    Glad to hear there's a good reason in the description about the swap - wouldn't like to think the Michigan just barged in for the last runs of 2024! 8^) Just kidding around, the unusual combo was great to see. Liked the video. Cheers!

    These barge/tug combinations always give me the heebie jeebies for some reason, like they're going to come apart and go their separate ways. Thank you for the explanation! I love to see them zooming into the canal, as if they're in a hurry to get somewhere right now!

      You can see there is a set of stairs between the tug and barge so you can walk between the two. I bet it’s interesting to see the two vessels flexing under your feet when they are riding the waves! 😮

    It still amazes me how the tugs can move the barges! Thanks for the cool video!

    Hope Olive L Moore makes it another 3 years, she'll be 100 years old.

    Well that's neat. I'm less well-versed in the ITB fleets than the self-contained ships, so I wouldn't have known anything was different just from the names. Makes sense they can interchange them though.
    Also, gotta be that guy again: line one says "here if the tug Joyce L..." Just a little missed consonant.
    And the end of paragraph 3 reads that if you WERE aware the swap had occurred, you would never know they don't normally operate together. Parsing the multi-negative took me some time, but I think it should say if you WEREN'T aware.

    Glad I read the description. I thought the odd thing was it is not -500 degrees and no 80mph wind.🥶🌬

    Yep,as you can see here,a Laker is pretty much just a glorified barge,but with more people.And pretty soon they wont be needing people anymore either.after all,youre biggest expense is labor.

    Are freighters now just barges? Did I miss that?

      About 25% of large bulk carriers on the lakes are integrated tug-barge combos. Most are still traditional self-contained ships… even if some argue that they look like barges.

    Do they ever tow ? Or just push gear.

    • @1Long2Short
      @1Long2Short  14 днів тому

      These types of tugs were built for pushing. Other types on the lakes can tow.
