If there is one thing I could tell people at Disney, as a huge fan of the company, is that they are moving backwards. They underestimate a kid’s ability to understand. Their ratings will go down if they do not have show with an overarching plot. I remember being a little kid and wishing that the shows I was watching had more plot to them. There’s a reason Teen Titans remains so popular to this day. Because it wasn’t just another silly show with no real substance. Kids understand much more than these higher ups give them credit for and I wish they could see that. I remember watching duck tales and wanting more real plot, and when the new duck tales came out I absolutely loved it! Because there was an actual point! Re-runs are a thing of the past, give the kids good content for Pete’s sake!
Owl House was the first fandom in years that I actually caught wind of within the first season. It's great knowing Im watching with others and able to discuss it and show my support instead of discovering some awesome show years after it airs.
@Sokiaze same, watched the whole thing two months ago and I on the one hand was sad that I'll be on the journey much shorter than others, but at least I got experience it sooner than later.
It really suck that the higher ups of Disney were just like, "Nah doesn't fit the brand", that doesn't make sense to me. There are so many lack luster shows and something like this with actual development and story is exactly what they needed. Animated kids shows haven't captivated me since Avatar: The Last Airbender, a show I loved when I was growing up and still love as an adult today. Shows like Owl House, Amphibia and Infinity Train are all shows finishing too soon and its baffling that studios don't want to continue these amazing pieces of media. Sorry Disney that its not another bullshit live action but put some of that budget towards actual pieces of art will ya?
Exactly exactly exactly man I just don’t get it I just don’t understand I mean yeah I do get it but what is the logic TOH and amphibia are popular people enjoy them people are interested I’m sorry but one person can not just go oh it doesn’t fit the brand that just isn’t right it’s wrong on so many levels animated serialized shows are so much better then having dull shows for example like like well i mean I can’t really think of anything but you know what I mean hopefully my grammar isn’t that good but honestly I really couldn’t care less about it I’m really just ranting on at this point and I’m worked up and all of this because I care about this show like there are only 6 shows that have actually gotten my attention and I’ve said so many times and they are Steven universe star vs the forces of evil and gravity falls she ra the owl house and amphibia I’m not joking SU SVTFOE and gravity falls were there through out my teenage years and then I decided to watch she ra to try help me get over the fact that they all ended witch it sort of kind of work in some way then the owl house and amphibia came along and now they are are reaching their end as well seriously older audiences watch Disney channel because of theses sort of shows I mean theirs other shows on Disney that people watch that aren’t aimed for older audiences and that is 100% there’s no way I’m not saying that not ok for a grown adult to watch something on Disney jr oh heck no you’re age does not dictate your maturity my point is just because one person goes oh that doesn’t fit the brand just isn’t acceptable it shouldn’t be I’m older like that now I want shows that are more mature more representation for people that don’t have a voice kids need to know and learn that it’s ok to be the way they are be it having a disability and be accepted etc etc it just doesn’t sit right with me that something like this happens like I said it honestly just gets me all worked up
@@jturner2577 ok I think that’s a bit to far man I honestly just want to at least talk to the person find out why the decision was made like we honestly can’t just sit here and go ok it happened I guess but like I said if they want shows aimed for kids go to Disney jr and again if you’re a grown adult and enjoy Disney jr there’s no judgment here my point is they should aim for older audiences animated serialized shows are much better they just are
I still feel rlly bad for Dana since she said most of this was stuff was decided without her there and she was just told the decisions afterwards, like that's really messed up even if it's how business works there. Like imagine you create a show that hits close to home and gives high amounts of positivity and suspense to any and everyone who watches it, yet you can't be apart of the decisions that are gonna be made for you're creation, and you're just told what's gonna happen with your creation. You'd be seriously pissed and pulling all your hair out over that
I get the impression that it is a tradeoff, and it suits different audiences. Serialized shows are nice for having a bigger grander story build up over time. It is better for fans. It is something I personally prefer. Episodic shows are nice for being easier to keep track of. It is better for casual viewers. I guess it can be repetitive since episodes always end with the status quo. Heck sometimes characters even forget moral lessons they learned in a previous episode. This kind of amnesia would never happen in a serialized show.
As of now, The Owl House doesn’t seem to have a lot of merch that expands upon the lore of the Boiling Isles or the characters we know & love. I’m hoping once the show officially ends we can get some books, comics, maybe even more Owl Pellet shorts that could tell us more about the world and characters. Hell, I’d love to get some sort of spin-off about Eda in her younger days at Hexside! That would be really fun to read about
The results will likely be middling at best and contain various contradictions. The end result of The Owl House is a show that was ran by a woman who had no concrete idea of the kind of show she wanted to make beyond appealing to the Twitter crowd, especially if there's any truth to her various statements like "we wanted to make Luz gender-noncomforming but the executives denied us that privilege."
The argument against serialization is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. New viewers will not get lost watching a serialized show if the network as a CONSISTENT airing schedule. This lets new viewers jump right into the story and see each successive episode if they can depend on the network to air that same show at that same time. There are so many shows to which I saw when I was younger like Avatar, Pokemon, and Dragon Ball which I began watching mid-show. But the network was dependable and every week I could depend on them to air the next episode even if that episode was a rerun. It's absolutely insane for networks to expect their serialized shows to get sufficient ratings if they never air reruns.
