Thanks for the advice neilandfi, I've used Pinnacle Studio to edit the video and used mp4 as the output to UA-cam. I've since done a very similar edit and uploaded using WMV, but that is also poor quality despite using the highest quality compile available - just have to keep experimenting!

Great fun watching you guys surfing and canoeing, lots of jetsom to avoid, but the bore was very good - had no idea what to expect until it happened!
I used to struggle with the final step. Try one of the upload tools... I use one called the honestech vhs to dvd upload tool. It does more than vhs to dvd, obviously. There are several others like it, and it's a piece of hardware that sits between your camera and your pc....makes everything very, very easy.
Nice video, I was the bloke in the white vest, and enjoyed the ride.
