I'm in East/Central Texas and we have had these entertaining birds make a nest on our property several times. Yes, you get too close to nest Momma starts fussing at you and doing the broken wing display. We back off and don't get her.too upset or nervous. Love their "song" and their carrying on. Definitely entertaining!❤
FWIW: As often as I have heard these little birds, I still do not 'hear' the _"kill-deer"_ in their calls. In my own defense, I have heard _whippoorwills_ and recognized those immediately.
Very interestingly, about half of the Killdeers that I have seen were found in gravel parking lots. They seem to like the sparse grass and the small ponds created by rain, though I don't know if there is an ecological term for a 'parking lot habitat'.
I love killdeer. There are several places I go where I am sure to hear them and then see them. They often nest in my mother in-laws gravel driveway. When they do this we put up cones to block off the area for a while to keep cars and people clear.

They are great and always have something going on!
Same display here in Michigan they. Very fun birds to watch!
Thanks! I saw these in a parking lot while walking my dog and swore they were making the calls of seagulls!
These birds nested in the courtyard of my high school.
Today they nest at my job!
Thanks for the video.
I have loved killdeer for over 30 years now. I enjoy hearing their calls & watching them spurt across the fields.♡

The killdeer is my favorite plover. So cute, and wondrous little actresses.❤
