Not sure if the dimness is from the LED backlight or you are meaning an issue with the LCD screen / picture. Did you happen to watch my videos on fixing a tv with tape? You can try to do the isolation technique that I showed to give you clues on if the issue is on the LCD or not.

2013 M60-c3 Vizeo - takes long time (5-10mins) for video to come on. Power light does come on but immediately goes off - I will continue to power on and off with remote -(eventually power light goes from bright to dim - stays on - and video starts working). Only input is from HTPC Onkyo 1030 receiver at HDMI 5 - 4k 60 hertz.
Not sure, might be a similar CPU loosing connection with the board issue. You can try a hair dryer on the main board and see if you can get it to turn on faster than 5 min.
@@FrugalRepair You were using the red lead to poke around and test for voltage but you didn't show. where the black lead was making contact on the board.
Ok, gotcha. The black probe was on the metal frame of the tv. I usually stick it in a hole so it's touching the metal housing. Or I'll touch it to a screw in the corner of the PCB board since that is a known ground/reference point.
I call it a design flaw. But nobody wants fan noise on a TV so this type of issue will continue to occur. I don't see any way of having that type of processing capacity to support 4k and not having a heat issue with only passive cooling
I call it planned obsolesce, if you want passive cooling then all you need is more surface area, thus a larger heat sink, but they want to make it as thin and light as possible, they're probably saving a buck where a little metal would make it last 5+ years longer, plus it's not as if silent or near silent fans don't exist, we use them all the time on laptops, a laptop fan just running at idle would make more than enough of a breeze to make it last longer.
I have a computer sitting next to me that has 4 fans running inside of it and I can't hear it. Maybe if I put my ear real close, but right now my ear is about 30 inches away and the room is dead silent. It's definitely possible to actively cool a TV so you can't hear it, but most people won't maintain it anyway.
Another thing the designers could have added was more vent holes in the plastic housing. Something that happens is that since these tv's just sit there the vent holes at the top get covered in dust and restrict airflow even more.
A lot of failed visios like these have this problem. One way to help these sets last longer is to turn off the quick start mode so it takes longer to start but the board doest stay hot its whole life, and save electricity innthe process. Flux and reflow followed by a nice slow cooling cycle should do the trick.
Hi I got a question !! My tv used to work properly but it just stopped working one week ago Don't know what's wrong with it When you plug it it does not turn on
I picked up a p75-c1 vizio a little over 2 years ago the guy said it wouldn't power on got it home done a few things and got it to power on it lasted me all this time had to buy a new TV last month as I believe something happend with the panel and all the colors looked extremely bad lol but not going to complain vizios make some good tvs
What is the cause of static noise from tv? I got a 65in Panasonic plasma. It makes a buzzing electric noise. I tried disconnecting the hdmi cable to see if its outside interference but the hiss is still there.
That could be anything, really. If the noise is coming from the speakers, it’s likely a problem on the main board. But if not, sometimes you can get close enough with your ear to hear which board has the buzzing part on it.
I’d recommend posting on social media and asking around if someone has a broken TV laying around. There’s always the free groups but many of them are broken screen units. You can also ask a local electronics place (not a big box store) if you can have any customers are turning in.

