the pile, as I drove over the ramp, a airbag on the trailer popped, scared the #### out of the elevator employee!
How are you Laura I think so too Laura, people with the right instructions can develop their abilities and do anything I loved this video broadcast, I got a few more subscribers Today For your channel
Are you planning to continue to post as many as now after Harvest??? It seems you enjoy harvesting corn more than soybeans....What a pro changing gears in the Rig!!!! awesome
Just wanted to check in and tell you and you entire crew happy Halloween. Hope you folk continue to have a safe harvest. Love the videos. Thank you for helping educate the general public!!
The first seconds I must laugh so much as you drive the sound like a racetruck 🙈🤣. Never seen so much corn in the base where you go with your truck 😳god bless you 🙌🤗
lil Lady,,, float the gears! Sometimes if you get truck and trailer in a bind turning and turning on unlevel ground you may need to double clutch. I have been driving big trucks for 40 years. I shift the truck the way it needs to be shifted. Different conditions require different methods. You just keep doing what works for you and ignore what others think or say!
Yep, double clutching is a skill she should learn especially given she drives different rigs besides the 10 sp Eaton. In fact Eaton recommends double clutching that transmission in many circumstances. Also, did you think she was shifting a little early? It sounded to me like she was.
@@snappingbear yeah maybe a lil early but I couldnt see the road or conditions and maybe she was loaded light? What I was trying to tell her is do what works for her driving style. If she tries to double clutch she would probably miss gears and be a lil rough on the sliding clutches. Some people have a hard time learning to time when they push the pedal in unison of the shift. Push it in to hit neutral between gears then push it in to engage the next gear. It just takes practice. But in the mean time float them until she gets more driving time under her belt.
Damn girl, your grabbing those gears like a real trucker 👍 and I should know, I drove truck long haul for 25 yrs and didn't you say your farm or your fields are beside interstate 80? If so, I know I have been past your farm more times than I could ever count. Good job girl.
I am just getting around to watching this video, 4 days after you uploaded it. Sometimes I get distracted and get behind on watching your post. I love them all. I just can't get to them right away. Anywho... I love the opening sequence of you driving the truck. Then when the high speed portion came on it tickled my funny bone, especially with the sound turned up. BTW, your shifting has gotten very smooth. If you want an "Oh wow" moment Google "Pro Stock Car launch" and watch how fast those folks have to shift. It's difficult to count the shifts with how fast they shift. That is the image that went through my mind as you were "speed" shifting because of the fast forward in editing.
I was going to say the same thing about that transmission that somebody else already said . With that transmission , when you're in 5th gear you can go to the high side of the splitter while still in 5th gear and it won't shift unless the stick gets moved into the neutral position , but then I don't know if you're doing it that way as a timing mechanism by moving your hand or not , just saying by going to the high side while still in 5th might throw your timing off for getting 6th gear smoothly . It may make a clunking sound but it won't hurt it any , I did it that way for 21 years .
Laura has such a signature "Bye" at the end of each video.... Nobody says "bye" like Laura Farms!
Really like the field time, an loved the cat time 🤠. You can tell that cat really trusts you. Pretty 😍 neat 🥰. Thanks 👍 for sharing.
From a 72 yr. old truck driver...... You keep doing it (shifting) that way and you do a great job of it.
Said a prayer last night and this morning that the snow holds off until you all are done with harvest 🙏❤️🙏
4:30 waay cool Gage; I know lots of people couldn't do that at 4kph with just the tractor, never mind with a trailer hooked up too.
As a retired trucker I can tell you that many truckers, guys and girls, take their pets with them in their trucks and that includes cats and dogs. Yr pepper is a cool cat!😊
The funny thing about that is that the burliest truckers give their tiny dogs ultra macho names.
Check your motor in the morning for your cat they like to climb on them to stay warm .I lost a few cats that way
Good job on the no clutch. Saves wear and tear on the drive train. Good job
Great job on driving, you're definitely getting the hang of it. I'll add my 2-cents about preselecting the range shift before shifting from 5th into 6th. What a special cat you have. I had one like that when I was very young. Enjoy!
Haven't been watching ALL the uploads. But still want to stop by and cheer you all on. Thank you for farming.
Brilliant I have driven lots of trucks for 30 years you doing great no clutch is the correct way to go thanks for the videos from the uk 🇬🇧

Thanks for explaining/showing the tarped corn piles. It was stressing me out (all that corn left in the weather)!!

YEA! I luv taking my dog with me!! Cats are the same; she needed her portable bed.
I made a trip out to the West Coast and back. Going through Nebraska I was thinking of you and Grant. Happy Harvest.
I showed one of your videos to my 99-year-old mom who grew up on a farm in Norfolk, NE. She loved it!! She was a senior in 1942 when Johnny Carson was a sophomore at Norfolk High. so cute how pepper just lays on your lap immediately 🥰
40 years and well over a million miles driving truck and I never used the clutch except to start rolling. You were a bit rough when you started driving but this video shows you've got it down. Well done!
Your driving is great, no worries and I agree anyone can do it if they put their mind to it.
Noticed the auger blade above where the damaged gearbox was had a pretty good kink in it. Suspect the kink and the failed gearbox may be related.
Thank You Laura For Another Awesome Video!!
Keep Smiling On!!
😄👍👊❤️
You guys are rocking out these daily harvest videos! Loving them, thank you for all the extra hard work in putting them together.
Another great video , ,our attention to your equipment is out standing, you got it young lady a great job at the end of the day floating the gears save the legs at the end of the day instead of double clutching
Awesome to see Pepper in the tractor. Hope conditions allow you to get going full speed with the harvest. Take Care and Be safe on the farm. Out

Such a chilled harvest.Pepper co-havester and Grantruising and Gage reversing....What a team🤣🤣🤣🤣 enjoy the day.