Shit, the argument dies when you remember that the first original cartoon to show up on Disney Channel was Kim Possible. And while you can argue that most episodes are self contained, there is an overarching story.
Yep. When I was a kid, shows Aired weekly, on a fixed time slot. every Saturday/Sunday. 52 weeks per year. If new episodes ran out, they started showing the show from the beginning again, until a new season came out. Rinse and repeat. Or shows with more contend showed new episodes on Saturday, and old episodes in a daily slit during the week, sometimes really early in the morning. But If I got invested in a show because I glimpsed some of the newer episodes, then I would be interested getting up early to watch it daily. (Or record it even with VHR. Which nowadays is much easier with digitial content.) Hell. Just show reruns in the middle of the night for all I care, then parents can record them with their Digital Receiver, for the kids to show later and catch up
My 4 year old daughter absolutely loves Owl House and has learned so much from the show in terms of morals and attitudes, haha. She loves to pretend she's a witch and draws glyphs and tells me how excited she is for winter to be able to make an "ice pillar" like Luz. :) I knew something was odd when season 3 was only getting longer specials, and it's very sad to hear that the show is essentially canceled, when it definitely is something for younger people despite skewing older in audience. It's something we can watch together and it isn't so mindless parents can't enjoy. :P
I know Dana wants to have good faith about the reasonings for everything, but m a n . One thing’s for sure. This blows. Let’s keep showing our support in hopes for more content even beyond the show like the way Gravity Falls continues to linger in the public conscious due to all the neat tidbits we’ve gotten since it ended in 2016.
I think that Dana and her team manages finish the middle of season 2 that arrive possibly the month of December until the month of February when the hiatus is over in 2 months to Dana to have good faith. I hope i am not wrong.
Yeah we should do our part to support these types of series and hope they don’t get buried like what Cartoon Network did to Infinity Train and I haven’t even seen that show yet
I straight up don't understand how networks are so cautious of story-oriented shows and they're supposed 'lack of re-runability'. Avatar is straight up one of the greatest cartoons of all time, story oriented or not, and it got reran all the time. AND PEOPLE WATCHED IT. You know what ACTUALLY happens when kids happen to catch an episode of a show without context? They pick up on aspects that they CAN gleen from a random episode (a general plot idea, characters, humor style and tone, etc.) and decide either yay or neigh. If yay, the kid will do what they can to GET the context. Back in the day, that entailed asking friends who have seen the show/keeping an eye out for and consuming as many episodes as possible, order be damned. Nowadays, they can just get context from the internet. You think ANYONE who was a kid 10 yeas ago would start shows when episode 1 happened to air? No, I don't think I ever once started a show from episode 1 until Netflix became a thing. So news flash to network execs: CHILDREN ARE NOT STUPID! They are more than capable of gleening context and deciding if they'll stick with a show. Even if they're reasoning is something like "Cool, people in this show fight with superpowers!" or "I've known this character for 22 minutes and I love them :D", even the thinnest connection is enough to get them watching.
I literally got into Steven universe by finding out garnet was a fusion and listening to stronger than you. I was like. Damn. Let’s go. And watched the entire series.
Unfortunately, I’ve figured out that these companies recently don’t actually give a crap about actual results and just seem to do whatever crap they want, which seems to recently be tearing apart every cultural icon in our history they can and forcibly replacing them all with “better” characters that are just gender/race/sexuality swaps of the originals with zero personality save for being walking stereotypes. That and they love stripping female characters of femininity, and/or claiming that’s it’s sexist for men to find women attractive is any way. They also frequently vocalize how much they think that literally everyone who has a problem with their recent actions, including their long time fans, are all secretly mega nazis.
Personally, when I was a kid I preferred episodic shows. Because of school and my difficulties grasping the concept of time, I would often get lost on the concept of serial shows because I missed a lot of content. Episodic episodes were way easier for me because you can watch the series in a random order and they still make sense. Serial shows often distracted me from doing schoolwork, I kept researching how the next episode would progress, and I already had trouble focusing in class as it was. I don't think implementing more episodic shows has to do with networks belittling children's intellect, I think it has more to do with how invested they become in the content. There are some children with short attention spans and would rather watch something simple to unwind, and there are those like me who become overly invested in a television program and who probably have parents who aren't too keen on the idea of their child spending so much time watching television when they should be focusing on their studies (Children's show networks don't just cater to children, it's also important for the parent to approve).
I never saw an avatar episode in order till it showed up on Netflix. It was never about not understanding the episode order. When a show gets super popular they cut it.
So the whole reason we got cut short was because some exec desided to "play it safe" and stick with a brand people are getting tired of. Once again Disney has shown its grown too conformable being the "family friendly" face of entertainment. That is just a whole new level of pathetic. Well done Disney, (slow clap)
Gravity falls did so well for Disney when it aired back in the day. it pulled huge numbers, and its legacy is still felt to this day. yet for some reason they seem scared to do the same thing again. its so weird. like gravity falls proved that the concept of a serialized cartoon TV show not only works, but works WELL. why not go all in on that?