Im sorry I meant to send that to the repair guy. I'm really old school and get confused easily.
Ok, I'm Impressed 👍💯 Just the kinda thing I like doing also
Just glue 8cm 12V PC 2-wire Fan in a strategic point for air circulation, and solder to the USB (+) and (-) (pin 1 and 4 ) . Test. It will be quiet and work only when the TV is ON.
I’d call it a bandaid. That said it’s better than a broken tv. Improving the cooling is the only way I see it being an indefinite fix
This is great! I need help. The LCD screen on my tv has a crack. The tv screen is I just fine but when I turn the tv on the picture has a crack on it 😢 what do I do?
Thanks for watching! Unfortunately, you can’t fix a cracked screen. You can sell the internal boards on ebay, that’s about the best option. I’m sorry.
I have a 70 inch Sharp Aquas TV from 2012 with an led beck light that is burned out. I don’t want to pitch my TV but I’m not sure if it’s worth keeping.
I appriciate your teaching your teaching. I'm having an issue with my RCA rwosu5549 model, dark screen, however if you focus flash light on screen there is a picture . please helo.
Your LED backlight is out. Check out my latest video for a trick you can try.
I have an 4k philips with one side more bright than the other not dark only little more dimmed. Do you have a tips cheers?😀 what to check
My 55'' Toshiba TV quit working one day. I took the back off and replaced the fuse on the circuit board. Still working over three years later 😃
thanks for sharing. Quick Question: how do you know how much volts you should have from each cable?
Thanks for watching! Most of the time the main voltages are printed on the main board connectors. The signaling lines are usually around 3v.
love it! great video!
I wondered if you could add / mount a cooling fan. Thanks for a great video! And I subbed!
Thanks for watching and the sub!
@@FrugalRepair very welcome! 🤓 Is it really worth it to replace the LED / LCD screen on TVs ranging from 43" to 50"? Have a Vizio 50" (smart, 4K) & an LG 43" 4K. The Vizio works but the screen is messed up/damaged. Think the LG has a backlight problem. Thank you 🤓
If you have an extra lcd assembly it’s probably worth it since it is not that hard but I doubt you can buy one anywhere. If there is a crack in the lcd then you can’t fix it. Many other issues though have a fix or a hack you can do to get it working. Did you watch my fix with tape videos? That may help give you clues on things you can try
@@FrugalRepair yes I watched your "tape fix" video! 🤓 I don't have an extra LCD assembly. For a kind of hobby, I look in certain dumpsters, curbside stuff, asking people moving out of houses, apartments, etc, looking for laptops, PCs, Chromebooks, tablets, etc. My regular job is a warehouse (we sell gym equipment) worker. The business next to ours (a recording studio) had a defective LG 43" 4K TV, and gave it to me. The other TV, the Vizio 50", was a dumpster find. I actually don't normally take TVs, due to size.
@@FrugalRepair some time ago a neighbor gave me a Sony PS3 (working) & a Dell Latitude laptop (also works!) I want a TV (flat screen) for the PS3.
Was that processor a ball grid array contact type?
yes, BGA chip
I like this because this is one of my hobbies, cool...very inspiring👈
I'd call it a fix. BTW like your style in this video. It assumes we have enough basic knowledge to want to attempt this repair to begin with &yup last Summer someone was chucking a big TV like this out .if I get to fix it S C O R E !!! Thanks for this encouraging and straight forward video repair in under 8 minutes ! Peace
Thanks! I hope you can get it working!
Very helpful. Thanks
Awesome man! Great vid. Reminds me of the old BFG computer video cards that shipped with bad soldering jobs.
_The fix - was bake them in the oven at 350._ 😁
So you put the doo hickory, and place it in the shiny thing, with the Mama's board and heat up the flux capacitor to fix this problem. Got it.
you forgot about adding 1.21 giga-watts
I'll bet you can give it more warp speed too. Jokes aside, your amazing.
Thanks for watching! I appreciate it
I have a vizio E390i-B1E . I was told it had no picture. The first time I tried it I got a picture but it was dim. Next time I tried it no picture. I pulled the main board out and took the heat gun to it. I just put it back in and have the dim picture again. What would cause the dim picture? I have played with the brightness. It would work ok in a dark room.
Not sure if the dimness is from the LED backlight or you are meaning an issue with the LCD screen / picture. Did you happen to watch my videos on fixing a tv with tape? You can try to do the isolation technique that I showed to give you clues on if the issue is on the LCD or not.
Good day thank you for your support
I have this mi 50inch android tv. But suddenly I discovered a dark blurry colour almost cover the screen but I don't know that really went wrong and what can I do to fix it. Thanks
I picked up a 60 inch tv and no start condition. Found selector switch on rear with shorts. Ran current through it and conditioned the contacts and it worked again. If they would have spent about ten cents and used pull up resistors the contacts would stay clean.
Congratulations on the repair!
Hey I found your videos while trying to troubleshoot my ASUS PG65UQ.. do you know if there is a fix for this? I cant add reddit link here, but in short the display started to display faint grey horizontal lines all over the screen.. very harsh when 144Hz enabled but now I get them when turning the monitor on at 120Hz.. but after 30minutes it kinda dissipates.. very strange.
Not sure, sounds like a faulty capacitor or another smd component
@@FrugalRepair Yeah.. thought they use long term capacitors.. I member fixing my old 52" TV that didnt turn on anymore by soldering on new capacitors.. but this problem is visual. I left a thread on Reddit with a screenshot in "Monitors" Reddit
Where did you order the screen from? Would it work the same for a Vizio tv?
You mean the power supply? I got it on ebay
Thanks wondering now if that's my problem or the driver if I hold a light up to the screen and I see the picture
You need new back lights, cheap and easy fix.
Hope I'm doing this right but I've never tried to send a message to u. Given to me a vizio e60e3 smart tv. Guy said its got a blue light issue. Everything is blue on screen but excellent quality a d found it may be as easy as a tint correction inside that area where u adjust.
Do you have a y ideas, thoughts? Thank u any help e awesome as wife's medical bills for breast cancer are beating us up.
Gary
Sorry to hear about your wife’s struggles! The first thing I think of for blue tint is the LED coating (to make the light more white in color) has failed and the backlight gives off a blue light. If so, you can either try changing the settings or replace the LED backlight.
Hi, I hope you see this, I have a TCL 32 inch Roku smart tv, I think my sensor went bad, I am unable to fix it myself, what advice do you have? Al

I have a 32” tv . When I turn it on it says no signal and turns off. I think I did something with the remote to cause this problem. What do you think?
Hello brother, I have a Sony KD75XG8096 tv and it’s working properly but in the middle of the display has one thick vertical black line. How do I fix it? Do you have any videos regarding this? Thanks

