I really like ModernGurlz's idea that they could've done a "Momento Mori" theme since the industry has lost so many influential creators in the last 5 years. A night to allow people to honour not just one, but multiple different designers such as Virgil Abloh or Vivienne Westwood for example. It would've allowed for a lot more variation.

Would you ever consider talking about the fashion in The Hunger Games, how it’s used to show the discrepencies between the Capitol and the districts, and how it’s a reflection on society today, e.g. the extravagancy of The Met Gala?
I’ve seen so many ppl make the comparison between the hunger games and moder day fashion and it just makes me laugh. Fashion has always been extravagant , either in today’s world or the Victorian era or the Middle Ages. God I can't with the waivy hair, i m talling about the brushing on each sides of the face. It's not that flattering and boring as hell. We re not in 2010 anymore !!
@@lamortsurledancefloor it wasn’t giving at all. How you style your hair really affects a look. I don’t know why they all seem to have some issue with wearing their hair up.
A lot of the outfits that were pink and/or exaggerated curves where in reference to the many times Karl Lagerfeld stated that he hated pink and that "no one wants to see curvy women". Cardi B and I'm pretty sure Ashley Graham's looks were an example of that. So were Grace Elizabeth, Harvey Guillén Quannah Chasinghorse, Lizzo and Kela Walker. I was surprised not to see that mention.
I personally think karl's dislike of pink has been super over-emphasized in the media. he designed many pink outfits throughout his career and naomi campbell, a longtime friend & collaborator of karl, wore pink last night as well. unless any celebrity says outright that they were protesting, i think it's probably giving them too much benefit of the doubt and taking away from celebs like jameela jamil who has vocally and persistently called out the met for their karl exhibition and who wasn't in attendance.
Quannah Chasinghorse praised Karl Lagerfeld in her interview. Most if not all of these people were not making any kind of statement, they were just wearing a pretty outfit to an event in his honor.

I dont really watch these type of videos, but the way mina le talks about these type of things really gets me interested. I look forward to watching her videos more.
I was hoping you would talk about Lil Nas X's look. The white cat theme used so differently between three guests was entertaining and very meme-able. Harvey Guillen was my FAVORITE. Having a body that Karl Lagerfeld hated and showing up in a beautiful soft pink tux/dress combo is bold. And Harvey looked so happy in it!
Was fully expecting Mina's lovely "Hello my beautiful doves" greeting, and was pleasantly surprised at the "Hello my sweet pearls". As much as I love the usual greeting, I like the little change up 💕
Harvey Guillén and Pedro Pascal had two of the best looks of the event imo, I'm surprised they weren't even mentioned here. Of the looks that were mentioned, Cardi B was the standout for me. Impeccably executed. Also would've been cool to hear you mention how much Lagerfeld hated pink and how a bunch of celebs showed up in pink in defiance of that, which I loved.
But he designed in pink all the time. He had whole collections of pink clothes. Maybe he personally didn't wear it, but he used it in his designs all the time. So much so that it's considered a classic Chanel colour.
She did it bc it needs to be said. So many commentators last night said a casual "controversial" footnote and moved along. It'd be incoherent and shortsighted for UA-cam reviewers to not mention the problematic sides of this designer