@@CallenderMan what's more wild is that they CLEARLY understand how big of a hit GF was, Just look at all the nods to Bill cipher they have scattered all over their various cartoons so it is not lost on them the significance of a show like that. yet they simply dont wanna do it again for some reason
ikr, i saw some people say good stuff about it and just decided to check it out expecting it to just be disney garbage. i have no idea how they can cancel it like this when it is nearly objectively the best thing they have ever put out. like, if i made a call this bad at _my_ job they'd sue me.
Dana has already said that the show will not continue after its finale airs. I believe she said this last July. And you know what? As long as it has a satisfying ending, that’s what matters most Best to end while still strong anyway before it overstays its welcome and gets stale (as what happened to Spongebob and Simpsons)
I definitely agree with the people saying the “Disney brand” is getting old, I stopped watching Disney for so long after Star and Gravity Falls ended but then the owl house and amphibia came along and got me to love it again, and I’m probably one of the younger people watching this, granted I’m technically legally considered an adult, but still!
Disney suits really don't deserve their creative staff at all. They really seem to take them for granted. IIRC it was Dana that said there was one particular suit that gave them trouble with the lumity aspects during pre-production. Wonder if it's the same guy.
Y'all remember how ATLA, the pinnacle of story-driven children's animation in the early 2000's, kept getting reruns? And look at how people are rewatching it to this very day! I've seen ATLA over 50 times by now. Come on Disney, do you want to be a beggar on the proverbial streets of animation, looking for the next show to tide you over until your next mistake, or do you want to build something that's going to stand the test of time?
Avatar was able to keep the story moving at a decent pace. It never really slowed to a snail crawl Unlike this show, which despite me wanting to like it a lot more but too often it just felt like nothing was really happening
When I heard this announcement via a video on Clownfish TV, I was confused by the "Owl House doesn't fit the Disney brand" part of the article; wondering what the "brand" was they were referring to. But after watching THIS, I now understand what that brand is; a preference of episodic shows over story-driven ones. While the whole thing DOES make sense, I find it sad that story-driven programming will barely get attention on modern animation these days; at least, in terms of cable/satellite broadcasting. I know streaming services can do such shows better justice...but with each Owl House, Amphibia, Young Justice or Gravity Falls that gets cancelled; they're later replaced by trash like Titans Go, Thundercats ROAR or some other cheaply made episodic reboot trash. Granted, I know that not EVERY episodic show is like this; Big City Greens, Craig of the Creek, Victor & Valentino and Gumball being HUGELY successful examples of such a brand. But...I still think story-driven programming SHOULD have an opportunity to shine
Here's my take on it While it's easy to look at the big wigs & the guy and think how stupid they are for passing up the opportunity There several factors in play here 1 - while these are "children's" shows a lot of them don't FEEL child friendly It's hard to explain as I'm Not a professional but compare owl house to how to train your dragon books Or infinity train to the book zathura You notice things such as a child's perspective among other things greatly changing the outcome, even for darker movements because of the way it's handled Next up. What views? Take lumity out of the Search bar and I can practically Guarantee Craig of the Creek,She Ra and even Amfibia have a lot more views on Social media Next a lot of these companies are selling to kids 8-13 specifically. They'll want shirts, toys shoes and more based on their favorite shows and the parents and older siblings are more likely to buy it for Even the most hardcore fanatic adult watchers generally only get a few Figurines and a t-shrit and stop there because money is tight OR they make their own stuff such as outfits and prop items from the show Nither shows a true interest at being a returning customer. Again unless it's something already big like Harry Potter a lot of teenagers get Mangas,Comics,Games & Anime None of above are a strong point these companies Especially seeing the decline of comics as a whole BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE look at the way Nick's Avatar, Gravity falls or even Gargoyles handed their storylines a lot of their Episodic Episodes had more lore given grudgingly and unknown Compared to the upfront "Canon" Episodes of a lot of these shows I apologize for rambling but thank you for taking the time to read it Hop your doing well yourself and have a good night
Yeah with the new inside job series created by Alex and Shion( both work in Gravity Falls) i'm really looking forward to Netflix right now. Netflix has the" adult cartoon" concept which allow many creator to have more freedom. For Disney, my hope for this evil company has shattered( i think that's the main reason Alex and Daron Nefcy decided to leave Disney).
I agree. Netflix has produced some amazing animated shows over the past few years like She-ra and the Princesses of Power, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, and Castlevania.
They have room to make interesting decisions. They pop out good animation like The Hollow and Castlevania but they also have some shows that push limits hard like Big Mouth and Q-Force. They border on being insulting to the audience and it has bitten them in the butt a bit.
When you think about it kid's are watching these shows and they don't even know what love is so why start pushing for these idea's Disney made the right choice in my opinion put those movements or stuff in adult cartoons or shows not in kid's programming
I love how Dana said "like any average Anime", suggesting she straight considers her show to be an Anime, at least in spirit. Matt Braly has said similar things, and honestly with Star Wars Visions and Marvel's What If series I think Disney is trying to test the waters on Teen/Young Adult focused Animation. If the exec have any business sense they will make a new division of this type of content and bring shows like TOH over to it, or at least offer production slots for people like Matt and Dana for new shows.
