From Christchurch, we arrived at Tekapo around midday after our quick stop at Rakaia Gorge. We drove up to Mt John Observatory and from there you’ll see a 360-degree stunning view of the lakes and mountains of Tekapo. After our lunch, we went for a little walk to the higher peak for more great views over Lake Tekapo.
Can you even leave Tekapo without taking a photo at the Church of the Good Shepherd? It sits close to the lake and its surrounding mountains so it's definitely a picture-perfect spot.
We settled in our accommodation before we eat our dinner at a nearby restaurant. We wanted to do DIY stargazing but the moon was so bright that night. Nonetheless, it was a beautiful view to look up to. On the next day, the hearty breakfast that we had at Tekapo fueled us for a bit intense day ahead of us.
Unsurprisingly, Tekapo is one of Gabriel’s favorites of our South Island Adventure.
