Hunting Wild Pigs | The Element

- River bottoms are crawling with pigs in Texas. However, you need to bust through the thick stuff to flush them out. It's tradition around these parts to chase hogs down in the dead of winter when they're fat and tasty. We've been doing it this way for quite some time. It's utilitarian, effective, and it's a dad gum good time! Presented by @onXHunt

MeatEater is better than this. Wanton waste, poor gun safety, disrespect of the pig...... This is some good footage for the anti-hunting groups. Let’s be more ethical and good conservationists.
"Wanton" is the word that you're looking for. Not "want and."
Yes. You’re correct.
Texas doesn’t have wanton waste laws with pigs …. We don’t respect pigs here you hippy 😂😂
This was one of my favorite videos in all of modern hunting vids. Reminds me of the old VHS we used to watch in the hunting trailers way back. And if you can’t stand them backstrapping hogs go buy you a few hundred acres in south Texas and see if you don’t change your opinion. Things are like rats. Rats w delicious backstraps.
all you took were the backstraps?
I was thinking the same thing! Absolutely disgraceful and a waste! Zero honor and respect for this
That is some thick country to hunt. I’m reading all the negative comments. I don’t know if the footage is providing an accurate account for the safety piece. The Element crew is top notch and I don’t thick they would be doing things unsafe. Pigs are an invasive species and as far as I know there no bag limit. Just taking the back straps is most likely legal for them. We can all have our opinions on that as far what we would do. I’m not going to place judgement on these guys for one bad video. They done a ton of good ones.
Man I could listen to 3 dudes in a boat tellin stories with that accent all day. Cool podcast idea.
Backstrap and release on Meateater? What happened to the Nilgai episode? I wonder if this Element stuff is consistent with the brand ethos. If it is, I guess I need to find a new favorite brand.
Go elsewhere, no waste in nature. Tired of my way or the highway people.
Man, I've followed Meateater for a long time, own all of rinellas books, listen to a couple of the podcasts. That being said: this is the worst trash you guys have put out. The only reason I made it over half through this was that I had one of my babies on my lap eating, otherwise I'd have changed it much quicker.
Haha 😂 glad I’m not the only one. This was terrible and I constantly praise all meat eater stuff. I made it 11 mins in but only bc I was cooking and couldn’t change it.
Genuinely surprised that Steve or cal would put their names on this stuff ... Kinda disappointed. Thought meat eater was better than this
@@aaronshewring2924 man, it was all around bad. Like they trashed the one pig, all but the back straps, they basically ran around a swamp with shotguns just hoping to bump a pig, trash gun safety. This whole thing should be trashed. I hope to God this isn't going to become a regular show of theirs.
@@joshhubbard me too. Maybe Matt Rinella is right and it's run it's course.
Full-heartedly agree. If this is the new MeatEater, I'm gonna start wearing Sitka...
The element guys have a fantastic podcast and I imagine they have some big shoes to fill here on meateater following steve, arguably the best to do it. My two cents to you guys is to elaborate on relationships with fellow hunters and you have to be on your A game representing meateater and its community. With this one I think you could of left out that first pig for that reason and elaborate on your fathers relationship while he gets his boar. Happy hunting.
I agree, as a brand new hunter who has began this journey because of an interest in acquiring wild game meat I can't understand why you would leave most of it behind. In my hunter education they taught me that hunter have a code of ethics, just because you can doesn't mean you should
@@dimensionsofearth When it comes to environmentally stable, native species, you are right. What many of you fail to understand is that backstraps, hams, and ribs have nothing to do with the ongoing ecological disaster Hogs are causing in the southern US. Most hog hunters I know keep enough meat for everyone they know that is willing to put in a little processing work (which is very few people, typically) to remain fed for free. Even those that keep NOTHING and discard entire Hogs are making a positive impact for our land and wildlife while misguided people like you make your case for morality while doing nothing.
I do see what you are saying and I agree. However if you have talked with hunters who enjoy hunting and eating feral hog they aren't exactly looking to eradicate the species. In fact a lot of animals go through increased redproduction when under pressure; a study shows that progesterone levels were higher in female wild boars that live in regions of high hunting pressure and roam in a group. Such elevated reproductive hormones, which were associated with high hunting pressure, may lead to a higher reproductive potential in female wild boars. So as far as sending a certain message to hu ters about overall ethics seperate from the idea of wiping out and invasive species, in this case the goal didn't seem to be that.