To give you a little bit of consolation: Dana Terrace said that competitions get more of the Owl House or other shows like Infinity Train are not unnoticed. So they might change their minds, even if it can take years. And let's not forget: popular shows will always return sooner or later. With a bit of luck, some continuation will follow one day (besides some spin-offs), maybe even something like Cobra Kai!
I dont think this comment-section has quite understood OR quite ‚remembers’ How bad Episodic-ness is. Remember those old Cartoons made with little to no care, with the solid assumption that Fans are STUPID AF? Remember the ‚Cartoon Son’ (for a lack of a better term) that Pilot-Episodes were sustituted with a lil’ Intro-Song explainnig how it all came to be?! Holy fluff, i dont wanna return to those dark Days! Cartoons who has no First and no Last Episode and could be viewed in every order?? Meaninglessness Incarnated, as some call it. Remember the obvious: ‚Consistency is objectively Positive’; thats all i mean to say.
Honestly I'm really hoping that some other company tries to pick the show up, I know she said it's probably too late for that and that they already have the timeframe for season 3 planned out. But a guy can dream
No chance now, especially since Dana left. Not only that, but the finale was clearly written to be the final one, and I’d rather leave it where it was, leaving the characters in a good place

I’ve read on some posts, I think one from Dana herself that the show, arguably being the most expensive one on the channel had its budget slashed when COVID-19 hit. She even said it took the “biggest bullet”. I believe she even said she “wasn’t given an option of season 4 when parks reopen”.
Serialized shows like the owlhouse and those before it are what ignited my love for animation, it's early heart crushing to see how animation companies treat and view the cartoons i love the most ...
It actually was in part due to COVID-19 in early 2020. Last October, Dana said the show took the “biggest bullet” on the channel when it came to “budgets getting constrained and episodes cut”. She also wasn’t given an option of season 4 when the parks were closed
Honestly, I'm just glad The Owl House happened. I haven't been so invested in something since Adventure Time, or The Last Airbender when I was a kid. I love the style of it and the world of The Boiling Isles, and even if it gets cut short, I'll enjoy every episode until the end. I don't know about others, but I'm not gonna be sad that it's going to be gone sooner than it should. Enjoy the ride. The end is nothing but a brief moment in the story of this show, and I'll sure as hell be glad that I had it in my life.
all the best western cartoons always get cancelled, because they are serialised and often not really suited for very young audiences. It is really sad, but executives just don't seem to learn or want to learn. That is the exact reason why watchers get pushed/pulled over to anime instead all the time
When i was younger, coming home and waiting to a specific time of a new episode in the story of characters i loved was the highlight of my childhood. Following an over-arching story was something i was doing at 7, and it was wonderful to have that "rutine" and i would ALWAYS tune in to see what happens next. So I dont see why they would only want to make episodic series if things like this very much sells, for adults and kids alike. Imagine coming home after picking up your kid and you and them sit down and watch a new episode of _ together! That'd be worderful!
Just how can Disney do this?!?! They literally have a pride collection on Disney plus, they are basically asking to lose hundreds of thousands of fans.
This video doesnt make clear just how much of a negative thing it is. This is a big Blow against Quality and Sense. Binge-watching and 'Instant-Seasons' are already big problems, but the Trend to go ‚Plot-less’ aka episodic, is tremendously bad. Episodic, meaningless cartoons are an Issue; This is not about Taste. Same for the ‚Cartoon-Sin’ to not have a Pilot but just an Intro that info-dumps how it all started, but never showing stuff (like Norman Normal, if you want a random Example). It is all the ‚No one cares about Cartoons for Real’-Mindset INCARNATED.
Since season 3 was cut, they could always just pitch the series to another network, i mean i know they technically can't because Disney owns the rights but i know that the Owl House fandom is still gonna try to make Disney keep the series going.
Thank you for fleshing out Dana's post. Though TOH viewers maybe older, the Mouse House is missing the point and opportunity. TOH is one of those shows that can be enjoyed and discussed by both young and old. It manages to cover not only a good plot / story line but also real world topics in an intelligent manner. TOH run maybe coming to an end, prematurely, but it is the type of show that will find more viewers in it's reruns. (I found Gravity Falls after it ended and it saved 2020 for me.) Thankfully there are other platforms that can be more open minded to content. Alex Hirsh has a new show, Inside Job, on Netflix starting soon and it looks hilarious!

It's unfair to the older generations that story oriented cartoons the short end of the stick almost every time. Because for me personally, Cartoons like Steven and Star and most recently Owl House give me an escape from day to day life unlike other live action shows they let me laugh and forget about hard parts of life because let's face it live action shows and even anime have very dark moments and it's not that I dont like them it's that it get boring and straight up depressing. It's nice to have shows that take the wonder and fun of kids shows and mixes it with story and thought process of adults cause that give you a show that you can watch not matter whose in the room and not risk scaring your little cousins with blood and gore, or thought of as a pervert because of that one scene in that anime, or even be called a child by people the same age as you.
