We just don't produce high quality players anymore. It's simple as that. Even Czechia has surpassed us. I bet in next 10 years Germany, Switzerland and Slovakia start producing better players than Finland. Actually Germany has already started having good junior program. There are lots of talented German NHL players. We had a good run but our decline is evident. Atleast we are not favorites to win any tournaments so we don't have any pressures.
@@NordicWiseguy Thats not true. I watch international hockey very closely and our (Czech) youths are still behind urs. There are some huge differences at training (atleast by what i know) - We have lot, lot and lot of harder dry preparation before ice which gives to our players more endurance....but in other hand ur players work more on technicall stuff, like 1 on 1 skillset, puck controll and etc... + better diet which is controlled by clubs - this is not existing in Czech. + Ur players have more trainings and matches in overall by what i heard from people which played in Finland. I think that main reason why we won is not that our players have better skillset, but because they have better will and hunger to win, to bring something home + leaders like Kulich. edit: BTW tho our next generations could be crazy good if everything goes well after changes in youth system.

That was some 50 seconds of pure horror for Finland hockey fans.
Finland this year sat back and defended as soon as they got the lead. And every time it backfired. 2-0, sit back; 5-2, sit back. Until it's 8-5. Jalonen was one legendary, irreplaceable coach for sure, and this new guy was the reason they lost.
That's why we need new "young" headcoaches and skill coaches who understand where hockey is heading nowadays...we are playing way too slow. Happens in mens and juniors and im getting little bit sick of it..
As a Swede I am disheartened that we can never win anything. Still proud of the team it has been a while since we actually got something else than bronze

Niklas Kokko is the worst goalie i have seen in the last 10 years and somehow he was playing in the quarterfinals, semifinals and bronze medal game even though Noa Vali was clearly the better choice. Kokko didn't play a single good game in this tournanent.

I was so defeated, every attacking effort outside of powerplays, it felt like we send the puck behind the net to then lose it to finns. Until we pull a goalie and actually entertain some passing in attacking 3rd and from that I can't describe my feelings of euphoria that happend in next few mins.
I know us Americans have an inherent cockiness about us, but the end of the USA - Sweden game was incredibly disrespectful. Unnecessary cross check, chirping the crowd, celebrating early and pausing for photo ops with time left on the clock… those kids are going to have their egos flattened when they start in the NHL.
the swedes are incredibly anti american. the crowd chirped the players the whole game being salty about them loosing despite having the refs on their side. they don't just have to take shit it was good that theyvstood up for their team and more importantly their flag!!! Go USA from Canada

In the shootout the Swedish audience boo'd loudly every time when a Finn was taking a shot and when Finland won, the scorer made the "shushing" celebration, which triggered the entire nation. Apparently it was "disrespectful". Being disrespectful seems to be a theme when it comes to young teams.
As a Swede the behaviour from Team USA in the final 2 minutes or so really pissed me off. They'd already won at that point, no need to start fights and mock the crowd. A stark contrast to Canada last year

The only difference between silver and bronze is which of the last 2 games of the tournament you've won. I was so proud of our guys when we won silver, but obviously devastated, that we lost the match. I am grateful that swedes whooped our asses in semis, because I don't think we could beat the US team. And leaving the tournament with a win felt better than last year's silver.
Yeah that is one of two mistakes pulled on us. Dont celebrate too early. We like to give last minute goals alot. Ask Sweden about 2010 WC. Do not try empty net, it will bite you.

Eck can you please talk about the ongoing issue of players turning at the last second. Lindholm hit york on the flyers and it was almost a major. These young guys are dumb turning at the last second and end up taking these hits going face and body forward into the boards. These guys need to learn to take a hit and if they are doing it to get a power play, then simply say there are no penalties when the guy turns along the boards at the last second.
Also eck I dont know if you can watch it but the pentalies being called are so soft, its embarrassing, hanifin had a cross check pentaly and weegar had a hooking pentaly. It's hard to watch.
That was brutal for Finland. Two collapses. Against the US and now Czechia. You can't just sit back and park the bus. That 2nd period against USA was GOD AWFUL, and how do you go from 5-2 when you scored two goals in like 20 seconds after they tied it 2-2 to make it 4-2, how do you go from that to conceding during your own powerplay before the intermission and then blowing it in spectacular fashion in the 3rd like that. I'd expect the Leafs to do that, not Finland.

If you can believe it, it's not the worst. At the 2010 Olympics they faced USA in the Semifinals. USA were 6-0 up before 13 minutes passed.
