Interesting discussion. I have one question. From the video I gathered that music isn't necessarily haram, intrinsically. However there is a hadith which states that musical instruments aren't lawful. Narrated Abu 'Amir or Abu Malik Al-Ash'ari: "From among my followers there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks and the use of musical instruments, as lawful" - Sahih al-Bukhari 5590 What's the Ahmadi take of this hadith?
From this Hadith, we understand that a specific group of people are mentioned (they have been likened to monkeys and pigs at the end of the narration). As discussed in the above podcast, when the Holy Prophet (sa) entered Madinah, a local musical instrument was used to welcome him and sing his praise. Therefore, an instrument inherently can not be good or evil. Rather, it's how, when & where you use it, that makes it unlawful. This too, has been explained in the above podcast.