You’re telling me that I just watched every episode thinking I would be able to watch season three late and they won’t be showing the whole thing?! This was what got me through my awful school year! All I ask is for the whole season 3!!
I think the problem will be that with season 3 kneecapped that the show runners will try to tie up what ends they can and make it as satisfying as possible because they likely wont be brought back. Disney is pretty hardnosed about their IPs and what they bring back and don't. I can't recall many times where they caved to fans and continued a show. Even if they did decide to bring TOH back, depending on how the rest of the show goes so far there may not be too much to add onto.
@@ZombieMinion1992 Dana actually confirmed they have other ideas for stories in toh universe that could continue even after the show ends, so at least to her, there are plenty of other aspects that could be done in spinoffs and comics. She's even liked the idea of a spinoff for hunter, so it doesn't seem lack of ideas really would be a problem. She just needs disney to agree to them.
@@ZombieMinion1992 Agreed And Dana herself said last July that when the show ends, that will be it. And yes, as long as its finale delivers, that’s fine with me
The bitch of it is, they can’t even take the show elsewhere to finish. Even if you created, wrote it and animated it all on your own. The second you sign to a studio, every last drop of it belongs to them. So even if Disney wants nothing to do with it, even if they never air it again. It’s their property and theirs alone. Animators really do get a raw deal.
Ah… that is friking crab head. I never know this and always though “why not just create by themselves or another studio” now i know the reason and the only thing I want to say is “I loss part of myself.”
Disney greedy for money, nuff said. Real shame that this show finally got the axed cause I was looking forward to those final episodes. Also wasn't Dana was gonna be another Self-Insert near the end of the series fianle?
I cried when I knew Disney is cancelling this show, this is my comfort show and to think it's getting cancelled and will be end real soon, it could've had 6 seasons with 20-21 episodes each if Disney didn't cancel it, I hope Dana could continue it without Disney because this is the most amazing show I ever watched and it's devastating to know Disney cancelled it. I'll never forgive disney
I understand that these kinds of things happen in studio business but its still irritating that a great story has to be cut short just because you can't watch it as a random episode when your bored and there's nothing else on. TOH is a really great show and I hope that if/when they get different people that make those kinds of calls that the show will somehow continue.
@@chloejoyhenry3137 Amen to that! If you ask me, Disney deserved their 100 channels to be shut down! They may have a streaming platform, but this news will totally make any potential buyer think twice.
man, i’m going to be very sad when the show actually ends it’s been a good journey ..any recommendations for shows like thi? edit: thanks everyone i’ll check out kipo, dragon prince, and amphibia
I think if the The Owl House does get either a revival/sequel series or spin-off series, I think it’s better off being on Disney+ rather than on Disney Channel since most serialized shows tend to be more successful on steaming services than on cable tv these days.
It's such a shame that they're so afraid or just plain unwilling to try out a new IP. From a business perspective, I understand why they want to rely on established brands, even though Disney really doesn't need more money, but at the same time, they should be willing to try out new series so that more people can tell different stories and kids can have something brand new to watch. Not wanting to have serialized shows is also just strange because how many people are watching shows just on live TV nowadays? Even if they don't have Disney+, it would be easy to catch up on any series if they missed out on episodes since On Demand and the Internet exist. I'm still hopeful that something else can be done with The Owl House down the road. It has a pretty strong following and if the show continues to do well on Disney+, maybe that will make the higher ups more willing to take a chance on the series.
publicly traded corporations always need more money. they are legally required to make more money for their shareholders. it's called fiduciary responsibility and it's why capitalism only coincidentally creates anything of artistic value.
these jackasses will nuke shows that are sowing the seeds for multi-generational IPs because they wanna make more money off of ad clicks on their streaming platforms for Q3
When I first heard that the owl house was being canceled I did not think it was because of the LBGT community content…. Not even a second because it would fit so well into one of the aspects of Disney’s direction. What I did think it was probably caused by just simple budget cuts. But I’m not gonna lie, I was kind of thrown off when they said that it no longer fit the Disney criteria?!?……what?!?!?….lol It’s conclusive!…… it motivates people to watch your ****ing Channel!….. which I feel is the most important thing because it make sure that people are paying for your Channel. I’m not gonna lie I was quite upset about the third season being canceled but then when you mentioned that they were planning to make it into a three part mini movie….. i’m kind of fine with that. My greatest frustration is when a show I like…abruptly ends with no conclusion….. Hell I would even go as far to say that I would prefer a bad conclusion…. to no conclusion! Honestly there was a point when I was watching adventure time and was sweating bullets because they were creating so much lore and characters and story points that I was worried that the series would come to an end before any of the questions got answered. It’s like someone walking into a room with a wheel barrel full of sand and dumps in a middle of the room. At first you were like OK… because the individual says that eventually they will pick up the pile of sand they just dumped. But as time progressed the individual keeps dumping sand in the room which starts to fill it up and you ask him when are they going to get around to cleaning up the sand and they say they will sometime soon…. But they never give you a direct answer to your question…. Always keeping it vague. And eventually one day the pile of sand is so big and so much that there’s almost no room left in the room to even get the wheelbarrow in anymore. So you turn around and ask the individual can you please start cleaning up all the sand?!?……. But they say that they don’t have to anymore because it’s no longer their job. So here you are stuck in a room full of sand and no one to clean it up for you. Now imagine the sand is both story and World building…… so you can see the frustration. That’s why even though people did not like the conclusion to the original run of adventure time I was just glad that we got ending at all. And as far as I’m concern that’s it for the series, I’m not going to HBO max to see the extension of the show. And even if the series is expensive to animate I don’t see how that justifies the fact that people are just not going to pay for your channel or even Disney+ if you’re just going to keep getting rid of shows that put peoples asses in the seats…so to speak.
