    Titan, I love the enthusiasm and passion you bring to this trade. The future of this world is going to be built on technology and knowledge and you are making it available to everyone. Thank you!
    We got a challenge in the shop recently and we have to run a material I had never heard of called Alloy 48 which turns out to be a seriously bad azz metal. There's lathe work and mill working separate ops, we have to hit a surface finish of 16 and many of the features are toleranced to +/- .0002". Might be something for you to do a future video on.
    Wishing you the best.

    • @brandons9138
      @brandons9138 4 роки тому

      Alloy 48 is a 48% nickle alloy, with the rest being Iron. It's not terribly hard, but it's gummy, work hardens quickly and is a bitch for chip breaking in turning applications. It falls into Group B in the nickel based alloy category.

    • @xenonram
      @xenonram 4 роки тому +3

      @@TheFeralEngineer Tata who decided to sponsor him. He'd look pretty stupid with an empty shop because he didn't want Doosan's machine. Imagine him saying, "We got ONE Mori. Hopefully by this time in 2022 well be able to get a second one. I didn't want to accept the 15 machines that Doosan and Tormach wanted to give me, because they're not as good." See how stupid that sounds? Also, it's not 2010 anymore, and even machines like Haas and Doosan can outperform most operators who don't have the skill to run them. CNC machining isn't just pressing a button, and most machinists don't have the skill to use high-end machines to their full potential anyways. Look at John Grimsmo. He can't get that Kern, that costs the better part of $1M, to make decent parts, and he's been running high-end machines (DMG Mori Seiki and Nakamura Tome) for a half-dozen years. He's still learning. The gap between high-end machines (DMG, Mazak, Okuma, Nakamura, Brother, Datron) and cheaper machines (like Haas and Doosan, not including Chinese machines) are getting to be less and less. It's not like it was 5, 10, 20 years ago where those high-end machines were leaps and bounds above cheaper machines. High-end machines have plateaued to almost a pinnacle, and cheaper machines have continued to get better. It's like Snap On vs Craftsman hand tools. You can't make a ratchet wrench get much better than a Snap On, so it has plateaued and can not get any better but a Craftsman ratchet wrench has continued to get better, while being 80-90% less money. Most mechanics/technicians will never use the $25 Craftsman ratchet wrench to the point of failure, so why buy a $125 Snap On one? The Craftsman version is 95% as good as the Snap On, while costing 80% less and having a lifetime warranty. You'd be a fool to buy the Snap On. (And "I buy Snap On because of the convenience of the truck coming to the shop, so I don't have to go to the store," is a stupid justification. As most tool purchases can be done online.) If the Craftsman ratchet breaks or wears out, you get a new one free. The Snap On breaks or wears out and you have to buy a rebuild kit that costs as much as the entire craftsman ratchet. LOL. Usually, the people that think that the high-end machines are WAY better than the cheaper machines, are people who run manual machines in a tiny shop, or they run ONE CNC machine and act like they know about differences between high-end and cheaper machines. None of this would be possible if it weren't for Doosan and Tormach. So you've got 2 options. 1) Buy one or two high-end machines, not have money left over for other things, and most importantly, not be able to run the academy. 2) Take the best of what you can get so you can accomplish your goal, and be able to teach, reach kids in schools, and provide educational content through the academy.

      ok so you mean roundness. My days in aerospace machining, making titanium parts for military would part off out of round and varying degrees. it would be a lot less of a problem the shorter the bar was behind the chuck... to fix it, we would use granite surface plate and use indicator to find the high point and hit it with a mallet until it was in tolerance.

    Dear sir:I just wonder why CNC controllers your plants are deploying do not subsidize some from Cincinnati milacron CNC controllers?
