The mid/mid-to-low segment of the market is not only very price oriented but also "specs oriented. "The most specs for X amount of money" such as screen size, resolution, storage, etc. Nothing is trying to compete in such market but by selling design, style and build quality. It's a different strategy and they are bold. I've seen many reviews on UA-cam and not one tech reviewer mention this. They keep taking about specs on chineses brands, samsung specs, how Nothing phone 1 compares spec wise to this or that. That is not the point of this device. Nothing is making pretty much zero margin on Phone 1 to reach that price for the quality they are offering. Not only that but they hired hundreds of engineers to optimize just for fluidity and consistency.
This actually isn't a bad phone for the money. These days it's around ₱25,000 for the 8/256 variant. Is it a good deal? Depends how you look at it. If you think it's more expensive than most phones with the Qualcomm 778G, yes it's a bit pricey, but do consider that it's not just the SoC you're buying. At this price you're getting an SoC that's just one notch below flagship SoCs, but you're also getting solid build quality, wireless charging, a unique design, an OS that's highly optimized for efficiency and is free of bloat, competent cameras, 5-year software support, a very good display that's uniform around the edges, etc. Achieving that last one is actually no small feat because you need a bendable display (that costs more) to hide the display connector that's the reason why phones have 'chins'. It's practically similar to the iPhone's uniform bezels, and the OLED screen is very decent and color-accurate as well. So is this phone a good deal? I would think it is. Not a flagship killer but you can do a lot worse with ₱25K.
I own 1 and it's a star! I have iPhone 12 as my personal phone and now I switch to nothing as my personal phone where I use iPhone for my work. I love having a regular update with actual improvement. When you have iPhone you'll notice on every releases they down grade the older models camera capabilities to help the newer standout and it sucks!
Hi guys. I wanted to ask: 1. Can you delete the persistent Google search bar on the home screen? 2. Can you install 3rd-party launchers? If Yes has there be any known bugs or compatibility issues especially with gestures? 3. Is there Dolby Atmos or some spatial audio feature or equalizer? 4. Has the muffled audio pick-up when recording a video been fixed? 5. Between a Nothing Phone 1 vs Poco F4...which in your opinion is better in terms of screen quality and camera photos & videos?
I can only answer a couple questions. 1. Yes, you can delete the google search bar. I did the same :) 2. Yes, you can install a third-party launcher but I guess it depends your launcher how smooth it runs. 3. Haven't found those feature so no. 4. Instead of the stock camera app I use the Gcam Mod on my NP1. Much better photos quality in every aspect.
1. Yes you can. I personally don't have it. 2. Yes you can install 3rd party users. I used one at the start, but I'm now using the NothingOS launcher. 3. It doesn't have Dolby Atmos, but I personally use wavelet. It's a great app that allows you to equalise different outputs. I've turned my phone to make my speakers even better. 4. I didn't have the phone when this was an issue, but certainly no complaints with the audio recording. 5. I chose the NP1, so that's what I'd go with
I am looking to upgrade my phone to this one due to the price range, its an affordable phone along with wireless charging capabilities...well you can look for outdated flagship phones that you can buy for 20k above but OS would not be updatedable
The phone is nice and unique. However, price is not competitive compared with other brands of the same specs. I'm waiting to have a good price offer before I purchase. It is a collectible unit anyway.
if you can name another dual sim *stock* android with Nothing's specs and features and guaranteed software support, i would like to know. cant use pixel i have TWO prepaid sims. Apart from this, I like it a lot and I do like the glyphs, because for years I've always put my phone with the screen down when working.
I would boil it down to iOS vs Android. If you don't mind iOS and want more smoother experience, I'd choose iPhone. If you want Android and its customizations, a phone that's different and don't mind the experimental journey (Though I feel Android 13 will make it more smoother, 12 was not a good android for every device imo), Nothing is the one. Almost perfect but it needs to compete with the Samsung phones to be the perfect all-arounder especially when it comes to price and camera performance. It is almost at the A53/A73 category but not that close
The build quality on Samsung a53/a73 is just plastic, compared to premium build quality on Nothing phone (1) which is Gorilla glass 5 and aluminium frame and yes it's symmetrical bezels.