the disney brand dosnt want diverse ground breaking shows to be a standard then every show would have to measure up thats a lot harder to make then 100 episodes of super hero and princess

Silver lining at least the show will get a proper conclusion, and from stuff Dana has stated in the pass and the show's writing quality, it seems that the show was written with contingencies in mind if something like this were to happen. Basically the show is paced in a way that episodes rarely get stagnant so that way the story develops enough for a proper conclusion, hopefully only missing out on side character and maybe bonus Boiling Isles locals, which still sucks MASSIVELY but I appreciate Dana for being such a smart writer, unlike others who tend to go a bit crazy and not really think through things nor realize they are dealing with business executives.
This is why I can't commit to any Disney show anymore. They pull the plug way to early for me to want to watch anymore. You get into a show and it dies prematurely
@@nitroblaze6696 If you're against Disney, and they aren't losing money, why would they care about you? Can't cry for reputation from a company you don't like. Companies want & need money.
From the sounds of things, it seems like cable streaming has to die in order for serialized shows like TOH and Amphibia to thrive OR to allow those kind of shows to stream exclusively on streaming platforms like Disney+
I just don't get why they don't move their serialized things to Disney+. I mean, I do agree that Owl House lends itself more to streaming than catching on TV, but who actually even watches cable anymore? The only people I know who still try to catch shows when they air instead of watching them on a streaming service are in the 65+ age bracket, which isn't even close to the age bracket they're trying for or the age bracket Owl House is likely to attract.
@@PixieoftheWood the thing is, Disney used this exact logic and started cutting TV channels and replacing them with disney+. This caused massive outrage so there are still many devoted people who watch cable
I remember when svtfoe ended i was devastated but soon after i discovered amphibia and the owl house trailer came out, but now there is no news of new shows
It’s honestly sad to me that the Owl House doesn’t fit the “Disney Channel Feel”. They have so many crappy live action things going on, and literally only 4 animated TV shows, Big City Greens, Amphibia, and The Owl House, also Molly McGee is coming out. I don’t understand why Disney just keeps the show Bunk’d alive for so long, when it just gets worse and worse. That’s just my take on it though, someone else can have a different opinion.
My sentiments exactly. "Children's" Television execs just HATE their jobs, HATE the fact that the audience isn't the set in 7-12 year old target demo, and HATE that the shows aren't instantly profitable, yet REFUSE to make any merchandising. I've been saying for YEARS that the age demographic is the ONLY ones that don't watch these things, and they're not going to cater to teens and 20 and over types that these shows are really written for. And the manner of thinking that kids STILL love these awful, awful sitcoms like it's still 2005 confounds me. They're mostly poorly written, stock plot pablum that insult their audiences every change they get. And this is FAR from just a Disney problem. It's ALL of them. And not even the streaming sites are safe. We keep thinking we're in this great Renaissance period of animation. We aren't. Networks want kid's animation that isn't a preschool toy commercial to DIE. They want to make money off of toys they can't make. Why aren't there Amphibia action figures or something? You can't have it both ways. You can't say a show is unprofitable and NOT try to profit from it.
"It skews older" Yeah! Exactly! Why do they think I got Disney Plus to check out this show and Star Wars Visions? If Disney doesn't consider the older family market then I'm going to just cancel my subscription as soon as I catch up with Mando and Wandavision. Because there's just not much else for me on their platform anymore. They keep trying to run this like a TV station instead of looking to Netflix's WILDLY successful model of just getting a good variety of content and seeing what sticks.
Please pardon my half- English but I just want to share my thoughts. I heard about this show a while back and finally caught up just now, before I started to watch the show I already heard that this show has been cancelled, but from what I read online and from this video, it seems like TOH creators just need some more time to fix the storyline due to the limited episodes they got, it sucks but I believe that it is still WAYYY better than Disney actually kill this show by stopping it completely or change the storyline so it would " fit the brand" (if u know what I mean), I remember in Batman Beyond Return of the Joker, they actually remake some violence scenes including replaced a lesbian couple into male/female couple which only lasted for 2 seconds. *SPOILER ALERT* for some of you might not know, in some countries, they actually cut the scene where Amity kissed Luz. What I am trying to say is yes, we might now get the fullest idea about the show but they will manage to deliver what is best, and I am so grateful that I found this show and there is still hope for it to make it to the end. LGBT and bisexual running on kid's show just being accepted a few years back and The Owl House actually took a MAJOR step guys, that is why some people are still cautious about it. Anyway, I am glad that so far I have not found any solid evidence that TOH will stop completely. Hopefully, we will get the best storyline we could get in 2022. Until then, BY-EEE!