How can i reach out to you about help on tv repair. Tv turns on, but only shows vizio symbol. Tv doesnt turn off. Have to unplug. Replaced main board. Have same issue. Cant find t-con board.
What would you suggest if you had a new 58 inch Hisense tv never used in storage and you finally got it out of storage after a year and it won’t turn on No led lights or anything working ?
I’d go through the usual diagnostic steps. I have some steps in my free ebook that you can try.
I need your help!
Where did you connect the COM lead?
I don’t know what that means.
Worth mentioning that you MUST BE VERY CAREFUL AROUND POWER SUPPLIES!! They can easily hurt you.
Do you know where to source replacement screens? Have a 4k TV with a broken screen and I think if I replace the screen it'll work again
They aren't for sale anywhere typically. The only way I've been able to replace a screen is to get one from another tv that uses the same panel.
@@FrugalRepair Dang, that's a shame. Thanks for the answer!
How much a volt tester
They could have installed a better heatsink, one with ribbons.
How how much would you sell that TV for
with the reflow method you did, its a bandaid and that will just be a temporary fix, for how long we dont know, but it will fail eventually
Would you say that if one could add some active cooling? The passive cooling design is clearly not enough.
A lot of failed visios like these have this problem. One way to help these sets last longer is to turn off the quick start mode so it takes longer to start but the board doest stay hot its whole life, and save electricity innthe process. Flux and reflow followed by a nice slow cooling cycle should do the trick.
I don't think this model has quick start but I can check. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@FrugalRepair i reflowed a couple P series Vizios, I think it might be eco mode or QuickStart mode
hey hey hey u said with a screw not a heat gun and some fancy micro wee wee tool that measures voltage.

I got a question !!
My tv used to work properly but it just stopped working one week ago
Don't know what's wrong with it
When you plug it it does not turn on
May God bless you bro

Are the TV parts expensive to buy
Generally no, but some high demand main boards can be relatively expensive.
Now if someone could give me a 75 inch broken TV! 🤣
Glad to hear you fixed it and was able to use it. Thanks for sharing.
Where are you situated
Thank you
So if cracked, or scratched won't work? What happens when cracked?
Main board for 100$? How much is the tv
Amazing 👍👍👍👍👍
what if there's cracks internally?
Yay another Visio TV
But where do you get 75" broken TV's for free though? I would like one too to try my hands on! :D
I’d recommend posting on social media and asking around if someone has a broken TV laying around. There’s always the free groups but many of them are broken screen units. You can also ask a local electronics place (not a big box store) if you can have any customers are turning in.
my 85' tv sony crack the screen from inside, how can i fix it?? tv works
2:20 now, with your only tool, the screw driver, you verify the voltages. 😂
Yep, I'm showing you how I do it. If you watch the whole video I explain how you could fix it with just a screwdriver.
@@FrugalRepair I was only joking a little because just a moment after saying that you pull out the multimeter (as in *technically* using two tools) :D
Was a bit funny.
Of course I watched the whole video :)

bro what if my crystal samsung tv 65 inch has crack but it still works fine and only leds needs change?
can you help me with a few TV one is a 86" with a cracked screen, the other is a 65" it turn off and on off and on.
This is exactly what is happening to me!But the screen has a tiny crack, will light up but won’t turn on. It’s a $1k tv and I’d like to try to save it!
The crack may be the problem. Did you watch the tape trick videos? Maybe you can see if the uncracked half will display an image.

Hello, my LG smart TV has a normal picture, but if you open the apps, everything is negative, and the menu also turns from black to white, what could be the reason?
Yeah reflow work but no one can say for how long... I used to do this back in the RROD Xbox days... it would always work but always fail again soon after...
The Board replacement is the correct fix.... and maybe thermal glue a bigger ( wider) heatsink) on it to prevent it from happening again...
Since it's a common failure on these Vizio tv......
My TCL Roku TV 65 inch model 65S421 only 2 years old and it has a black screen, but I can if a shine a flashlight on it I can see an image and which says Recovery mode, I followed the prompts and had it updated, but it seems to just go back to Recovery mode. I know it has a backlight problem also. I have tried everything on UA-cam and nothing is working. Pleases help. I have fixed many things, computers, car parts, etc and refuse to give up.
Sorry, I don’t know exactly. There may be a service menu you can gain access to. Worst case you can replace the main board or maybe replace firmware chip. And then you can fix the backlight.

Try blocking some of the clock signals with tape on one of the ribbon cables going to your lcd screen buffer boards as you may have a short circuit in T con board somewhere. If that doesn't work probably lcd screen is the problem and can't be fixed.good luck
I got a 55 inch Vizio 3D TV I had a problem with the speaker he came and changed the speaker but when he changed it he picked it up the TV up and moved it without the back being on and now I have colors going everywhere. It was working great all he was to do was to change the speaker could it be he ruined the set maybe the screen got twisted from picking it up and moving it without the back on
Try reseating the cables to the lcd. Hopefully he didn’t mess it up
