    A little bit of information.
    The tram is a single 4,7-mi-long line that connects Volchanka and Lesnaja Volchanka, the only two neighbourhoods of the city. 13 stops, russian gauge, 7 trams and a tractor to push snow of the tracks. The forest route is, basically, the space between the two neighbourhoods.
    Volchanks is 11,000 people.

      Wow. My town in the US has a little over 11K people and not even a tram or bus line. It's pretty dystopian because up until the 40's and 50's people here still used horse and buggy and homes on main street still have carriage houses.

    Forced to watch a 30 second ad before a video with Power Point with some shots of the train. Name of the town? Nope. Population of the town? Nope. How many stops on the tram? Nope. How long is the length of the tram? Nope. Any information at all beyond saying that German prisoners built it? Nope. If you were a student handing this in as an assignment, I'd fail you for the half-ass job at providing literally no useful information at all.

    I am glad this city has a tram. It is a shame that some people just can't seem to obey the rules here. Trams help ease congestion. Eventhough this is a very small town but a way to beautify a small town is to do it with Transit Oriented Development or TOD for short. TOD gets rid of the filth. In major cities, it rips down crack houses, things like that and puts coffee houses and grocery stores in their places.

    • @roy_hks
      @roy_hks 7 років тому +11

      Streetcar1664 Wtf, that city doesn't need a tram. It needs beautification

    • @Korschtal
      @Korschtal 7 років тому +8

      The changes follow the tram because land values increase along tram routes, although that depends to some extent on the taxation systems. In Germany a town will invest in the infrastructure knowing they'll get the money back in increased taxes.
      There's a flip side though: the real estate developers make a killing buying and selling the land and taxpayers pay for the infrastructure. And it isn't just 'crack houses' that vanish, but also often affordable housing, because Landlords can charge more.
      Of course, dealing with the problems that cause crack houses would be a good move as well.
      I'm not arguing against trams though. that'd be a bit silly as I use the only rack tramway in Germany every day...

    1910 Woltersdorf had 2.517 inhabitants. 2016 8.163 (thus still smaller than Volchansk).
    Length is quite similar. Also that it runs partly through the forest (from 13:30 in the video).
    On special occasions they operate also their original street car from 1913.
    ua-cam.com/video/TmNtt1lkgUE/v-deo.html
    Even older (1887) and shorter (1,91 km) the steam tram at Prien (Bavaria).
    ua-cam.com/video/HQkhaC6KHkI/v-deo.html
    Operates however only in Summer (from begin on). And - despite using steam tram technology (max. speed 20 kph) - it is not operated under street car legislation but under Lokalbahn (minor regional railway) legislation.

    Not even small towns in Germany have even a tram, what is really sad, because the politics doesn't allow this effort, also the demand is really low. Our smallest tram route is located in a State Saxony-Anhalt in the City Naumburg, where (like in the smallest Russian town) trams from the 60s to the 70s driving their daily route.

      Actually, you are right in a sort. The town on a steady decline from the peak of 25 000 citizens in the late 1950 to 8 885 nowadays. The German POWs and the mines and factory they worked in was the only reason it grown this size to begin with.

    The track, while definitely bumpy, isn´t a major safety hazard as if you look at videos of Field Railways / Feldbahn´s you can see trains carrying quite heavy loads over these kinds of rails without issue. Chances are the tram is designed to run on these kinds of uneven and rough tracks.

      Look at Moscow or other large cities. The trams are very new. Look at USA small cities, the busses are mostly at same condition as this tram. So is in most other countries. New stuff goes to big/major cities.

    • @AlmeersOV
      @AlmeersOV 7 років тому +3

      No, you need new brains. Just because this small town has old trams doesn't mean all of Russia has old trams. Moscow, for example, has modern trams. And besides: what did you expect? This town is so small and it even has bus service, it's a miracle this tram system is still alive! In a lot of other countries, small towns like this would've lost their tram service already. So with all that in mind, I don't blame 'em for running such an old tram on this line 'cause the costs of a new tram wouldn't justify.

    "faster more profitable": Citation needed. These things are objectively cheaper to operate and maintain. The only reason bus lines might be more profitable on paper is because they're externalized (e.g the government pays for and maintains those roads).
