Meraviglioso bravissimo Lully!
this is one of my favorite movies and very important for me also cause im a countertenor and im studying to Lully's music sadly i lost the movie and now i can't buy it again , cause here (i live in México) they don't sell it anymore here only the sountrack is available :(
This is untrue because "Dies Irae" by Lully was composed in 1683 for the Queen Marie Thérèse funeral (Louis XIV's wife) and not for the Queen Anne d'Autriche funeral (Louis XIV's mother) who died in 1666. Here it miss the Bass singer part between Orchestral Ouverture and Choir reprise (Dies Irae, Dies Illa, Solvet Saeclum in Favilla, Teste David cum Sibylla / This day will be the day of towering rage when this world will be crushed in ashes. That's what David and the Sibyl asserted)
Unfortunately the requiem is not on the soundtrack, this is the reason I put the information about the motet Dies Irae in the description. You can find it on amazon.
artgo2000: BLESS YOU!! I was going crazy looking for this piece on the soundtrack. Well, o.k., I didn't actually buy the soundtrack, I was looking through the tracks as listed on Amazon - all 35 of them, typing each one on UA-cam, hoping someone uploaded a version of that track on UA-cam... NOTHING! I kept thinking did I miss it somehow!? Thanks so much for the info, and for uploading this clip. Now I know to buy 2 CDs, the soundtrack AND Lully's Dies Irae.
What's ironic about this piece is that it's probably closer to how things happened than any documentary : Louis XIV was the first to bring music/orchestra on the battlefield, exactly that kind of stuff... That King is recognized for having astoundingly raised standards for science, Culture and Arts, then after spreading throughout Europe while leading us into the Age of Enlightenment. "Louis The Great, the Sun King".
He sure was, or the young fellow who played him was! George Blagden in Versailles, played a pretty good-looking Louis, as well! As a young man, Louis 14, was good-looking as a young man!
I enjoyed solemn, dark Baroque music like this--with drums in the opening. Who else wrote music like this? And why were drums not incorporated more with dark strings? This is his 'Dies Irae', I think.
The mother of the king LuisXIV has just died, and he's bewailing her. they hadn't been in good terms, so i think the scene is quite interesting. the way he realises that he has lost someone close, and so on.
what if someone is so poor that cannot buy it (I am from eastern europe, and i can't get these videos else, because they are too expensive for us... i bring the two kids alone...)
Lorena Melis 2008

Abbraccio di Brasile
I'm so obsessed with Lully and his music since this movie. Now I have three versions of Dies Irae. Still, this version is the best for me.
Me too, once I heard his music I was besotted! I am completely hooked on all his magum opuses! Simply brilliant, I love this film so much too!
It gives acces to ones deepest emotions indeed ! Unveiling what was already there.... Absolute magnificent.......
The music is like heaven

Leaders we need nowadays !
The Headbutt is beautiful as much as the music
brilliant movie...
Where can I watch it?

2:27 blud had enough😭😭😭
It's 'Le Roi danse', translated 'The King dances'. It's a french movie, very beautiful, both the music and the pictures. A recommandation!
the drums change it to a completely different thing

Lully, the stylish italian.

Surprisingly, Louis XIV is handsome in this film.
He sure was, or the young fellow who played him was!

this my favourite track, i just bought the soundtrack because of this piece and then it wasn't on the CD XD

Where can I find this film? It is fascinating & beautiful! Can anyone help me?
yeah, thanks to your information i could find a cd with the piece on it at a local store yesterday. thanks so much (:
which cd?
Is it Lully, great, pretty, sacred, holy, colossal, constant in Lully
I hope you could listen the "Te Deum" of Lully for the Sun King, it's fantastic! Almost 40 minutes of music.

ALL THE psychological + emotional part is absurd, but the music is wondeful
It is so sad, we can´t watch the full movie on UA-cam any longer.
Wanting something you don't want to spend money on is hardly a reason for stealing.
you don't need it, you just want it.
Buy the DVD. You can do it.
Do what the French did in 1789 : the revolution !
