    DELPHINE DESCENDS
After her family is killed and her homeworld occupied, young Kathreen Martin is sent to the distant world of Furoris for re-education. She will live the rest of her life as a serf - to be bought and sold as a commodity of the Imperial Network.
When her only chance of escape is ruined, a chance mistaken identity offers her a new life as the orphaned daughter of a First-Citizen Senator and heiress to a vast fortune.
She vows to claw her way into power to sit among the worlds’ elite. Then, with her own hands, she will reap bloody vengeance on them all.
But to beat them, she must play their game. And she must play it better than them all.
    BLACK MILK
Prometheus has the chance to bring his wife back from the dead, but doing so will mean the destruction of Earth.
Spanning time, planets and dimensions, Black Milk draws to a climactic point in a post-apocalyptic future, where humanity, stranded with no planet to call home, fights to survive against a post-human digital entity that pursues them through the depths of space.
Five lives separated by aeons are inextricably linked by Prometheus’s actions:
Ystil.3 is an AI unit sent back in time from the distant future to investigate Prometheus’s discovery...
The mysterious Lydia has devoted her life to finding a planet that the last remaining humans can call home…
Tom Jones (he’s a HUGE fan!) is an AI trapped inside a digital subspace, lost and desperate to find his way back to his beloved in real-time…
Dr Norma Stanwyck is a neuroscientist from 24th Century Earth whose personal choices ripple throughout time...
Prometheus must learn the necessity of death or the entire universe will be swallowed by his grief.

So glad you included "The Man From Earth". Love that movie.

From the “ordinary” actor chosen for main role, to the other actors chosen (several well known) to the dialog and twist near the end a wonderful movie. I’d say very human and thought provoking; I think of cerebral as intellectual eg Solaris and generally dislike those.

There's no doubt in my mind Darrel could convince me to watch a film about prepping my walls for paint 😍 Seriously, as someone who has Prime Video, this recommendations are gold. I distinctly remember starting to watch the Man from Earth years ago, but falling asleep early on. I'll watch that and Upstream Colour this weekend. Regarding free will, Darrel commands, I obey, so nope?

You may want to add 'Vanilla Sky'. There's a nice tribute for it in 'Predestination'

Great list! Upstream Color, Under the Skin and Her are favourites of mine. I've seen a couple of others you mention as well.
I'm definitely going to check out Advantageous and Primer.

You are missing recent movie " Artifice Girl " ( 2023 ) on this list.
Low budget, but best script & dialogue I've seen in years.
One guy was screenwriter, director & one of the actors. ( Lance Henrikssen is the only famous actor , but rest of the cast is fantastic)
It' kinda similar to Ex-Machina but smarter & better.
    Highly recommend.

(No SPOILERS) When I finished watching 'Predestination', after some contemplation I came to a conclusion that the film was PROBABLY about "a human being's journey of defining oneself as a person/character".
Idk; .... maybe I was wrong, though.
P.S. - But I definitely did LOVE the film.

"Primer" is perhaps the most intellectually challenging movie I've ever seen.

Her was made in 2014 and I always avoided watching it because well... I expected it to be silly. I finally watched it a year ago. It turned out to be very smart, and has aged extremely well. Really... 2014 prophecy. Great film.

Her is one of my favorite movies! I've always found movies starring Joaquín Phoenix to be quirky and interesting, so choosing to see that one was a no brainer.

Infinity Chamber stars Christopher Soren Kelly who was in the incredibly overlooked Ink.
Great list! Loved The Man From Earth.

I'd like to recommend The Vast Of Night. Not sure it counts as cerebral, more atmospheric and a bit eerie. Set in the 50s in a small US town at the height of UFO mania, its dialogue driven and there's not much in the way of special effects but the cinematography and sound are amazing.
I thought I'd add it as it's a hidden gem, and currently free on Amazon.

Interesting genre. A few new to me here. I really must watch "The Man Who Fell to Earth" again. I think I'd chuck in " Perfect Sense"(2011) . It's the story of a pandemic that gradually robs everyone of their senses, one at a time. It focus on the relationship of 2 lovers (played by Ewan Mc Gregor and Eva Green), set against a decaying world as each sense is lost by humanity.

I've seen both Coherence and Primer and found both of them to be thought provoking and enjoyable. I saw Primer a while ago and it stuck with me. I've watched it twice and it's about time for viewing #3

Predestination is the only film on your list that I have seen. The bit where he meets his past female self, I saw the next bit coming, that he/she was also his/her own father/mother

Thank You for this. I've seen about half of these but it's been a while. I was just thinking that too much Sci-Fi is just an excuse to kill something. I like stories that make me wonder how far the story can bend my mind.

Great list. Thanks for the tips. I have not seen all of these, I will look them up.
Gattaca is very good. Upgrade - 2018 - is intense and not what you expect. Looper is also great. The Arrival - Charlie Sheen - far better than I expected!

I would add one film to this list that I NEVER hear about. Fetching Cody, filmed on a budget of like 500 dollars, (I'm kidding but it was SUPER LOW BUDGET) It is a tale of two heroin junkies ( a love story of you will) that involves time travel for most of the film. Something bad happens and one of the main characters try's to right the wrong thing that happens. It is heartbreaking and at the same time very uplifting in the end. it is a MUST watch!

Well, I thought that the list would include a proper cerebral stuff, such as 'Space Sluts from the 8th Dimension' or 'Plutonian Brainbuster'. 😀

The Man From Earth is amazing. I saw that a sequel was made, but the synopses for it seemed lame.

From these, I watched Primer, Her, Under the Skin and The Man from Earth. Her and The man form earth are very good, specially Her. Under the skin is weird, it lacks an end. And Primer - well, I've got an issue here. I am Brazilian and speak good English - for example, when I watch your videos, I don't need subtitles, I understand you very well. I didn't understand most of what they say in Primer - I see there is something about time travel and getting money with it, but I lost most of the plot. Everybody says this movie is very interesting, but without a caption I just got lost. I am curious about the other recommendations, mainly this Upstream color and bowie's one. Thanks.

Under the skin, the book is excellent, but the movie is quite boring...

I watched the video, but sadly I can't resonate with it. It certainly feels like the age of the TV series has long gone. The vast majority of what was produced in the last 10-15 years is just ideological propaganda of one form or another.