I used to think that this happened: "We greenlit the show because we support the lgbtq+ and it's progressive values, but got a little too gay, so we need to cancel it before it gets too much pushback...Okay BYEEEE"
I’m so tired of very very good shows like this, Steven universe and probably many others, that have better plots than most un-animated tv shows getting cut because of some bs reason
Wonder how much of this is due to leadership change at the Disney. Both Owl House and Anphibia where green lighted under Iger but mainly aired during Chapek. I know often times management shifts during transitions lead to shows being canceled prematurely ( ie Dredsen Files on SyFy)
@@kaylemathewcomendador6964 what i mean is like action type disney shows like amphibia and owl house but big city greens isnt bad but i really dont like the new ghost of molly mcgee or whatever its called
I would love to see a series that physically connects the worlds of amphibia, gravity falls, and the owl house, and any other series that are connected but we all see the little “Easter eggs” that shows it at least somewhat exists in their worlds
Don't get me wrong, I'm having a blast with Amphibia S3, but if serialization is the issue, why did specifically TOH get that much of a cut ? "Not in line with the brand" still sounds a lot like an euphemism for "so it's serialised AND gay ? Only 3 seasons, and shorten the last one. We already have another teen isekai with three complete seasons anyway." The Disney brand isn't as progressive or queer friendly as some people think : James Somerton has a very good video on it : TOH is their first proper content with actual rep, and it is precisely this one which is cut down. If it's not on purpose, it's still really weird and reaaaaally bad optics from a progressive standpoint. But again : Disney is very, very moderately progressive. I think the people Dana Terrace worked with in LA were really on board, but some execs were not. So as they always do at Disney when they actually have to take a decision, they took the middle ground : didn't cancel the show outright to avoid outrage, but shortened it. Hell : Disney won't even commit to a prominent gay relationship in their mature content, so the battle for season 3 must have been quite difficult already, not only for serialization reasons.
Maybe they should try another platform that doesn't involve brands that have been around for years. It's a shame to see good shows like this one get canceled just because they're afraid to challenge kids minds and would rather keep content dumbed down.
According to Google The show “did not fit their brand Well if that's the case I think that's stupid concerning how popular the show is And if there worried it doesn't fit there brand the same could be said for amphibia, and the Marvel superhero movies. And I sadly even mean the Percy Jackson book series that they just spot rights too. How does that fit their brand And I bet once it's out they're not going to let people enjoy it on regular TV stations. I bet it will only be allowed on Disney Plus
Has anyone else noticed that the Disney plus algorithm does not follow the standard recommendation or keep watching systems as other shows on Disney plus? It was really weird I had 3 different people watch it on different devices using their own separate accounts & none of them could find the standard algorithm responses that other shows provide.
I personally feel like Disney isn’t what it use to be anymore as I was when I was a kid and felt actually enjoyment off the shows they had but now as time passes on it’s like they slowly lose my interest each passing year and the only thing that has me on it still is basically their old shows nothing new that they currently have now other than the owl house and miraculous it’s like their in a way digging their own grave and failing to be entertaining to other age groups besides small children and preteens
Overall a huge disappointment, my favorite TV shows out of Disney over the past year are the plot driven ones, Amphibia, THO, Secrets of Sulfur Springs. Plot driven tv shows give you a lot more drive to care about the characters when they feel like they grow with each episode, and I appreciate it a lot when episodic tv shows throw something in like that (big city greens having cricket working at the coffee shop continually after the episode where he ruins the shop and has to pay for the damages) it gives the characters a chance to grow, but also has consequences, wether good or bad. Shows like SpongeBob never change because everything that has been already determined has been determined for years on end, and if they ever want to just change something, it gets changed with no explanation, and you’re just barred to accept it, and to a point that is perfectly fine, I loved SpongeBob growing up, but I don’t want every show I watch to be a SpongeBob. Makes me worried that in 2023 we might not have any good cartoons releasing with plot, every show that Disney seems ready to make is purely episodic, and also based on an already existing IP, makes me wish they would take a chance like adult swim does, overall the shows on there is not always a banger, but some of them definitely are, and the new learning with pibby might just be a savior for some cartoon content, sadly I can’t see something similar coming from Disney again in a long time. I hope I’m wrong, but I truly doubt it.
I hate it that networks are trying to play it safe. And don’t even get me started on Cartoon Network constantly rebooting old shows and rerunning these reboots. I miss it when a network had quality and variety. I enjoy longer running cartoons like owl house.

Their ratings will go down if they do not have show with an overarching plot. I remember being a little kid and wishing that the shows I was watching had more plot to them. There’s a reason Teen Titans remains so popular to this day. Because it wasn’t just another silly show with no real substance. Animated kids shows haven't captivated me since Avatar: The Last Airbender, a show I loved when I was growing up and still love as an adult today.
Seriously do these executives even communicate with any costumers?
Why do i find this account wherever i go? Obi-wan it's getting creepy how many of your comments i see, you need to chill
Shit, the argument dies when you remember that the first original cartoon to show up on Disney Channel was Kim Possible. And while you can argue that most episodes are self contained, there is an overarching story.