My favorite male look of the night (if not all-time) was FORSURE brian tyree henry. he just looked so extravagant and ate up the theme so effortlessly…i’m obsessed.
The Thom Browne looks ATE. Especially Sora Choi, chronically underrated and under mentioned in all the coverage. Especially with this being her first Met Gala.
Modern gurlz suggested in her met video a theme of memento mori to celebrate all the designers that have passed (who are arguably more deserving of celebrating then Karl) recently to both fix the problematic theme and encourage guests to wear more than archive
One of the things I love the most of your videos is that they feel like conversations I'd have with my besties while also learning something new in every single one of them, tysm Mina
The carpet is made by a brand (Neytt by Extraweave) based in Kerala, India. It is made of fibres from the bark of agave plants making it very sustainable. It was hand painted in the U.S., a process that took 60 days. I fully agree the carpet colors might not have been the best choice for complimenting the theme but let's not brush away the effort behind it:)
They coulda still made the carpet red and not washed out half the atendees, especially knowing Lagerfeld's long history with black and white clothing. The good intentions don't excuse the lackluster execution, especially for such a big event.
tbh I feel like a lot of the men killed it this year! taika waititi looked great, pedro pascal looked great, harvey guillen killed it. I also really liked phoebe bridgers' dress, she looked really nice, understated, I loved bella ramsey's suit as well as stephanie hsu's
It's not talked about but I really Love Sora Choi's look. I think it really display the Chanel Tweed aesthetic yet still remain so elegant and feminine, she just looked so good!
okay two things, 1. I wished you talked more about different men wearing in the met gala ik a lot were boring and literally simple but there were some that literally looked amazing like pedro pascal (for me), bad bunny, taika waititi, labrinth, shai gilgeous Alexander, Conan gray, Alton mason (a fav of mine), diddy, and one of my fav again brain tyree henry!! 2. I wish the the theme could be about different fashion designers that passed away and really shaped the creativity of fashion. it would be cool to see many different designers come up with ideas of their favorite designers passed away and bring a memorial to them. it would be touching to see and definitely fun to watch.
My favourite looks were definitely Lil Nas X, Pedro Pascal, Harvey Guillém, and Kristen Stewart. They all looked like they were having so much fun with the clothes.
I think the last time a Met gala actually caught my full attention was when the theme was "camp". After that idk what happened but my interest has dwindled but I often find my way here to watch Mina's commentary afterwards. Congrats Mina on surpassing a million subscribers!!! With what you said about people we barely know attending. I think it shows who got an invite from Anna Wintour and those who buy their tickets. Cause the ones who get invited actually follow the theme (Blake Lively and Zendaya are examples of who get invites.)

I loved that Kim's shawl was draped to look like two camellias as well, an easy to miss detail. Also that corset style with the dip was used (in the same sort of fabric) in the last schiaparelli collection.
Lol imagine if they did a “Fran Fine” theme, with a red and black carpet to represent her iconic black dress and red bag duo. I am telling you, the looks that could come from that would be ICONIC. Other themes I would die for: 1. Disney 2. Dynasty (the 80s show) 3. Fantasy

Disney. I would love that. But like the first comment said it may be considered too tacky. I'd love it though. Or how about pop culture in general, or iconic outfits from movies. A movie costume design theme!I'm a genius lol that would be awesome. When they did the American theme a few years ago I did wonder why there wasn't more references to movies and things like that.
I'm so glad you brought up Ashley Graham's dress because it's gorgeous and she looks amazing but I feel like no one's talked about it :((( so stunning, definitely my favorite too 🩷
Ugh Mina, I'm loving your hair. It's too good. I thought the bob was excellent, but man you rock that just-past-shoulder-length even better! You make me feel like straight fine hair can actually be pretty, like my own, especially paired with having a bigger forehead. I thought bobs with bangs is what I'd need to hide my head forever, but seeing how glamorous you look it makes me want to grow out my nasty, greasy, oily hair again lol. I just hope I can make it look as good!
the lack of foresight about the carpet when it was obvious most people would show up in B&W (name one person more allergic to color than karl lagerfeld) was awful. that said, my favorite looks of the night were the thom browne designs, i felt like he incorporated karl's essence on his own style, also the guys weren't wearing just boring black suits, so kudos to that
As someone who is usually a stickler for the theme, I applaud everyone who didn't wear Lagerfeld. Bonus points if they wore pink. Not sure why no one is talking about that moment when Karl posessed a roach and walked the carpet though...
The Choupette backstory is similar to how I got my cat, but mine's weirder. I met a cat when I stayed in a 2-month airbnb and fell in love with the cat, and a year later, I emailed the hosts asking if I could have him. And they said yes. So I drove him from New York to New Orleans and he's the love of my life still, ten years later!

