The storey with these Telecaster bass is, when CBS aquired Fender they found they had a bunch 1950's necks and body's which were pre-routed for the single coil pick-up. So to make use of the bodies and necks, they re-re-introdused the slab body bass, and so not to confuse it with the early precisions, they added extra screws to the pickguard and called it the Telecaster Bass.
I owned a 1968 , the pot said 6617, so was made 1966 week 17, but neck no stamp. serial runs 21xxxx. when Fender said May 1968 first re-issue of 1951. I wonder how they come about . Your answer probably is correct. So was this pre-CBS?
Man, I thought only the Gibson EBs had that kind of pronounced "thump" when fingered! Glad Fender renamed it the "Telecaster Bass" to distinguish it from the more "Strat-ified" version of the Precision Bass they were rollin' with from 1957-on. Wouldn't mind seeing this baby make another go-round as a special order item, GREAT bass to rock out on...
Ron Wood played one just like that with Roto's and a screaming Marshall Major on Jeff Beck's Beckola, got an excellent rock sound. I had one of these but it was a later one with the humbucking pickup, these sound a lot better. Incidentally Ron's original bass was for sale some years ago in a London music store, I found it online but of course it's long gone now.
I always thought that the real purpose of the pickup cover was to help quiet that annoying 60 cycle hum that single coils made incase of poor electrical grounding, lack thereof or radio/neon/appliance transmission and interference. You also have to remember that this was conceived in an era before 3 prong ground plugs and sockets in which what is now part of our current electrical code. Everyone be careful out there..
Brian Neal but man the cbs basses sounds great IMO. Ive noticed on all these old cbs bases, they sound really thumpy and dead. I love em. Played a 79 and it sounded great as well
Mark, Thanks so much for finally doing the Bass that I've been requesting, the Telecaster Bass. You failed though to mention so I ask, do you know in what years the Mudbucker was located in the neck position and when was it at the bridge? I have seen both. In the late 70's I saw both types and bought one in the neck position, used for $180 with OHSC. They were hanging on the wall at long gone Rolls Music in Falls Church Va. I later learned that the owner of that place Phil got rich flooding DC with hot guitars and amps from NYC.
Sorry about your Indians. The Cubs were just a little better. Yet, it's the most exciting World Series Game I have ever watched, and your team is just fantastic.
The thumb rest placed in that position was not for the thumb but for the other 4 fingers and you played with only your thumb, the opposite of it was placed above the strings. very old school.
mac163 yeah man people from that era were so incredibly untalented at playing their instruments. Just listen to guitarists today they fucking SHIT on everything, before van halen came out and changed the guitar game. I miss Beethoven who would actually utilize arpeggios and proper techniques
Props to Mark for his gracious words about the Series
This was Wilton Felder's primary bass, from the Jackson Five's "I Want You Back" to all those Barry White Records....!

@@chrissng5431Pre-CBS is ‘65 and earlier so no.

Your song selection is always on point. So many times I think "that is undoubtedly the exact instrument they used on the recording"!
Have you guys changed how you record the sound of the amps or is this bass just that amazing sounding?
That sounds more like a Vintage P-Bass, Sting should buy this one.

Cool especially with the lollipop tuners! Definitely early 1968.
Thank you mark, for comforting your fellow tribe fans in the wake of this loss, with kind words and monster tone
You're not a bass player and you give some of the best bass reviews. Thanks
Thank's Mark!!

Lovely guitar nice flats and huge riffs you are pretty capable of working with guitars
The Pick Sound is insane.
I found this channel yesterday. Congratulations, it's pretty entertaining. I hope you get a lot more subs. You deserve at least 250K.
Sweet Emotion - Aerosmith, Another One Bites The Dust - Queen. The Tribe looses the Series for the third time. Oh well, here we go again....
BALANCED lol at first I thought the first tune was Peaches
I have a 69 Tele Bass. it rocks
More basses! Let's keep them pre-CBS though ;)
Brian Neal but man the cbs basses sounds great IMO. Ive noticed on all these old cbs bases, they sound really thumpy and dead. I love em. Played a 79 and it sounded great as well

It sounds so.......TUBBY! I love it!
My YOB. Beautiful!
What was the first song that Mark played? I know that the second one was obviously 'Another One Bites The Dust' by Queen.
sweet emotion. aerosmith.
Usually you tune the G up to A to play Sweet Emotion so it sounds a bit more resonant through using the A opened.
Sweet Emotion by Aerosmith
Sweet Emotion - Aerosmith
Uhh.... No, the second one was "Another One Rides the Bus" by Weird Al
I'm pretty sure that Dusty Hill from ZZ Top played one of these, but it does sound really cool
yes Dusty does play a Tele bass; I know he plays a couple of different basses though
+musicman8942 Yeah I know, I saw them live about 2 years ago but I think he's like most associated with it or something
Magnificent. I have one, i want more.
Realy sweet.
you're the only person I have heard say they didn't want the cubs to win and I'm in NY!
NICE THUD WITH THE FINGERS - COOL BASS - ME LIKE

I love how he says that he's not a bass player after shredding on a bass
Cool vid.
Any dead spot on the G string?
Mark, Thanks so much for finally doing the Bass that I've been requesting, the Telecaster Bass.

‘72 version started the Seth Lover designed wide range humbucker pickup.
I want it. TONE MONSTER
I'd like to see more hollowbody electric guitars and I'd like to hear some jazz licks.

Still for sale?
Lollipop tuners 😍

what is that red guitar to the left of Mark on the bottom row
Vox Bill Wyman signature bass
what is the teardrop shaped guitar behind him to the left next to the hofner?

let the cubs enjoy their win, after all it's looking like 2124 before their next one
Anyone know the name of the riff he played with the pick? That is a tight riff!
I know you asked the question 5 years ago but I just saw this video just now, it's the beginning of Aerosmith, Sweet Emotion, killer bass by the way.

I thought he said Cavs came back into a 3-1 lead against the Warriors LMAO
He sure fills out those t-shirts--get to the gym!!
I expected a real Tele shaped bass
Mandarin squier made one like that a while ago. I wish fender made one
Resting your thumb below the strings makes it kind of hard to play doesn't it? I guess bass players back in the day had some awesome chops.
The thumb rest placed in that position was not for the thumb but for the other 4 fingers and you played with only your thumb, the opposite of it was placed above the strings. very old school.
mac163 Mark Agnezi clearly says in the video that it's a thumb rest
were people back in the day THAT shitty at bass they played with their thumb? jesus...
No just slower tempos, not like todays Music. think Rhythm and Blues, old Country etc.
mac163 yeah man people from that era were so incredibly untalented at playing their instruments. Just listen to guitarists today they fucking SHIT on everything, before van halen came out and changed the guitar game. I miss Beethoven who would actually utilize arpeggios and proper techniques
WHAT, no reverb?
(* unsuscribes *)
Mark sounded disappointed when he said no reverb
I thought for sure you were going to do some sting/police
Sounds like this thing was loaded up with flats.
You should become a bass player, it doesn't pay very well though.

You constantly wiping your nose is distracting. I hope it's just a cold . . . .I guess that's what happens when you go skiing.
Can we stop with the Basses?
why??
Rodney Harris I'm pretty sure Bass players have as much interest in these videos and vintage instruments as anyone else!
wow, that's beautiful
