With the high birth rate and eyes on both sides of their head, they are clearly evolved from prey species, not predators. Which makes Tuchanka even scarier. Krogan biological evolution was pretty well thought out by Bioware. I'm less sure about Krogan social evolution, though. I would expect a prey species to have more of a herd mentality rather than being individualistic. Humans are individualistic and yet highly social because our primate ancestors were scavengers rather than prey, so we have more in common with dogs than horses. (Humans as predators is a very recent thing in evolutionary terms.) I'm not sure how the Krogan made the transition to hunter/gatherers. But now that I think about it, with a sample size of one (us), we can't make too many assumptions about how tool making might develop. I guess they could have discovered tool making, and then moved to something resembling hunter/gatherer from which their society could develop from.
Well humans reached the top of the food chain because of our ingenuity - we have serious disadvantages to most predators. We don't have strong teeth or claws. What we have is our intelligence and adaptability. I imagine it's the same for the krogan. They rose to dominate their planet because they developed the intelligence to defeat their natural predators.
Aw, I was hoping you'd close this one with "KER-plow!" 😂
Krogan have four testicles. Not the weirdest worldbuilding. Kangaroos have three vaginas.