Hasn't this been debunked? I keep hearing how people wore pink as subtle shade, but he actually designed in pink all the time, like whole collections of pink. One thing that is annoying me is the people giving brownie points to celebrities for wearing pink or wearing silhouettes "Lagerfeld wouldn't like". Would you ever consider talking about the fashion in The Hunger Games, how it’s used to show the discrepencies between the Capitol and the districts, and how it’s a reflection on society today, e.g. the extravagancy of The Met Gala?
Such a good idea!
I’ve seen so many ppl make the comparison between the hunger games and moder day fashion and it just makes me laugh. Fashion has always been extravagant , either in today’s world or the Victorian era or the Middle Ages. It’s nothing new and it doesn’t have anything to do with society other than the fact that it was always a clear way to differentiate between ppl who have money and ppl who don’t. ( excuse my English)
fashion has always been like that

I love all the accessories Mina is wearing! I wish more of the attendees had really gone OTT with the costume jewelry. It would of read more Lagerfeld idk lol

^^ second prt of the reply is very key
What are you talking about? Cardi b look wasn't very curvy by her standards, the masculinity also played a major role in uncurving cardi.
Quannah Chasinghorse praised Karl Lagerfeld in her interview. Most if not all of these people were not making any kind of statement, they were just wearing a pretty outfit to an event in his honor.
@@paulindec Karl said Heidi Klum was "too fat" to be on a runway, so I'm guessing most women were too fat for him

As much as I love the usual greeting, I like the little change up 💕
Somebody called the olivia wilde's dress a maxi pad and I haven't been able to get that image out
Please do a part 2 with people like Sara Choi and Anok Yai!! Thought they looked so good but so underrated
Harvey Guillén and Pedro Pascal had two of the best looks of the event imo, I'm surprised they weren't even mentioned here. Of the looks that were mentioned, Cardi B was the standout for me. Impeccably executed. Also would've been cool to hear you mention how much Lagerfeld hated pink and how a bunch of celebs showed up in pink in defiance of that, which I loved.
finally someone mentioning this!
Loved Harvey Guillén
Has Cardi B ever shown up to an event and looked NOT stunning? Genuinely asking, wouldn't be surprised if the answer is no
But he designed in pink all the time. He had whole collections of pink clothes. Maybe he personally didn't wear it, but he used it in his designs all the time. So much so that it's considered a classic Chanel colour.

Mina really stuck to the theme and I love it! Some of us can’t just pick an outfit from the Chanel archive and call it a day, now can we?
Modern gurlz suggested in her met video a theme of memento mori to celebrate all the designers that have passed (who are arguably more deserving of celebrating then Karl) recently to both fix the problematic theme and encourage guests to wear more than archive

The carpet is made by a brand (Neytt by Extraweave) based in Kerala, India. It is made of fibres from the bark of agave plants making it very sustainable. It was hand painted in the U.S., a process that took 60 days. I fully agree the carpet colors might not have been the best choice for complimenting the theme but let's not brush away the effort behind it:)
all that work and it still gave nothing
@@gmmyjce harsh but 100% true.
They coulda still made the carpet red and not washed out half the atendees, especially knowing Lagerfeld's long history with black and white clothing. The good intentions don't excuse the lackluster execution, especially for such a big event.
In that case I hope they don't just toss the carpet like they usually do, all that work for one-time use...

With what you said about people we barely know attending. I think it shows who got an invite from Anna Wintour and those who buy their tickets. Cause the ones who get invited actually follow the theme (Blake Lively and Zendaya are examples of who get invites.)
This is the type of fashion review we need, love your content and the reasoning behind your opinions.
I am telling you, the looks that could come from that would be ICONIC.

the lack of foresight about the carpet when it was obvious most people would show up in B&W (name one person more allergic to color than karl lagerfeld) was awful. that said, my favorite looks of the night were the thom browne designs, i felt like he incorporated karl's essence on his own style, also the guys weren't wearing just boring black suits, so kudos to that