@@jturner2577 No, no they do not,

Rick and morty, owl house, amphibia and alot more

And you know what? As long as it has a satisfying ending, that’s what matters most
Best to end while still strong anyway before it overstays its welcome and gets stale (as what happened to Spongebob and Simpsons)
Nothing wrong with that
I know many adults that watch animated films and shows that are still suitable for young kids
Disney suits really don't deserve their creative staff at all. They really seem to take them for granted.
IIRC it was Dana that said there was one particular suit that gave them trouble with the lumity aspects during pre-production. Wonder if it's the same guy.
Maybe but it was probably the head of Disney Channel Gary Marsh.
It never really slowed to a snail crawl
Unlike this show, which despite me wanting to like it a lot more but too often it just felt like nothing was really happening
Here's my take on it
While it's easy to look at the big wigs & the guy and think how stupid they are for passing up the opportunity
There several factors in play here
1 - while these are "children's" shows a lot of them don't FEEL child friendly
It's hard to explain as I'm
Not a professional but compare owl house to how to train your dragon books
Or infinity train to the book zathura
You notice things such as a child's perspective among other things greatly changing the outcome, even for darker movements because of the way it's handled
Next up. What views? Take lumity out of the Search bar and I can practically Guarantee Craig of the Creek,She Ra and even Amfibia have a lot more views on Social media
Next a lot of these companies are selling to kids 8-13 specifically.
They'll want shirts, toys shoes and more based on their favorite shows and the parents and older siblings are more likely to buy it for
Even the most hardcore fanatic adult watchers generally only get a few Figurines and a t-shrit and stop there because money is tight OR they make their own stuff such as outfits and prop items from the show
Nither shows a true interest at being a returning customer. Again unless it's something already big like Harry Potter a lot of teenagers get Mangas,Comics,Games & Anime
None of above are a strong point these companies
Especially seeing the decline of comics as a whole
BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE
look at the way Nick's Avatar, Gravity falls or even Gargoyles handed their storylines

This makes me very sad. My kids loved this show and it was one of the few I could watch with them as an adult.
Netflix is still and probably will be into the foreseeable future the last bastion of good serialized animation.
Centaurworld is such a good show. Musical? Check. Story driven? Check. The dark and goofy tones of the show really blend well together.
They have room to make interesting decisions. They pop out good animation like The Hollow and Castlevania but they also have some shows that push limits hard like Big Mouth and Q-Force. They border on being insulting to the audience and it has bitten them in the butt a bit.
Ninjago is still on CN (even though the network is clearly trying to kill it) and it's a fantastic serialized show!
I've noticed a pattern whenever there is a LGBTQ show on Disney they cancel it it's happened to Andy Mack and now it's happening to the owl house

I think if the The Owl House does get either a revival/sequel series or spin-off series, I think it’s better off being on Disney+ rather than on Disney Channel since most serialized shows tend to be more successful on steaming services than on cable tv these days.
I will always prefer story-driven animation. F*ck the “higher-ups”
"Didn't fit the brand". I'm losing respect for Disney more and more these days.
When I first heard that the owl house was being canceled I did not think it was because of the LBGT community content…. Not even a second because it would fit so well into one of the aspects of Disney’s direction. What I did think it was probably caused by just simple budget cuts. But I’m not gonna lie, I was kind of thrown off when they said that it no longer fit the Disney criteria?!?……what?!?!?….lol
It’s conclusive!…… it motivates people to watch your ****ing Channel!….. which I feel is the most important thing because it make sure that people are paying for your Channel.

"It skews older"
Yeah!

I used to think that this happened:
"We greenlit the show because we support the lgbtq+ and it's progressive values, but got a little too gay, so we need to cancel it before it gets too much pushback...Okay BYEEEE"

We already have another teen isekai with three complete seasons anyway."
The Disney brand isn't as progressive or queer friendly as some people think : James Somerton has a very good video on it : TOH is their first proper content with actual rep, and it is precisely this one which is cut down.

The show “did not fit their brand
Well if that's the case I think that's stupid concerning how popular the show is
And if there worried it doesn't fit there brand the same could be said for amphibia, and the Marvel superhero movies. And I sadly even mean the Percy Jackson book series that they just spot rights too. How does that fit their brand
And I bet once it's out they're not going to let people enjoy it on regular TV stations. I bet it will only be allowed on Disney Plus
Owl house is literally the second coming of Gravity Falls.
No idea why they didn't consider the reputation value
The season three: *makes as gay as possible to make Disney mad* Also the second lumity kiss was- AWESOME I loved it! Now we need eda and raine
Writers: Hey people like it :)
Disney: Shut it down, shut it all down 🧐
“Competition breeds innovation” what!? Wish more people understand this.
I hate it that networks are trying to play it safe. And don’t even get me started on Cartoon Network constantly rebooting old shows and rerunning these reboots. I miss it when a network had quality and variety. I enjoy longer running cartoons like owl house.
With season 2 they just left us of a cliff hanger oh the last episode and that is very annoying