Way to go guys! Sulphur Springs finest right here!
What kind are of shot were they using?
I understand why people are upset, but I think the criticism is misguided.
The real crime here is the editing and the camera work.
All of the complaints listed here in the comments would be resolved if those two pieces were handled better.
What state are you guys in
Who puts meat in a garbage bag? I used to love MeatEater content, can't say that anymore.
@@BG-bx4eywhere's the cooler of ice in their boat? We use meat bags in Hawaii, a garbage bag will spoil meat by the time you get to the truck.

MN Wild hat. Nice.
To the guys complaining about not taking the whole hog, do you eat coyotes or other pest or varmits you kill? While not as good as elk or deer its still edible meat.
And to the guys complaining about the safety aspect this really isnt any diffirent than a deer drive. While not the safest form of group hunting they still planned what they were doing and kept communicating the whole time.
pretty bush league i dunno about running with firearms lads lol
Running is just like walking , just faster

Lovin these guys from the element that was a smart scoop up

From Start to Finish, this video demonstrates terrible firearm’s safety and poor hunter ethics. First time being disappointed by The Element content. This content does not represent what I would want to portray to fellow hunters or provide to the non hunting public. Do and be better
Over 22 thousand views and only 787 likes tells alot.
This video has a higher ratio of likes / views than the last couple of hunt videos they put out 😂😂😂😂
I'm always excited to see an ME episode posted and then dissapointed when it's this crap. This shit just brings down the brand
No matter how you justify it, just taking back straps, is lazy and brings you closer to killing for fun and lack of respect for life. Just made me unsubscribe.
Where's the cooking part? Love the video, feels like I'm missing something. Damn, never thought I'd be complaining on UA-cam...
Wth is this rubbish? You can buy back strap at the grocery store or butcher for a lot cheaper than it cost in fuel and ammo if that’s all you were after 🤦♂️
Not only did you include the killshot in the video, you had to announce it...
And it was awesome 😂
Not what I expect from the MeatEater brand.. This goes against everything I’ve seen from them.
I'm clicking off just cause the weapon of choice. shotguns?? seriously? hunting feral pigs? what happens if your stumble into a herd of them? you're playin with your lives..
Wild pigs are not dangerous 😂
@@Michaeldpress14 you are insane.. or ignorant... wild pigs not dangerous????
you seriously think that?? @@Michaeldpress14
There’s only ever been 4 deaths in the United States from wild hogs EVER! They aren’t that dangerous. And they normally run away. The horror stories you’ve heard are wives tales.
200 people a year get gored to death by white tail deer. You’re more likely to get killed by a deer than a hog.
What a waste, only taking the back straps!?! The show is called MEAT EATER NOT CHOICE CUTS! Does anyone else see the irony in this? What a black eye for hunting. I am in disbelief, had to turn it off.
I'm 11 minutes into this garbage, and turning it off.
I hope this isn't a sign of things to come for MeatEater.
I love Meateater but I am not a fan of this at all. I believe you should utilize as much of the animal as possible or don't hunt it at all. Very distasteful watching them cut out the backstrap and just leaving the rest to rot..
There’s a lot to dislike about this vid. Probably the worst of Meat Eater content. Firearm safety seriously lacking. Only taking the back straps…? This isn’t responsible hunting.
Regardless bro you don't leave the whole Animal there....that's just sad.
@BG-bx4ey ive been hunting since I was 6.... odc whats your point. This is uncalled for and lazy
Gawdammit now I’m invested in what happed to piglly
I've never been this worried about if they will shoot each other watching Meateater.
That's why it's the Un-important ones in this video..lol.... and also why Steven would NEVER take just Backstraps and leave the rest.

These liberals would go nuts if they saw how most etx pig hunting goes
Never been on Hogs without Dogs but it looked fun
At least get the hams also man!!!
Wild Pigs are an invasive species and considered a nuisance. They wreak havoc on native species and their habitats, not to mention damage to agriculture and farmland in some regions. Most states do not require a hunting license to hunt hogs on private and also do not require a hunter to slavage any of the carcass. Id say that an overwhelming majority of hog hunters do not eat any of the meat at all. Comments section is full of idiocy.
So if a hunter has a different opinion on how to handle game after harvested, it is idiocy?
@@commoncorysense1809 NO guy. That's precisely my point. People are judging these dudes for what they are doing. Do whatever the F you want with the hogs. But don't run your mouth about what these guys are doing.
I understand that happens and why it does. But showcasing it on the most popular hunting channel isn't helpful.
@@adamnorthenscold7441 showcasing it on this show is very important. People need to stop living in their confirmation biased bubbles and joint the real world.
The story he told about the pigs in the house😂😂😂

