I rode those cars many, many times over the years Leonard's operated the subway from the parking lot to the store basement. I don't doubt I've ridden that car a few times. Good to see at least one of the originals was saved from scrapping.

Ditto. LOVED the subway and always looked forward to it about once a month when mom would take us downtown to shop at Leonard’s and to get our hair cut at the dollar barber college. It was a great outing.

LEONARDS DEPARTMENT STORE was in Fort Worth Texas. Its subway connected it to a parking lot blocks away. After it closed building was HQ of TANDY / RADIO SHACK. Tandy rolling stock was boxy, this was styled 1940's chrome sided.

The Boxy Cars WERE the 1940s Chrome-sided cars. They were rebodied in 1991 after parts became scarce and rust got to the bodies. One 1 car were preserved in it's original body style, the one in the video. Marty (the woman in the video) made sure, that one car was left alone just to preserve the history of how the cars looked before reboding long before the subway closed.

I'm wondering where this is located, I would love to see it! Used to ride those old cars a lot when I was a kid in the 60s and 70s.

The location looks like 300 Throckmorton St, Ft Worth TX. Who knows if it is still there.

I'm curious as to why this Leonard's subway car was never modified like all the others were giving them a boxy appearance.

Dan Uscian when they converted to the modern-looking cars, I believe they intended to scrap this unit instead of converting. However, it was bought by some preservation group.