Great job Laura Grant Gage you are fantastic job thank you enjoyed it.
Laura your truck driving skills are on point 🙂🙂👍👍👍I'm still learning when to up and down shift at the right time.
So inspiring to watch you.🙂👍👍👍👍
Just go by the rpm’s. 1600 upshift, 1400 downshift on my truck. It’s not rocket science.
Laura thank you for another great video, good operators “can feel “ their equipment, that’s what makes them good and I think you fit into this category. Good wishes from a rainy UK 🇬🇧

Corn piles I believe are cattle feed. I never seen anything like it till I moved to Nebraska.
Hey Laura when you change gears from 5th to 6th always change your range before moving your stick out of 5th gear I t will change automatically when you bring it out of gear

good afternoon, laura, excellent day to continue harvesting,
Stay positive!
Laura-Grant and yes Pepper!
We saw a bumper sticker the other day that said "Chick with a Stick" and had a picture of a woman driving stick shift...we thought of Laura immediately. 😀
LOL
Or a fake trans women
Awesome driving you go woman. Loved this one.
Laura, I'm a Truck driver and learned how to drive on a 10 Spd. Don't get too wrapped up in the "double clutch debate" if it's working for you, keep going. Floating will save you left knee issues as you age. (Even if you are somehow wrong transmissions are less expensive to replace than body parts anyways :P) Especially as you're bouncing around town not going up and down huge mountains--which would hypothetically put more strain on the gears.... It's just not worth arguing with people. You're shifting is great. I'm pulling for you guys to get 500K subs, Especially Ms. Pepper!!!
Hi Laura, picked up on you channel 10 days ago, you were at 487k viewers.Today Oct 30 your at493k. Your getting there. Keep up the good work.
Howdy from Texas ! Pepper the cat-dog! Hope you get it all in soon ! Blessings overflowing! Thanks for the vids !
Hi Laura it's COOL to see PEPPER with you. At are Farm they were everywhere. But they stayed Out of the Fields . And thats a Good thing . Can't see them on ground..... Well it's aways GREAT to watch your Videos 💞 God bless you and your family 🙏
Watching from Australia.. what a Great Show.. love the kid .. Driving in Reverse.. Filling the back of the truck with Grant
Pepper doesn’t know what to think about the Combine lol. Also Laura, I just love your Braided hair ❤😊
Good to see " pepper " on duty!! Lol!! Hope your harvest continues
without incident!!
Getting close on your goal of subs!!
👍🐺🧙♂️🦊👍
Love all the videos from Ontario Canada we are doing the same here right now Corn
thank you laura and grant :-) love watching yall work in the fields or on the farm doing whatever :-) loved this video loved seeing pepper riding with ya for awhile she's a pretty kitty :-) pretty eyes :-) thanks for the video once again
It's an Interesting to see Laura serious while going through the gears as she drives. Don't worry about your skills shifting gears. You will eventually get to the point that it will second nature
I think she was paying attention to the tachometer.
Love the harvest vlogs, brings back great memories! You are floating the gears, just fine. One day we were unloading at the pile, as I drove over the ramp, a airbag on the trailer popped, scared the #### out of the elevator employee!

That 16 row head really does a job on those fields !!
Yay! Only 8k to go! Ridiculously adorable. As usual. 💕
Love Pepper ❤. What a great cat.
Hi Laura, Loved your accelerated shifting bit. You shifted like a "long haul" driver with a close-ratio transmission, 😎
Nice job driving, real driver's float the gears no clutch needed 👍
You are looking pretty impressive shifting threw your gears in the semi! Your becoming a true professional truck driver 👌
Are you planning to continue to post as many as now after Harvest??? It seems you enjoy harvesting corn more than soybeans....What a pro changing gears in the Rig!!!! awesome

Knew you could super master the awesome eaton 10 speed. Just knew you could. Good instruction - none better.
The first seconds I must laugh so much as you drive the sound like a racetruck 🙈🤣. Never seen so much corn in the base where you go with your truck 😳god bless you 🙌🤗
Another awesome video Laura pet pepper for me love her she's a good kitty ❤️❤️
6:14 dang girl!! well done with that shifter
Watching Laura and the team is a great way to spend the fall

"given enough instruction, anyone can be good at anything" - Absolutely! The secret sauce of civilization. :)
Laura you do pretty good in the big trucks ! keep doing what works for you ! i enjoy watching your videos
Your doing a good job driving that truck 👍👍
I am just getting around to watching this video, 4 days after you uploaded it. Sometimes I get distracted and get behind on watching your post. I love them all. I just can't get to them right away.

I used to drive a Pete 8V92 Detroit Diesel with a 5-4 two stick trans, that was fun. I miss it!
Thanks for sharing the harvest videos!
You are doing an excellent job shifting that truck. If you ever get tired of farming I will get you a gig hauling logs out of the swamp!
If you decide to upgrade to a 16 row for the farm will you need to get bigger grain carts to keep up?
Laura in a truck! And tractor!😊 Hope it is going well for you guys!!
Hi Laura, I am so behind in watching your videos... but we love it... will have binge watch to catch up this weekend 😂
awesome love it when people float gears instead of double clutching.