900 Yamaha?🧐
Seriously yall...only taking the backstraps? I've trapped a lot of hogs, over 40 in two years, and only left behind 3 large boars that were nasty/ had infections and pushing 300 pounds on the hoof. The rest of them made fine sausage from the quarters, and the backstraps make nice chicken fried chops! I know they are just wild pigs that multiply faster than we can count, but leaving them quarters behind was just wasting meat and setting a bad example for the hunting community as a whole by sending the wrong message to "non hunters". A lot of people probably clicked off and didnt watch to the end where you took the whole second hog. Just sayin.
There's more than can be handled out there. They'll decompose and put nutrients back where they came from, so who cares?
I agree about not putting that on film since most people don't understand that.
I let the coyotes eat
@@hellyabrother27recently on the podcast, a trapper gives CPR to a martin that got caught in his trap and revived it. The man could of left it to decompose but didn't, has gotten praise. In other words just bc you can leave it to rot, doesn't mean you should.
They literally drug a whole pig back and loaded it in the boat....not everyone has to do everything the way you do it
@@pazjolie71stupid excuse, every hunter I know hates coyotes way more than pigs. Why feed them?
I was shocked too that this was a meat eater episode for a number of reasons. First was the wild runs with loaded guns. Then handling of the baby piglet to more wild runs with loaded guns. It was very unsafe and bad for this show that I respect.
Btw what happen to the original cast, I like Steve Renelli more. He's a more respectable person and hunter. He also respects hunting and the games more.
@@BG-bx4ey You're responding to the wrong person here. Do my research? As a 30 year hunter I know all too well about the pig problems in some states. However, this is not a pest eradication show. Its meat eater of which is a respected show. I have hunted from blinds to miles back country. I am saying again it is dangerous to hunt and run like that with a loaded gun. You said it yourself you wouldn't recommend that to everyone. Well, I would not recommend that to ANYONE! Accidents happen every year because of unsafe hunting and handling of guns. You went after box blind hunters, most of them are much more safer than what I'm seeing on this show. Don't misunderstand here, I am saying again this is a respected show and I feel like what some people are saying that this episode is not worthy and should not have been on meat eater. If this is where they're going so be it there are other great shows out there. Now if you support this type of dangerous hunting style so be it. To each their own.
I really hope The Element keeps making meat eater content. The Buck Truck has been some of my favorite stuff to watch. Along with almost all the other hunts too.
This is the first time I’ve been disappointed by a meateater video. I hope this doesn’t become the norm.
I would like to see more episodes in Netflix ❤
their contract is over
I would not want this content to represent hunters on any platform
I’d rather see more on yt
Heck yeah 🔥

Way too many keyboard warriors. Great hunt y'all!
The gatekeeping comments continue.
Maybe I'm just uneducated on what they are doing, but I sure didn't enjoy watching it. I am well aware of the issues of wild hogs... but this felt all sorts of wrong. I view MeatEater as an educational platform that up until now has done a hell of a job demonstrating some darn good hunting ethics. WTF was this? I know "backstrapping" is a common thing to do, but that doesn't mean its the right thing to put on this channel that has a lot of influence on the new generation of hunters. Do better, MeatEater. Does Steve know you put this on the internet?
We have nothing to compare that to in WI. Looks fun though.
Unfortunatly. Wild hogs will likely be as far north as WI in our life time.
@newera4k333 That'll be horrible for the environment and farming, but fun to eradicate!
Bravo!
Meat eater needs to disassociate from these two chuckleheads. Aside from the personality of the Long haired one, to see a "Hunter" kill an animal for just the backstraps is disgusting. I have hunted for close to 30 years and am by no means an expert like most of the meat eater cast. I would never disrespect a kill like this. When I harvest a mature pig, I keep everything, and it tastes just as good as farm raised pork. This is disgusting meateater.i thought they preached conservation and respect for wildlife. This is ammo for anti-hunters for sure.
Pigs in Texas do not need to be conserved . They are not a game animal . These dudes likely kill hundreds of pigs every year …. Do you expect them to eat everything ?? Educate yourself
OMG the baby pig

The Buck Truck has been some of my favorite stuff to watch.
Mr Butch!!! Love the guest appearance
Upon second watch, and thought.....this video is not what I would expect, as an advocate consumer of MeatEater, to be the ethos of the MeatEater franchise. We all make mistakes, and I think this may be one.
